OT- NFL/Lions Open Thread

Submitted by MGoBeer on

The board seems pretty slow today so I was hoping we could have an all encompassing NFL games thread. If not it can solely be devoted to Lions-Raiders at 4. Hopefully we pull out another win on our way to a playoff berth.
Right now the Chiefs are beating the undefeated Packers 6-0 in the third quarter. If GB loses this game, there is a pretty good chance they rest starters against the Lions in week 17.
Bears are beating Seattle 14-7, about to start the second half.
A certain heavily-covered game should be on CBS in most markets, starting at 4:15. Please discuss it in a reasonable way. No reason to bring up anything but on-field play. Please prove we can have nice things.
Who's watching football today?

The only thing that's big for the lions at this point is waking the f up and keeping the flags off the field.

EDIT* Literally 5 seconds after I posted this we got our second horse collar in 3 plays and 3rd flag in 3 plays. followed by a TD. I'm embarrassed of this team at this point.

I'm happy with the overall direction of the organization.  However the entire staff needs to deal with the penalty/dirty play problem.  I realize there at a lot of young players on the team and they haven't had time to gel as a unit, but this needs to get corrected.

I didn't pay much attention earlier in the season, but are the Patriots' defensive problems because they didn't start out with great players or the huge number of injuries they have had.  Considering they probably have 10+ draft picks this year, they should be able to rebulid with some young defensive players this year.

Times like this, I hate not living in Mich anymore...can only follow the Lions on gamecast, and have to hear the media slurping of Tebow live (though admittingly it hasn't been so bad this game

Why the hell did Schwartz not challenge the spot on the Smith carry on 3rd and inches?  He was laying on top of the pile and held the ball out forward--before touching the ground--and thereby having enough forward progress for the first down.  And the mark on the Burleson catch in the previous play was laughable.

I think the larger issue is: Burn down this offensive line and start over.  This is why, for example, I never get the love for Raiola.  He's an OK pass-blocker but neither he nor anyone else on that line can move tissue paper aside in the running game.  Except for Cherilus, who will get called for a holding penalty should he ever succeed.

Burleson's drop, Stafford's overthrow and subsequent fumble...this team is a year away. This is like watching Denard last year. Good QB, but too many costly mistakes at the wrong time.
