The Cowboys get a first round player as an undrafted free agent.  The rich get richer.

Link to his story, for those who forget.  He was questioned by police after his pregnant ex-girlfriend was shot to death before the draft.  He has since been cleared.

No drafted replacement for Murray but they are going to have the best OL in the league next season.  Romo will have more time to find Witten and Bryant and they just need some dude to run 5 yards thru a gaping hole every now and again.

I give him credit for being consistent on this. He does not really care if players they sign had off the field problems and it seems as though Cowboys fans don't care either.  It allows him to get talent on the cheap and if their issues become too big a distraction then they can always be cut.

People may disagree about that, but I can't say I would hate that philospohy if I were a Cowboys fan.

(btw- I am distinguishing between pro and college athletes with regard to character issues.  To me there are many more reasons to be concerned about character in college athletes)

I hesitate to lump La'el Collins in with players who have had off the field problems. He was interviewed by police for obvious reasons, and police have said he is not a suspect. From my perspective, the Cowboys benefit by being the only team to treat Collins as innocent until proven guilty. Hell, "innocent" isn't even the correct term, he hasn't and probably won't be charged with anything.

that the Cowboys have upgraded their D to go along with a pretty potent O. Now add another 1st round OT to their already stacked OL, and the Super Bowl isn't that much of a reach. Let's not forget they were a BS no catch call away from making the conference final last year.

Romo would have gaudy stats but always have a turnover or bonehead play in crunchtime. This past season he the benefit of a great ground game that opened up his play action passing game. Romo didn't have to gamble as much. If the running game is truly plug and play then Dallas will make some noise. The one thing no one disputes about Tony is his toughness.

a 102.2 4th quarter QB rating all time (2nd only to Rodgers), and has 14 game winning drives and 11 4th quarter comebacks over the last 3 years.  Yes he has also made some mistakes, but to say he "isn't cluch" is a narrative that simply isn't true.

anyone said he wasn't clutch, but for some reason Romo cannot get over the hump. He could very well end up being the Dan Marino of this generation. Nobody will argue that the guy has serious skill, just can't seem to win in the playoffs...can't argue that. It's science.

Klewtv is your source that he's been cleared. I haven't heard any mainstream media say he has been cleared.  I saw he wasn't the father of the child.   I didn't say I hope he committed the murder, but I hope the Cowboys do not benefit from the situation.

"Collins is currently working to clear his name in a Louisiana police investigation into the murder of Brittany Mills. Collins met with Baton Rouge police Monday and is not considered a suspect. Mills, 29, was pregnant at the time of her death and had a previous relationship with the LSU star. Rapoport reported on Wednesday that test results showed Collins is not the father of the baby who died in Baton Rouge, per a source informed of the results. The legal situation delayed Collins' entry into the NFL. "

I wonder if he has any legal recourse, though I don't know from who, maybe the police department.  It just seems like since he wasn't a suspect they could have kept this a little quieter and just questioned him without anyone knowing.  If I were him I'd be pissed and looking to find some way to get back the money I lost for no reason

I would think he could sue the NFL because they wouldn't let him remove himself from the draft to get this sorted out.  Unfortunately, it's very difficult to sue your multibillion dolar employer when they are the only company you can work for.  Not letting him out of the draft potentially cost him millions in first round guarantees.

Not withstanding the damage to his reputation in the court of public opinion this actually worked out to his benefit it would seem.  Instead of being placed on a team with little or no recourse HE got to select where he will play next year and I dont believe (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) there are any restrictions on his salary other than those imposed by the salary cap.
