OT: Clemson vs. OSU

Submitted by Catchafire on
Woke up earlier and was happy to remember the 31-0 beating osu suffered at the hands of Clemson and I started to wonder why exactly did such a talent rich team lead by an offensive guru fail to score a point in a game. It was also spurred by the excellent Inverted Veer Analysis article on the front page.

It seems as though good teams finally figured osu out. In reality, osu won against Michigan due to poor officiating and key mistakes by our team. We had that game. They went up against Clemson and failed hard.

Was this due to a vastly superior defensive line, the offense just sucking, JT Barret being meh?

In the aftermath, osu decided to hire Kevin Wilson who I am sure will make osu deathly frightening. What does this mean for us and how do we defend against whatever they are hatching?

Make them do what they don't want to do.

Despite the recent NFL scoreboard for OSU, here's a critical piece. They have not and will not have a QB playing in the NFL while Urban is there. Hiring Kevin Wilson does not change that. It's actually a double down on it.

The most important position on the field as seen in the super bowl and they will continue to treat it like a RB/WR who happens to take snaps. They friggin advertise their weakness to you when they walk on the field yet so many DCs refuse to believe it.

Stack the box, blitz from everywhere & anywhere, give them a constantly shifting defensive front & make that athlete catching snaps do what he absolutely hates to do. Read & react. Don't let the "brains" in the booth do his job for him. Show them nothing pre snap. Be willing to lose a couple battles early to win the war. Crush their running game early and often and be willing to maybe get burned by a lucky pass. You sometimes have to lose an early battle to win the war.

And if he stays around he'll make a serviceable WR someday. Could probably bulk up and play TE.

Besides, he was supposed to sit the bench at OSU if Urban had his way. He won't play another Cardale if he can help it. He also won't win another NC IMHO. It was Cardale ability to throw downfield that opened up the power running game for them and won their NC. Urban is so damn arrogant he won't even try to adjust his system to emulate what, by accident, was his most effective offense. He'd rather keep trying to recreate Tebow.

you need to have some luck go your way too

the difference between Michigan and Clemson's regular season this year was Iowa made their kick and NC State missed theirs

we are on the level to compete with anyone - and once we fill in the holes the 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes have given us we'll be better

L at Iowa by one on a field goal as time expired

L at Ohio State by three on a TD on the last play of 2OT

L to Florida State in Miami by one on a TD with 0:30-ish left

Outside of Alabama (kinda joking, but not really), nobody wins a National Championship without some complete bullshit luck, at some point of the season, falling in their favor.

And it may be my maize-colored glasses, but the most frustrating part of UM's 2016 season was that every single "We really need this play/call/whatev." broke the other way.

Shitty.

Don Brown > Kevin Wilson Don Brown > Urban Meyer Don Brown is the best defensive coach in the country, I have no doubt about it.

I watched some draft coverage this year. When Elflein was picked, one of his highlights was blocking Ryan Glasgow. It was the play where he grabbed Glasgow's facemask. No penalty was called.

When Glasgow was drafted, I'm not kidding, they showed the same exact play.

Let's talk about a bowl game that doesn't involve us going on almost 6 months ago... I'm bound to get negged bringing this s up over and over...I just hate to be a part of a hypocritical fan base. Can we just say we are as obsessed with them as they are with us?

Hate to break this to you, chief, but they are our rival.  discussions about rivals are kinda the heart of those blog (and the OSU blogs, for the same reason).  Once you've been here for a week or so, you will start to see that.

Of course, now you will claim that you are living in my head rent-free.  Whatever.
