META: So the front page changed and...
It seems that the front page got an update. Took me a few visits to realize it had happened and that I was missing the newest post each time.
I don't know that it actually made anything worse, but I'm pretty sure it didn't really make anything better.
Yay change!
Yes. More clutter on the front page. But at least points haven't changed: They still don't work.
Upvoted. Meaninglessly.
Redesign was a complete disaster.
It's not a change--it's a temporary attempt to cover up an area we're trying to fix.
And now it's back to the old look.
Which makes me correct my earlier take. The original somehow looks worse.
I'm assuming all of the blank space on the sides, which then messes up the proportions of those boxes, is because the site was designed to fill mobile device screens, but not this 24" widescreen I'm looking at. Is that the issue?
I don't know, but Flo from Progressive is to the right here, she keeps looking at me..I think I'd hit it, anyone else? Thoughts on Flo?
Was always more of an Erin Esurance guy myself.
My current right-column ad is promoting a rather classy men's sweater. I've often thought the ads-people think I'm a guy (macho male sports site, after all), but it has been some time since I've gotten the Russian brides. That's progress, I guess.
I remember the Russian brides. I miss those days.
Not even close. There's an issue with Drupal (the platform we run on) that locked the featured box with Rishi's podcast in place and won't let me create new boxes to replace it.
Why can't the points be fixed?
They worked for one day back in December. Isn't that good enough??
Dude, you were there when when we were putting a ton of time and effort into that this year. Do you not remember me using you as the guinea pig? The points were a module we had to write ourselves, and what happens is they come into conflict with the HEAVY security features from the server we use and from Cloudflare.
At the moment the workaround is they update every night around 2:30 a.m. They also work for new users, so people climbing up to the point where they can post articles and participate can do so. So then it's just a question of how much effort we want to put into making sure people with 5,000 points get 5,035 points.
I believe I am owed at least a thousand points for the shitposting services I provide. In good faith, I will accept a payment of 100 points a day with only 6% interest until the principal is paid. Hopefully this will help in distributing the points in a planned, timely manner, given the scarcity of point resources.
Seth: Obviously I hit a sensitive spot with my reply to Putin. Of course I remember all of the hard work you put in to fix mine and others accounts. I also remember being very thankful. Offered to buy you beers??. My sincerest apologies to everyone at MGOBLOG. Have a wonderful weekend.
GO BLUE ??
Beat dem turtles!!!
won't*
The huge blank spaces on the sides of the page have been there since the new site launched. I didn't think it had anything to do with what you're fixing now. I really hope you don't think that either.
But while we're talking about Drupal, is there any chance you could explain why you guys didn't just move away from Drupal when the redesign happened? It obviously doesn't function the way you want it to, and from what I know from the friends I have that do/did this stuff for a living, it's not like you couldn't get the functionality you want from a product that isn't Drupal.
The blank rails you notice are due to the size of your computer screen. Most laptops only see a sliver of that. This was a decision late in the process to go from a dynamic site to a fixed one, because the dynamic site was creating all sorts of weird things in bad places. It was a conservative move because we were afraid of fixing all of those issues.
Staying on Drupal was one of the main parameters. The old site was on Drupal, and moving it over to something else would have made it 10x harder. It's also the one indie thing that had a big community supporting it.
I have it on good authority that the SEC, PSU, and OSU websites cheat. Is that why theirs look better?
If only there was some sort of mobile application so that users wouldn't be exposed to all the dynamics of drupal implementations
I have bad news.
That wont work for them. Their traffic load is way too high. They need something that decouples the site from the traffic
Here's a thought: either don't read the front page or start your own blog and design it the way you prefer.
...and Leon's getting LARGER!!!
Hey Johnny, how about some coffee?
Love it
