OT: Gruden's Pep Talks
Has anyone been catching these clips on ESPN. This might be the best series that ESPN has put together. I find them entertaining and informative. Everyone seemed to enjoy Gruden's contribution to Monday Night Football last season. This is just another thing he does so well. I am surprised that he is still out of coaching. I hope its his decision because any organization would be lucky to have him as their coach.
Here's the latest with C.J. Spiller:

I think they are stupid and annoying...
I also think they are stupid and annoying.
He isn't a head coach anywhere because everyone in the league realizes that he won the Superbowl with Tony Dungy's team. After winning the Superbowl he only won more than 9 games in a season once.
It ain't easy being cheesy.
So does that mean he beat himself in the Super Bowl, since the Raiders were his team?
I guess the key word is AFTER in this post but regardless the guy is a good coach and may be an even better on MNF. How good was that game btw...Brady vs. Woodson in the snowbowl...classic
Yep, everything you said is 100% spot on! insert sarcasm
Best part in my opinion was when Gruden compared Clausen to Ryan Leaf straight to Clausen face.

Also nice when Gruden called out Clausen for describing himself as "highly touted." Jimmah really came off as a douche.

Was he not "highly touted", for that matter is he not highly touted?
I know, he should refer to himself as JClaw from now on and speak in the 3rd person, I am sure that will impress people. lol

no?
they were talking about film study and workouts, how football is a job and will now occupy all his time, which Clausen was agreeing with. Gruden said thats the difference between becoming a Peyton Manning/Drew Brees or a Ryan Leaf.
Agree those are pretty stupid, although I do enjoy him on MNF.
Not to mention he has an awful taste in music. "im so excited"? Seriously?
where Gruden was giving Tebow shit for scrambling with the ball in his passing hand down around his knees. If you watched Michigan's Spring Game, Tate starts scrambling and like Tebow, carries the ball down around his knees. I believe Tate fumbled the ball on that same play. This is a bad habit that Tate must correct. If you haven't noticed this before, it will most certainly drive you nuts when you see it.
Scott Mitchell anyone?
Tate only fumbled on that ridiculously stupid pitch to the HB. there was no scramble.
I actually found it fairly entertaining.....I like watching them break down film, and Gruden throwing the QBs on the spot & having them explain their thought process on certain plays.
Given his history, if hypothetically he ever became the coach at Michigan, we'd never have to worry about having enough scholarship QBs. For a typical recruiting class of 25 guys, we'd average 7 or more QBs a year.
I have often wondered what Gruden would do in college, where he could have some direct control over his roster. Gruden's decline at Tampa Bay was predictable because they gave away too many draft picks to Oakland for him. In college, his roster would be dependent upon his own ability to recruit and he could build his team according to his own vision, and not that of a GM.
Also, in addition to being younger and more impressionable than their NFL counterparts, players only stay four to five years in college, which is enough to ensure that his "message" doesn't get old. Gruden's last few years in Tampa Bay were terrible, but he was able to keep the bottom from falling out until after he left, so he must have some talent.
College may yet prove to be the best place for Gruden, but I have a feeling that his ego may keep him from ever coaching there.
I caught a bit of the one with Tebow. He told Tebow that he was "good for mankind" or "good for humanity." At that point, Gruden was dead to me and I literally couldn't grab the remote fast enough. Its great that Tebow does good stuff and all, but enough of the media worship. I had hoped Chuckie would be better than that.
How could anyone miss them? They play them 2-3 times a day, every day.
Job, wife, three daughters = limited ESPN. Plus its hockey playoffs, so any time for ESPN gets used up by FSN Detroit or Versus.
Dude's annoying when he's calling a game that Burt's involved with, but I liked these clips because they showed each of the top prospects hanging out one on one with a guy who clearly loves teaching/talking football. A little contrived, but whatever.
Better than Skip Bayless bleating about April baseball, or yet another look at how that guy from Kentucky blew all his money and is now playing in the DR.
Gruden pep talks: Now with 200% less spit than Lou Holtz's
SportsCenter is dead to me, mostly because of series like pep talks by Jon Gruden. I can get all the info I want in about three minutes on the web.
Maybe that's why they do these types of series on tv? Seriously, they're not too long and I'd much rather see some insight and tutelage by someone with experience rather than Hannah Storm attempting to manipulate some touch screen TV that adds nothing to the show.

Agree to disagree then. I just feel like ESPN has decided to emulate the cable news networks too much. I don't care about fans posts on Twitter feeds and Facebook. I turn on a news show to get news, not editorial schlock.
However, to each his own. This isn't meant to insult you or any fan of SportsCenter. I'm happy you like the segments--overall, it's good that ESPN has viewers so it can afford to outbid Fox for the BCS.
a Lou Holth pep talk!

Maybe just because I love talking football. Listening to a coach or player breaking down game film is just very interesting to me and I just like Gruden and his straight forward/no sugar coat approach.

But not particularly informative. It was dummied down to appeal to a broader audience. In doing so it lost a lot of it's real potential.
It's like drinking lite beer - it's technically beer, but not satisfying. Kind of watered down...

to the "people see so many different things than I do" catagory. I can't get enough of these meetings that Gruden has made with the players. He gets them uncomfortable and really gets in their heads quickly. This guy knows more about football than most of us on this website combined. He is showing these kids things to work on for the rest of their lives, and they will probably think about it for years. I guess you haters would rather watch people who know nothing about football say the same tired things over and over on sportscenter...
I am reminded of sitting in a room watching George Bush in a debate and hearing a friend of mine describe him as intelligent. Some people simply live in a different universe than mine, and that's cool with me. I just don't get it.
I think he kind of berates these kids. The four QBs all looked like they really regretted signing up for the segment.
