a week is one thing but not playing a competitive game in 11-12 days is too much.  it's not like JB can start preparing for the opponent either until after selection sunday either, though he is the best at that, imo.

Another benefit I've considered: Because we've finished so early and can predict we'll be a 3 or 4 seed, this theoretically reduces the field that we will play in rounds 1 and 2 enough that Beilein and Co. can begin to look at our future opponent, as - for example - the pool of potential 13 and 14 seeds are also a relatively small group.

I couldn't get past that either. such stupidity tainted the rest of the comment. I know people use phones that auto correct and sometimes there are mistakes but he went out of his way to all caps it. such stupidity embiggens the bias of even the most cromulent of readers.

Hot team? I don't buy it. This is a GOOD team. Good teams are better rested. I know we're all going to get antsy waiting 11 days for more basketball. But debating whether or not Beilein will have this team is stupid. TL;DR You're stupid.

rest up and practice, practice practice. Some extra FT practice. We should be ready and any rust should fall off during the first half of the first game.

I actually only see pros and no cons: 1. Michigan just played 4 games in 4 days. 3 days off would not be ideal 2. Michigan's 1st round opponent shouldn't be a threat and the team will get back into their playing groove. The 2nd roud opponent will only have 1 day to prepare for Beilein's team - a really tough task given that either possible team will be hard pressed to make it to that game. 3. Beilein has a chance to install a few new wrinkles that will not be needed for the 1st weekend but can be used as a surprise for the 2nd weekend. In short, the team may not be all that sharp for the first game, but that shouldn't matter, and thus everything else is up-side

I wonder what the players think. I mean it's equally as important what us babbling goons think but I'm curious if the guys want to get right back out and play or if they're cool hanging for a week and a handful of days.

The winning isn’t a result of a hot streak. Michigan looks sound and confident. The BTT run allowed them to beat handily MSU, Purdue and Nebraska, so there’s nothing but positive to focus on going into the break. Plus, if they’re a 2 or 3 seed, they can shake off any rust vs in game 1 vs a 14 or 15 seed. If they do make a deep tournament run, imagine how valuable this rest will be.

It only matters for that first game.  After that, you are back in stride.

Not gonna lie, we are at a little bit of risk with a long layoff.  We rely on three point shooting and will be in a new building against a new team after 10+ days off.

We could come out cold and out of sync, which we have done a number of times before.

Fortunately we have the defense to keep us in it until we knock off the rust.

Hell, we were able to do that against MSU, and they're almost as good as whatever 14 or 13 seed we'll be playing.

I wonder what the early tournament will do to the Big Ten teams in the eyes of the committee. On the one hand, they all had BTT and nothing else really to watch, so maybe Michigan got a boost from the showcase, especially relative to MSU and Purdue. To the extent any committee member rely on the "eye test" over the numbers on the team sheets, we just put the best possible foot forward. On the other hand, there's like 100 games between last Sunday and selection Sunday. Will the committee forget about Michigan in that time, and be biased toward the teams they see more recently? If nothing else, dealing with the layoff is way better as a champion.

Not sure it’s been mentioned but it’s likely our first round opponent will also have had a lengthy layoff, albeit not quite as long as ours. This team will be ready, Z will make sure.

It's gotta be rough to balance academics during the 2-3 week stretch of a Big Ten tournament and then NCAAs.  This gives the players a couple weeks to knock out any papers/exams and then re-focus on basketball during the NCAAs

Jebus, man! You made me think a bunch of people were getting fired and I hadn't heard about it.

Don't scare me like that.
