Justin Turner Transferring AGAIN??
There's a lot of chatter on the Rivals board that Justin Turner is transferring from WVU to Notre Dame...College of Ohio.
Maybe this kid just isn't cut out for big time competitive play and was overhyped. Probably immensely talented in high school, but obviously, there's more needed to excel in D-1 ball.

Not knowing that a Notre Dame College of Ohio even existed, I looked them up. They are new to D-II school (they were NAIA just a year ago).
When previous top recruits didn't work out here for non-academic reasons (e.g., Dann O'Neill, McGuffie, Brandon Smith), they have basically always gone to other D1A schools, usually lower tier (e.g., WMU, Rice, Temple)
Unless someone turns up a relative/former coach who works at this school, this seems like just a crazy rumor. Even if he was vastly overrated, dropping below D1A, let alone going below D1AA, seems extremely unlikely. I find it hard to believe he couldn't play for one of the various MAC Ohio schools.

I could see him transferring to a 1-AA program so that he doesn't have to sit out a year. Transferring to Division II, though, where he might not even be able to get a full scholarship, seems odd.

I know a kid who is a freshman DB this year at Toledo. At one point he got a recruiting call from ND of Ohio. Almost the first thing the coach said to the kid's excited mom was, "We're not that Notre Dame."

that's why she was excited...

Maybe working hard for playing time in D1 just isn't his thing. He may like playing, but is kinda burnt out. Most of these kids have already been going 100% since they were 5 or 6.
The Qb at the local D2 school, Dan Latorre, was getting some looks from D1 schools, but tragedy and live intervened. He sat out for a year, then decided he missed it. Playing at D2 allowed him to enjoy playing, but doesn't have as much pressure. Met him at BU, very nice kid. Life helped him get his head on straight.
Maybe the same thing will happen to Turner? Wish him well.

Many a freshmen finds that life in the big city of A2 or even Morgantown is more than they can handle. Let's hope he gets things turned around at D-II Notre dame and goes on to find himself a future elsewhere. What this points out is that the issues appear to be his, and not those of his former coaches or others......

Man... There's a billion ND's. College of ND in Maryland, College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA...
The horror, the horror...

Would not have to worry about winter there. THAT could be a seling point. I mean your car starts every morning.

Maybe Turner just wants to go to a lower-pressure environment and this school sounds like the best fit. I will say, I thought one of his problems in A2 was that he didn't stay in great shape, and if you are not able to keep the weight off and stay in shape, it won't matter how talented you are at the D1 level. Also, it may be simply be a rumor, so who knows.

are very good coaches to play for. I'm surprised by Justin Turner's moves.

With a story already written about how Rich Rod abandoned him.

Doesn't he just use a form column with blanks for the athlete's name and reason for departure (no family values, lack of support, RRod is satan, Barwis molested him, etc.)? If you have given up on being a credible writer, why bother coming up with something from scratch each time?
