OT: Kansas and NC State get pointed at in Adidas scandal

Submitted by Ihatebux on

Looks like Kansas is a "victim" of the Adidas scandal.  Wow, quite the victim of having a player's parents getting paid $100k and NC State coach was flat out given the money to pay players.   Once again, God bless Beilien.

The indictment also alleges that Gatto and others conspired in 2015 to funnel approximately $40,000 from Adidas to the father of a player who was "widely considered the top high school recruit in the state of North Carolina and who had played for an [Adidas-sponsored] AAU team" to ensure that he signed with the Wolfpack and signed an apparel deal with Adidas once he turned pro.

I see Adidas has been making strides in its attempt to implement total vertical integration of its own sponsorships, starting at the AAU level. Bold indeed.

And what's amazing is that this is basically one of a number of agencies involved with this behavior.  So for every major program caught by this sting, there are probably a half-dozen others breathing a momentary sigh of relief.

Correct and being rational, I’m tired of the slow drip, blow the roof off this shit. NCAA turns a blind eye to this shit, but letting kids sell their autograph, or a college kid smoking pot, or stretching for 45 fucking extra minutes is over the line.....? I want to see that entity burn.....

The Kansas player #2 is likely De Sousa which is interesting because the school that seemingly finished second to Kansas was Maryland who was already slightly implicated with Diamond Stone so there is some potential big ten interest there. Though MD fans might be thankful it it gets Turgeon fired.

Yup, I said at the beginning of this I would be shocked to see Maryland get through this cleanly due to their relationship with Under Armour. I thought they were more likely to be paying guys than MSU. I would say Minnesota too because of Pitino, but they mostly get transfers so idk.

Maryland actually wins a lot. Maybe not in football... but their womens bball team is elite and i think they are the defending champs (nationally) in at least 3 sports.... mens and womens lacrosse and field hockey i believe (winning it over UM). If we're just talking basketball, they have the most recent title of any b1g team (2002).

Lacrosse, rowing, table tennis, etc.... Yeah, those are the sports that are corrupting college athletics. The money coming from revenue sports are the ones that get schools apparel contracts, and those are the sports that corrupt. I guess you missed my point in saying that just because a school has a deal with an apparel company based on region or alumni,(Nike - Oregon) Maryland - UA) doesn't mean they are cheating or benefiting unfairly.

Will anything actually happen with this FBI investigation? Don’t have much faith in the NCAA or the FBI. Miles Bridges can pay $40 and be good to go. Meanwhile MSU can foster a rape culture in the entire athletic department for years and Izzo and Mork will never get in trouble.
