Lewis and Butt not finalists for major national awards

Submitted by Real Tackles Wear 77 on

Jourdan Lewis not a Jim Thorpe finalist and Jake Butt not a Mackey finalist.

Seems like a travesty in both cases, especially Jourdan's, though passes defended is not as sexy a stat as interceptions, so Iowa's Desmond King got the nod instead.

Woo man, I'm surprised you haven't been downvoted through the floor for daringly saying something reasonable that can be taken as a slight to a Michigan player. Upvoting your accordingly.

I dared share my opinion that Peppers would be more valuable as a safety or safety/LB type substance hyrbrid and even possibly a future RB and the board pounced on me with 25 negs. Next day Harbaugh mentioned in the presser that Peppers might get more looks at RB, ha!

Peppers will not spend 4 years as a CB, book it.

I can confirm that he is NOT Doc Brown.

The former Professor X is Doc Brown. big_house-500 later made an account called WingsNWolverines.

Notably trying to sell his ebay stuff here every week. I know this because he linked his Youtube on here as his meltdown account and it later was the same account when he linked it as WingsNWolverines.

Lewis not being on the list is silly; he's probably an All American candidate.  Jeremy Cash is a good safety, but Duke is scuttling and they've given up buckets of points recently.  At some point, you deserve a bit of the blame for a team's struggles.

Butt I guess I get because he's coming on a bit later, though I think he was just named the weekly Mackey award winner, so I'm not sure what matters to them.  Again, lots of these college awards are kind of dumb, and people who follow football know how good UM's players are.

But Graham never wound up on the shortlist for a national award.  And we punish/reward guys all the time for the success of their teams; there's a reason the Heisman and Maxwell award recipients typically feature mostly guys from teams that win 9+ games a year.  I'm not saying Cash isn't a very good safety, only that this feels a bit like a name recognition pick than a guy who has been instrumental in a great defense.

There's a difference between being a realist and being a pessimistic downer. Just because we're biased about them doesn't mean they aren't actually great. The fact is, national commentators have mentioned Lewis as having an All American caliber year, that isn't our bias. PFF isn't biased, and it is saying Lewis is the best in the country. And, as WolverineInCbus said, Butt's stats merit him being a finalist. If you're going to be a killjoy, at least do it with some basis.

more Lewis than Butt but still surprising. I actually thought Lewis would WIN the Thorpe so call me crazy. I'd have bet money on being a finalist. Maybe Butt isn't in due to the change in what a modern TE is on most teams? Doesn't he have more TE receptions and yards than any team in the B1G?
