OT: MSU +81.5 on FanDuel
PSA that FanDuel is running what I assume is a customer acquisition promotion but is available to existing users. They have the line on the MSU/UCLA game at MSU +81.5 and rising. It pays out at -110 with a max bet of $50. Unless I missed the news that MSU has a massive COVID outbreak, it’s essentially free money.
This was already posted but I'll go ahead and say free money can be posted twice
Not enough people bought in at +31.5 so they had to make it more obvious?
Other way around...the more ppl buy in the higher the spread goes to give more money away. Think drug dealer giving the first taste for free...
Say what now?
I don't like it. Gonna do a teaser and get em at +86.5. Then I'll feel safe
Everybody gets the final spread independent of when they opted in. Not that +31.5 isn't enough. Wouldn't it be legendary if the spread ended up MSU +110 and MSU lost 111-0. One in a trillion, I know.
Knowing Izzo he will be down 80 at half but somehow cover.
Knowing Izzo he will be down 160 at half but somehow cover.
That’s how they get ya

I've done this twice on Fan Duel. They had the same promotion for the Michigan/Wisconsin game. I just withdraw the money as soon as possible. Free money. They're not getting me. It's a no-brainer to take free money.

The free money part?
I knew this drug dealer in high school...
I’m not sure why this message board continues to advertise for all of these betting sites. As if we don’t see and hear the 30 commercials daily. We get it, they are giving you the first hit for free.
March 17th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
Because this is independent of the commercials. They do not advertise these 'specials' in their commercials. I do not check fanduel or draftkings daily, so i appreciate people on this board posting every time their is a 'free money' bet, which seems every 2 or 3 weeks.

So the free money bets are not just for 1st time users?
March 17th, 2021 at 12:23 PM ^
I don't get why you would click on the thread title if this is actually how you feel...
I really don’t get it. I can understand these promotions for first time people to get them to download the app etc, thinking then they will continue the betting after, but why do they do this?
When does it finally settle on what we are getting for a spread? I don’t like not knowing...
Whatever the spread is at the time of you placing the bet is what you're getting for the spread. Regardless of how the spread changes your bet stays at exactly what it was at when you place it.
March 16th, 2021 at 10:12 PM ^
With these promos everyone gets the final spread, regardless of what it was when each person opts in.

100% wrong, but nice effort.
You just explained why they do it then asked why they do it.

Life is so confusing
March 16th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
No because it’s available to everyone not jjst new members.
March 16th, 2021 at 10:44 PM ^
Why do they do this? Because I'm sure their data shows that the more people they get to download and use the app, the more money they end up making over time. Money is almost always the answer.
March 17th, 2021 at 12:53 AM ^
He's asking why they do it for people who already have the app (existing users)?
March 17th, 2021 at 12:02 PM ^
Basically still the same answer. They are getting users to engage and use their app. I'm sure their data indicates that doing these promos leads to more revenue and bets over time. Sure, some of us will just take the free money and leave. Enough people won't. Personally I think they are trying a form or marketing/advertising where people are telling friends about these free money bets. They are just spending the money they might be on commercials. Probably more effectively too.
Everyone who bets gets the final number and it will only keep going up for this promotion. As of this morning it's at +88.5.
The reason they offer these promos to existing users as well as new users is to keep their userbase engaged in their product. I get bombarded with emails, ads, commercials on tv to sign up with different books. Fanduel wants you to keep betting with them so they offer promos that everyone can get in on.

DraftKings did something similar with an NBA game. They set the over/under per their normal algorithm and then for every 1,000 bets on the over they reduced the number by a point. It took about 4 days before the over/under number was 0.5. It gives you a little free money but it's restricted before you can pull it out. I think DraftKings requires you to bet 10X the amount won with promos before you can cash it out.
March 16th, 2021 at 10:43 PM ^
Incorrect. DraftKings did a "Hammer The Over" promotion on a Lakers game where the Over/Under went down to 0 points aka you automatically win. You did not need to bet anymore to withdraw it. I think you may be confusing that promo with a deposit match type of promo.
March 16th, 2021 at 10:48 PM ^
I'm sure you're right. I thought I read in the rules that any promo win had to be re-bet 10X.
March 16th, 2021 at 11:04 PM ^
You can pull the money out immediately. I already did this with the last "Spread the Love" promo.
March 17th, 2021 at 12:33 AM ^
The promo only works if you're in the State of Michigan. I got burned by that on the Michigan/Wisconsin promo when I tried to create a fanduel account in a state that does not allow online sports betting. I just cancelled my account and got my money back, but not until after my credit card company charged me a fee for purchasing money on a betting site. Caveat Emptor.
This is incorrect. I did it in Colorado. Last time you had to be in MI, but not this time.
March 17th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
Maybe, but you at least have to be in a state that allows online sports betting. Fan duel requires you to allow it to check your location through your browser. My state does not allow it.
March 17th, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
Well, I mean...yes, it has to be legal where you do it
March 17th, 2021 at 12:39 AM ^
Basic new user acquisition and retention play. They do all the analytics and this obviously ends up profitable for the company. For those with incredible discipline, enjoy the $50. For the rest, 95%+ will end up losing $
That's on those who give the money back then. I immediately withdraw it to my bank account. Over 2 promotions, that's $91.10 of free money.
March 17th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
Still not sure why all of the haters are abound. This has been my experience as well. In fact, I put the $50 in for the first time with the Michigan game and took my $45 winnings. I still have that same $50 sitting there, and had decided to leave it until the season ended or use it if another one of these popped up. Well, here we are
Neither do I. I understand that they're trying to hook people, but they're not hooking me and I'm up over $600 on the various sportsbook sites (the money is already in my bank account). I have more than enough money to pay for my UM season football tickets this year assuming fans are allowed (I have 2 seats which I split with my dad).

It was previously posted, but thanks for posting. I personally appreciate these posts because i do not check fanduel or draftkings apps/odds daily. And free money is always welcome.
How did they end up? Did they win? Did they cover?
