OT: Kansas getting killed by VCU
over half the game left. can vcu stay hot?
Completely cold. And Kansas would have to start hitting shots at a high rate, which they're doing the opposite of.
A VCU-Butler matchup in the Final Four would be ridiculous.
Butler-U-Conn would be better, so they can meet in the title game.
I'd rather have VCU in the title game though since Butler already had their chance to make history.
But it does have the unfortunate "feel" of the Boise-TCU segregation game. (Though no one "made" this happen).
At the half.
How do PROGRAMS continually choke?
Lot of time left. I wouldn't be surprised if KU came all the way back. Getting it down to 14 was big.
In the Tourney was 22 by Duke in 2001, vs. Maryland. So this would be top 5, at least. I won't hold my breath.
We are talking about a #1 seed against a #11 seed. It wouldn't surprise me to see the #1 seed take over.
It's just my Bracket imploding talking.
Second round of the NCAA tourney. Michigan, lead by the Fab Five, was down 19 to UCLA and came back to win in OT.
Everyone remembers the UNC game, but Michigan almost suffered a huge upset in the first weekend.
I know the Fab Five. The Fab Five were friends of mine. Kansas, sir, is no Fab Five.
Kansas won a conference championship.
But I wasn't trying to compare 2011 Kansas to 1993 Michigan. It seemed to be a fitting response to your comment.
Won't sniff the Final Four.
Right over his head.
Crazy game. Kansas had 8 turnovers 10 minutes into the first half. Foul trouble all over the place as well. There was one possession on VCU's end where Kansas missed a shot and then missed two free throws--twice!--before VCU finally got possession back. Kansas looks sloppy, and I bet they underestimated VCU's strength.
Prediction: VCU wins a close one by 10 or less.
I love it!
why college basketball postseason is better than football. Because ALL teams at least have a path to the title.
This argument keeps getting stronger every year. How long can the BCS and the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowls of the world keep their finger in the dike?
But the counterargument is that March Madness seriously waters down the regular season, which is undeniable. I support a limited playoff in football. If you make it a huge free-for-all (like 16+ teams), you lessen the importance of the regular season.
If I were in charge of things, I'd get rid of the conference title games and go straight from the regular season to an eight-team playoff. Have a selection committee figure out whom the best eight teams are.
Til you're the team that had the great year, and you get upset on one bad day by a team that goes on and loses their next game. In '97, if Michigan had to play 6 more games after OSU, not sure how thrilling it would have been.
Halftime deficit ever.
Going gets tough when those threes stop raining. Kansas coming on hot, nearly killing the lead in the first quarter of this half.
Kansas gonna win. VCU shaken and gone.
VCU is going to have to play lights out in the second half. Kansas looks good and the refs look...well, like college basketball refs. Ha on that "not a shooting foul" BS.
always plays down to their competition.
They are mounting a comeback as we speak.
box scores correctly, it actually appears that Kansas usually wins by a lot when they win, which is frequently.
People are tempting the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing.
The jinx didn't work.
Has VCU weathered the storm? They've got it back up to nine.
Kansas can't hit a three to save their lives.
edit: or a free throw
When did announcers start calling inside players "bigs"? Can't go a minute in this game without hearing it.
But you can let it get THAT bad and hope to come back. There's a chance, but when the hole's that deep, it's a long climb.
Man, Michigan is capable of getting to the Final Four next year, we can beat any of these teams. Not saying were getting to FF but damn, why not?
Go VCU
The teams we'd have to fear are the Butlers and VCUs.
I just hope we don't run into Rocko Holmes again, the man is lethal
Bye Kansas we'll see ya
And yet you have a huge height advantage. Strategy Problem?
No one in today's college basketball can resist the 3-point line's sweet siren song.
I saw recently that in the '93 semifinal against Kentucky, we shot 0-4 from 3. It's amazing to think in a game that went to overtime, we only attempted four from downtown (and missed them all!) and won.
We did not make many 10 footers either. It was inside or nothing.
That's not true. In fact, almost all of the Fab Five had a pretty good shooting touch. Juwan, for instance, was money from the foul line extended. They just didn't shoot that many threes. They mostly left that to Pelinka and Voskuil. Back then the three was still something of an exotic novelty.
Are the voices of a million brackets crying out, and then being suddenly silenced.
That's a space station!
They looked fine until this game, I picked them to win it all.
edit: they also has the easiest road to the final four, holy crap their fans must be sick
Illinois, not so much.
If you remind me.

The hard part will be picking which team to upset them. How the hell did self win that title a few years back? Did they not play anyone more than 2 seeds lower than his team?
i said that last year...and still picked them this year
Games like this are why this is the best sporting event in the U. S.
As a favorite.
