Michigan-MSU on 10/29 will likely NOT be a Noon game

Submitted by Squad16 on October 15th, 2022 at 1:01 PM

Ohio State @ Penn State on 10/29 was just selected as the Big Noon kickoff on Fox, so it seems we FINALLY will have a game that doesn't start at Noon when we host the Spartans at the end of the month.

The other three Big Ten games that week are Northwestern @ Iowa, Rutgers @ Minnesota and Illinois @ Nebraska, so it seems almost certain that MSU @ UM will be the #2 TV pick so we should be on ABC/ESPN networks, as they alternate picks with Fox. It would be highly unlikely for them to put us against the OSU-PSU game, but it is not impossible I suppose.

Will have to wait until Monday to see the exact game time.

Thank you for posting.  Bracing myself.  Coming with family to A2 for game and am hoping for a late afternoon game now.  Figured incorrectly maize out vs. PSU would have been the night game when booking trip.

MSU's record makes it less attractive for prime time, but it still could be an ABC prime timer. Keep an eye on Notre Dame. They play Syracuse that day and that might be more attractive for ABC at 7:30. If so, we likely get a late afternoon slot.

Totally disagree that it has nothing to do with MSU.  When both teams are good, like last year, it's a game of national interest that draws fans that aren't Michigan or MSU fans.

That won't be the case this year.

Yes, Michigan draws views, and yes, we will be the first B1G game that ESPN/ABC picks but the views they'll get for this game are people that will watch the game no matter when it is.

So they might feel they'll optimize their total viewership by putting Michigan/MSU at 330 and ND-Syracuse at 8 (because they might feel more unaffiliated fans will watch the ND game if it's at night).

AAPD needs to prepare indeed.

In 2004, I lived west of Main Street, near the stadium.

The 2004 Devil's Night triple-OT game started at 3:30 ET, ended well after 8pm in the dark.

Woke up the next morning to find the tires on my car slashed, along with all the others on my street.

Fucking couch-burning, tire-slashing Sparty scum.

Wish the game was at noon.

Not because of any “It’s what Bo would’ve wanted, get off my lawn” nonsense. But for a game like this where I expect MSU bush league shenanigans and being the better team “on paper” to not matter, I’d rather just get it out of the way first thing. I don’t want to wait all day to sit through a slog of a game.

I know Michigan should win. I know my eyeballs say Michigan should crush these guys. But I also know that empirical evidence seems to mean jackshit in this rivalry. Whatever MSU has left in the tank, they’re pouring it all into this game. They know their season is over and this is the only goal they have left to achieve. This is going to be a painful game to watch, folks.

I don’t want a stay of execution. Either tell me I’m a free man and let me go, or just send me to the guillotine now and let’s get this over with. Don’t make me wait all night to know my fate.
