NCAA Football Oversight Committee to Put Satellite Camps "on top of their list"

Submitted by alum96 on

I figured this loophole might only last 3-4 years but it might be even shorter than that.  Anyhow, it's getting serious attention it seems.

The entire idea of visiting a satellite camp comes from taking advantage of an NCAA loophole that prohibits schools from hosting football camps more than 50 miles away from its campus. However, the rule says nothing about attending camps as guests.

But now, per USA Today, the NCAA's football oversight committee will put the examination of these camps and whether or not they should be allowed -- or shut down -- in the future at the top of their list.

NCAA president Mark Emmert addressed satellite camps one day after Alabama coach Nick Saban and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney came out against the idea of schools attending camps in other areas of the country.

...

Emmert on satellite camps: FB oversight committee will have topic "on the top of their list... I think they have to address it nationally."

I would put intrinsicly parallel task integrated systems at the top of my list. The NCAA has failed to progressively disintermediate distributed experiences in recent years.

We just told the NCAA to go fuck themselves, and refused to comply, since college football is just a feeder system for the NFL maybe we could take down the entire NCAA system.

These fuckers can over sign all they want and fuck these kids over and dump there scholarship. But have another conference do a satellite camp and the SEC can't do the same thing they cry foul and butch to the NCAA. Insinuate the SEC its sick how they treat there kids.

The list of people negatively impacted by these camps is: Saban.

On the list of legitimate problems the NCAA has, there should be no surprise that THIS issue hits the top of the list. Because the NCAA is entirely peopled with idiots.

How about - OVERSIGNING AND SCREWING KIDS OVER!!!!  The NCAA is a crock of shit.  They better not touch this.

Something that benefits kids will be at the top of the oversight committee's agenda ofr removing.

Something that harms kids like oversigning will be ignored.

NCAA playing favorites... how predictable. When the SEC whines, the NCAA listens. How much you want to bet nothing would even be "looked" at if this was a certain segment of the NCAA's favorites participating in camps?

I would love to tell the NCAA that they can look into the camps as soon as they look into oversigning, otherwise, get the fuck out.

I hope in a few of years we run into Alabama again.  I would love to see Harbaugh run the score up on Saban.

At the same time, it says a lot about what these coaches are thinking (or worrying) in terms of what is sitting to their north.

How do college coaches hosting camps, regardless of location, hurt the players? Kids are getting coached and encouraged to go to college; isn't that the idea in the first place? Why is this a bad thing?

I don’t blame UM for the camps but it is an easy thing to shut down. Oversigning is more complex. The lack of rules allowed the SEC to do it blatantly but with roster management a Big Ten school can still acheive almost the same effect. With a max of 25 players per class that allows for a lot of cuts to be made to ensure you are below 88 on signing day. OSU is the only one that seems to be taking advantage so far.....

The NCAA a legalized criminal organization. They get tax exempt status. They have a million unjustified restrictions on athletes. What a joke. There's not a shred of integrity to be found. They fucked over Mitch McGary, changing the rules immediately following that case.

I don't see why any school cannot set up camps anywhere. Coaches recruit nationally, and this would just be an extension of that. It would be good for the players so how would it be bad for the sport?

Harbaugh is just pushing these fat cats out of their comfort zone. Make the coaches earn it...

I wonder how the B1G is going to handle this...will they line up behind Harbaugh, Franklin and others or will they give in to the SEC and let this go quietly.
