OT: The best _________ you ever saw live

Submitted by JeepinBen on

I figured I'd ask the board for their bragging/lucky break/amazing viewing experiences. Who was the best ______ you've ever seen live? Many with lucky timing can say they saw Tom Brady when he was in college, the best NFL QB. Who was the best pitcher you ever saw at an MLB game? Who saw Desmond return a punt? What about the best basketball player you've seen? In obvious answers, the best 5'7" goalie we've ever seen was tiny Jesus. Any other GOATs you've been lucky enough to have tickets to? Tales you'll tell the grandkids?

I'm going to go with Michigan vs. Maine at Yost in 2003.  The game is zero zero and we score on a break away, go on to win 2-1.

In 2002 and 2003 Yost hosted playoff games and I have never felt anything as electric (I was at 97 OSU as well).

People don't believe me but the anxiety of that maine game and the relief when we scored on a breakaway (right in front of me by the way) was the most exhilarating thing I have ever seen live...

now, woodson taking it to the house was pretty cool too.

Back in '92 a friend of mine got us court side seats to a Rockets game when the Bulls came to town. He was a huge Bulls fan. It was incredible getting to watch Jordan in his prime and Olajuwon coming into his, especially up close. As for the game it went back and forth throughout and the Rockets had a 105-102 lead with seconds left. The Bulls had the ball and we both thought Hodges would take the last shot since he had been shooting well including 2 clutch late 3's to keep them close. He did get the ball but kicked it to Jordan in the corner and as he rose to take the shot Olajuwon stepped out and blocked his shot (his 8th block of the game) to preserve the win for my Rockets. I'll never forget that game.

My family are Cubs fans but they were out of town for Spring Break 1984. So we decided to catch a couple games at Old Comiskey. First game we froze our asses off sitting in the right field bleachers in front of some drunk Sox fans who introduced me to some new words at age 13. Also happened to be Jack Morris's no-hitter.

AC/DC live at Joe Louis Arena. I was in high school. They fired those cannons so much that my ears were ringing for a week. Best concert and band I've ever seen live.

This doesnt entirely fit but it is one of my best ever moments

Last year my dad and I flew from Oregon to Boston to see the Seattle Mariners play at Fenway.  It has always been a dream to visit all of the ballparks and the Red Sox put together a package that included hotel, authentic jersey, on field tour, and seats on the Green Monster.

Neither one of us realized that the game we attended was on Father's Day until we were standing on the warning track in front of the manual score board getting our picture taken with the date written out above us.  The game was nothing special and the Mariners lost, but being at Fenway with my dad on Father's Day was a best ever moment that will be hard to beat.

1989 Seattle Kingdome - Rumeal sinks two free throws to win the National Championship. The semi final game versus Illinois was even better ( I almost passed out from emotional overload) but the Hollywood ending of the NC game was incredible.

Best concert : The Neville Brothers at Tipitina's during Mardi Gras. The concert didn't start until 1:30 AM. Aaron Neville singing Amazing Grace was a religious experience. John Goodman, Timothy Hutton, Ed Bradley, and many celebs sprinkled in a small bar the size of Second Chance.

Greatest thing I've seen was a Granderson HR to left against the Reds in the bottom of the 9th to tie it. Not sure what year. We won on a walk off single in extras. We even had crappy 3rd deck seats at Comerica but I still remember my amazement as a kid that I just saw something so crazy.

1 - Michigan Moment - 1991 OSU/Michigan Game. We were in the opposite endzone and watched the hole open up for Desmond. Didn't know about the iconic pose that followed until I got home.

2 - All-time Moment - Game 6 of the 1993 World Series. Joe Carter. Walk-Off.

1998 - Rose Bowl sat on the 50 yard line 3 rows from Desmond Howard. Best moment of my sports life. Saw the Nat Champ game in person

World Cup - Italy vs Brazil. Watched Baggio miss the crossbar in OT and I was crushed.

World Cup - Columbia guys kicks it into his own goal. If you look hard enough I am standing right behind the goal as I was a Account Exec. w M&M Mars and they were the official sponsor.

Rose Bowl Michigan vs Texas - I swear Vince Young looked right at me when he scores that last TD.

Citrus Bowl 2016 - Flew from Cali w my 14 yr old son to Orlando to watch Michigan stomp Florida. It was my son's first game and our first football game together.

I will never forget any of those games in person.

Was at Soldier Field in '77 when Walter Payton set the single game rushing record of 275 yards against a very solid Vikings defense, erasing O.J.'s mark of 273 from the previous season.
