High impact Edges are a premium in the league if you have an opportunity you have to grab an elite one if available with the first pick. Plus the DB draft class in addition to free agents are plentiful and I can almost guarantee the Lions won't be grabbing 2 CB's in the first round.

Not really. Hutch had a great year, but he's not even a top 15 DE at this point
Houston is more likely to be a flash in the pan than a superstar, based on how these things often go
The best pick for the Lions is a top tier DE, as then we have a decent chance of having not one, but TWO lethal edge players (Hutch + #6 pick)

dudes got the bend and speed to be near unblockable . Teams will have to double him to to stop him…..which will open things up for hutch, paschal, ect to feast…… I’m not saying he’s gonna be a perennial all pro but he will be either a decent starter or one of the best situational guys you could ever ask for.

Agreed. Better secondary will also make the DL better by giving them some time to actually get to the QB and/or commit more players to getting to the QB. Need to find a pair of corners. Those could come in the draft or free agency or both but that needs to be the priority this offseason.

IF we can walk away from round one with the Illinois corner and the Alabama safety, our D is instantly comparable to the Vikings and Packers (fully staffed) Ds. We still need a stud LB in FA. But being a Lions fan is way less sucky than it has been since?

Exactly and my point. The Lions will have to take a DL with that high of a pick if an elite one is available. This draft is loaded with DB's and one will be there @ 18. Okudah was a can't miss and seems he's coming around but looks silly now to bank on him with a #3 pick. These are first rounders:
- Gonzalez
- Witherspoon
- Porter
- Branch
- Cam Smith
- Ringo
Unless Brad Holmes thinks one of them is the next coming of Deion Sanders they trade down or take the DL. Plenty of teams are itching to trade up to the 6 hole hoping to grab a QB.

DL play has been good at PSU. OL play on the other hand not so good.

The previous class is already signed. In the next class, PSU only has 2 commits, neither of whom are D Linemen or list him as a primary recruiter. I did a quick scan of their targets and the only highly rated DL/Edge guy who showed up as "warm" on 247 was Brian Robinson, who we probably already lead for. I don't think this move helps us that much on the recruiting front.
