Not a fan, and I don't know any Tigers fans who would be happy about this. At least it makes that blowhard Jeff Moss look stupid for reporting his firing was a done deal.

He made several poor game management decisions this year that most little league coaches teaching their kids the basics would have made. No, the manager can't get out there and play. But, he can put his team in the best possible position to win... and he didn't always do that.

That can be said about any manager because of how little impact they have. At the end of the day, Ausmus shouldn't have even been here this season. Pulling Sanchez for Chamberlain in Game 2 of the ALDS last year was one of the most criminally bad coaching decisions I have ever seen in any sport and it would not have been irrational to fire him for it.

manager if you have a young team with low expectations that you are developing for the future, as Ausmus himself is still learning to manage. He is not a fit for a team with huge money invested in aging players. This team needs a guy with real experience to help them win now. There aren't really any exciting names out there to replace Ausmus, but there are guys who have much more coaching experience under their belt and have a better feel for managing a team and games. I really want Ausmus to be successful, and I think he could be a solid big league manager in time, but I just don't feel the Tigers can wait around on him. It makes me wonder if Avila is planning a big roster shakeup this offseason to begin his reign as GM.

Don't look now, but this is an already young team. Cabrera, Victor, Kinsler, Verlander and Sanchez are the only guys over 30 next year, and the hitters don't look like they're slowing down much . Pitchers are weird, who knows what JV will do, but his recent starts are encouraging. The majority of the everyday players are 28 and under: JDM, Castellanos, Iglesias, McCann, and Gose. The only hole is LF, which I expect to be filled through FA. For pitching next year we have Norris, Boyd, Lobstein, and Greene to fill two spots. I'm assuming we'll sign someone, there are many good FA SP on the market this year.

I'm not in love with Ausmus, but the argument that the team is aging isn't really true outside of a few (albeit key) players. This year was frustrating but the trade deadline moves really helped set us up for the future. DD/AA set us up to reload on the fly with minimal time developing (read: really sucking).

Looking forward. Why would I by season tickets to the Tigers for next season. What will have been improved from the last place that we are now?

LAST PLACE IN THE CENTRAL! Can anyone tell me why we won't be last place again?

Avila maybe kicked the tires on a few potential alternatives and decided none were better than Ausmus. Firing a coach without a viable alternative is the sign of bad management and leads to things like Hoke.
