MBB: RJ Barrett reclassifying to class of 2018 EDIT
EDIT: This is what I get from reading college basketball news on an NBA website, where there universe is focused on drafts. Someone there misinterpreted that he was reclassifying to be eligible in 2018 for the draft, when in fact he is graduating high school a year earlier than originally intended, meaning he's still a year away from college. My mistake, neg away if you like.
I'm confident we won't be runner ups this time...
Much more likely that we'll end up in third behind UK/Duke.
Oh God no, but he'll definitely have nice things to say about us. Like a woman describing a blind date she ended up not going out with again to the friend that set her up. "He has a great personality, but we just didn't "click.""
We're the nice guy that always loses out to the misunderstood bad guy or the buff dude who has a surprisingly soft heart.
Michigan is always going to lose recruits to dirty programs. As for them saying "nice things," what do you expect them to say? "I love Michigan, but they don't pay and I got a cool $200K from Kentucky?"
"He has a great personality, but he didn't spend enough money on me."
Fixed it.
I admittedly have no idea what his top schools are but I think more kids should take the Fultz approach. Go to a school where you can put up numbers and be THE guy. What do they get for joining super teams like Duke or Kentucky? Actually having to compete for minutes? Share spotlight with other talented players? Save your coach K and Cal pitches, if they were so great they would win more.
Based on reports from real basketball people this kid is on another level. He doesnt need to go to duke or kentucky. IMHO if players are 18 and good enough they should be draft eligible again.
He's reclassifying to 2018, not this season.
He'd have to have already graduated to reclassify to this year.
This is what it must feel like to be a MSU fan during football recruiting. Just think of all the truly great players we almost get.
This might be the comment of the year. Basketball recruiting rarely gets me excited, and when we do finally land a 5 star like McGary, mitigating circumstances flame out his career in a bit of a parallel to MSU with Malik McDowell. Both programs survive on making hay with "coach 'em up" candidates while the big boys feast on the top end talent.
It'd be interesting to see the data on this, but it seems to me like our basketball situation is more like "always a bridesmaid, never the bride" and MSU's football situation is more like "always a caterer at the VFW reception hall, never the bride."
MSU football never has elite out of state prospects even give them a look. It's more anologous to a school like Minnesota's BB recruiting than to ours.
...finishing in a kid's top 15?
Unless I took a really long nap after lunch..
almost football. Yes, it's hard to get the true blue chippers since we are not One and Done U. But a LOT of teams contend in March without being Kentucky or Duke etc. Beilein's a great coach and I trust we will compete with the guys he brings in.
GO BLUE!!
He will be one and done sooner? Doesn't sound like a Michigan man.
For a legit attempt to bring relevant content in the off season.
