If you ask recruits why they are interested in playing at Oregon, the ever chaning uniforms are at or near the top of the list. During their rise to power, the Ducks weren't trying to sell more merchandise, they were trying to market their program.

Michigan is among the leaders in merchandise sales and they rarely wear alternates. I'm guessing any additional sales these alternates generate will be marginal at best. It is a recruiting tool.

I'll withhold my opinion until I see how they look on the field. I am guessing I will not like them. However, I suppose having unusual uniformZ for one game is OK with me if it helps with recruiting (which I think it does).

HOWEVER, if they messed with the helmet at all, I (and I suspect 95% of my fellow alumni) would have  a big problem with that.

Wish TV's had a black and white mode so I wouldnt go blind watching this game. The two sets of uniforms are going to look ridiculous together. There will be more Twitter banter about the uniforms than the game itself. I pray we blow them out.

As much as it hurts me to say it I think Notre Dame knocked it out of the park with this years throwback uniforms, right down to the cleats would it be wrong to steal their idea instead of these all maize unis

Nothing personal, because you're about the 7,000th person to make this hilarious comparison.  But let me ask you this:

Does West Virginia ever wear a blue jersey with yellow pants?  Does Cal ever wear a blue jersey with yellow pants? (hint: they both do)

Why don't you and everybody else complain that we look just like WVU & Cal on every other Saturday?  If we're wearing the same color jersey and pants?

Do you know why we don't compare our football uniform to Cal?  Why Michigan's uniform is perennially listed as the tops in the sport and Cal/WVU are generally off the grid?  Anybody wanna take a guess?  It involves 3 stripes and wings and it's why we won't look like Cal or WVU in Dallas.  Anybody?

I'm through banging my head against the wall over this issue. I hate it but this is just the way college football is now and even schools like Michigan, who have iconic uniforms and absolutely no reason to do this, will do it. It's not going to stop. I guess it could be worse. Many teams sport alternates these days that don't even involve their own schools colors. So we're going to look like West Virginia for one game. Just beat the hell out of Florida. Then go for a meaningless two point conversion for shark man. And then add another bonus TD to stick it in Pete Finebaum's stupid face.

As NBC noted, I hope this is the last time we do something like this. NOT a fan of Nike treating UM like the second version of the Oregon Ducks as far as uniforms go.

They're awful. They look like Thursday Night Football Color Rush rejects. I would like it if they were blue pants. Too much maize and the maize looks a bit off as well. Our players are going to look like a French's mustard bottle.

I just want to say that this thread reads excatly like I thought it would read and the people who I thought would be on one side of this debate or the other turned out to be mostly as I expected. Well done, MGoBlog.

Sorry, sometimes having to read these threads, particularly ones that you assume will get contentious, creates assumptions in my mind, but I was mostly right this time

This was the worst idea executed as best as it could have been executed.

A regular season road game at a neutral site is the perfect time to do it (and it was best that they did it now before we'd NEVER agree to a neutral site regular season game again). Glad we have a high-quality equipment comany, because if this were Adidas it would be an entirely different level of vomit-worthy. The only new problem with this is that it's gonna be so color rush-esque since Florida is wearing all blue.

In the end though, if it is a bad idea, why do it in the first place?? I still don't get the logic behind doing this, still hate it, and still want to throw up after seeing these. As I said before, don't buy them at the M Den so these jerseys will only be remembered as "Those ugly things we wore THAT ONE TIME while we ass slapped Florida once again, this time in a dumb neutral site game in JerryWorld".

On the bright side:

We get to see the maize pants on the road like we wanted amiright?

Just win the game and move on.

Move on to our awesome home jerseys while we beat Cincy, our awesome road jerseys, and especially, when we commmorate the 1997 team by wearing their road jerseys with a modern faux-mesh look when we go out to State College, PA.

Might we intentionally stare at the eclipse until we burned our eyesight out to avoid these unis?

Or hell, maybe they are "yellow" enough to burn our eyes out Saturday.

One can only hope.

Can uniform threads be OT and therefore banned during the season? I hate the 17 clothing threads a day and the people bitching about said clothing.
