I'm guessing Morgan Trent won't be an honorary captain next year

Submitted by me on
yikes. not a fan of RR apparently.
• Morgan Trent, former U-M cornerback, played one year under Rodriguez: "I'm not surprised because I know what happened, and I know what kind of rules were broken. I couldn't see how they were going to get out of that. "Whatever steps need to be taken (to restore Michigan's winning tradition), I'm all for it. What is happening right now obviously is not working. I don't know how long they're going to let this last until changes are made. This year is going to be the tell-all what's going to happen. We can't have three losing years in a row. Not at Michigan. To lose seven of last eight games (in 2009) is an embarrassment."
EDIT: damn, too slow

He shit on RR, end of story. This is the last thing the team needs right. And its way worse than Braylong bc he played under RR and accused him of breaking rules, didn't just lament the bad record. For someone that made 13,000 of his 15k points nitpicking arguments and drawing the finest distinctions, you sure are overlooking a hell of a lot of what Trent actually said.

Wait...this is worse than Braylon because Trent actually played under Rodriguez? Hmmmm...I mean, I guess if you want an accurate representation, Trent would be the guy to talk to. If you want pure bullshit from a guy who had been gone for a couple years anyway, Braylon would be the guy. I don't know why you think Trent's opinion would be WORSE than Edwards'.

you are ignoring the bulk of what Trent said that has angered a lot of people. HINT: It's the part where he talks about Michigan breaking rules and how he knows he was breaking rules. This means a hell of a lot more coming from someone that, you know, played for RR. This is so blindingly obvious that you had to go out of your way to miss my point here. Instead, as you often do, you focus on one point in the overall argument ("omg RR's record IS bad, Trent is right!") that supports your point of view, then ignore/nitpick the hell out of anyone that disagrees. Then you bludgeon people with this point of view till they give up and move on. Your OCD bashing posts are somewhat entertaining when you pick from the low-hanging fruit that the board has to offer. When a serious topic arises it's pretty annoying.

OR, if you want the fresh, bitter stank of someone who endured his fair share of boos, Trent's your guy. I remember say, "God, that fucking guy sucks" a lot. Perhaps that sentiment x 105,000 caused him to temporarily forget his place.

What is that I do not know what i am talking about? I am willing guess you did not take the time to actually read the report and the NCAA bylaws (specifically sections outlined by brian. All you have to do is download the division1 pdf at NCAA.org. It takes a 5 second google search. Hey you can be douchebag if you want.

I enjoy reading your posts, and I like your bluntness. I'm not going to get in a pissing contest with you, since you're a 6'4" viking man. Basically, I'm just disappointed by these quotes. I have nothing against Trent, and I'm glad he gave his all for us. I'm just irritated today, and seeing this hurt. I will leave it at that.

Did Morgan Trent have a reason to say these things to the Detroit News? Regardless of whether it's true or not, the way it was said is no more constructive than making fun of Trent's sometimes poor coverage skills... And considering all this mocking of Trent is not going to be splashed in newspapers, I would say that it is more constructive.. or at least less deconstructive.

I don't think people are being completely irrational and attacking people for no reason. Morgan Trent just gave an interview to a local newspaper trashing the current coaching staff. This goes back to what Jim Brandstatter said the other night about being a Michigan Man. If Morgan Trent were a true Michigan Man, he would keep his mouth shut until the investigation is complete.

"This year is going to be the tell-all what's going to happen. We can't have three losing years in a row. Not at Michigan." This is not "trashing" the coaching staff. This is somewhat rational thought. He said Michigan can't have 3 losing years in a row and that Rodriguez could be in trouble if he doesn't win this year. I know some people around here think a new coach should get at least four years, but three years isn't a totally insane span of time to give a coach. Like I said in another thread, how many people here would be okay with another 5-7 or worse season? None.

"I'm not surprised because I know what happened, and I know what kind of rules were broken. I couldn't see how they were going to get out of that." "Whatever steps need to be taken (to restore Michigan's winning tradition), I'm all for it. What is happening right now obviously is not working. I don't know how long they're going to let this last until changes are made." That sounds like trashing the coaching staff to me.

How is this "trashing" the coaching staff? When I think of "trashing" someone, I think of a) making stuff up or b) making irrelevant comments. I don't think "trashing" someone is when you make comments verifying/suggesting the accuracy of official allegations.

I go back to what Jim Brandstatter said about being a Michigan Man. The Team, The Team, The Team. The Team and The University of Michigan come first. During this difficult time in UofM history, Morgan Trent went out of his way to say the coaches broke the rules, even before the entire investigation has been completed. He even suggested that a coaching change needs to be made. Morgan Trent threw Rich Rodriguez under the bus, and in my opinion, Morgan Trent is no longer a Michigan Man.

Look, I don't know what's true or not. But this: If Morgan Trent were a true Michigan Man, he would keep his mouth shut until the investigation is complete. Is 100% bullshit even if you BELIEVE in the "MICHIGAN MAN" type shit. A TRUE Michigan man would be willing to speak out and reveal a wrong-doing when he felt one was being committed - not go along to get along. He'd be willing to risk his standing among all the other MICHIGAN MEN to do what he felt was right. Isn't that we want out of people?

"even if you BELIEVE in the "MICHIGAN MAN" type shit" Michigan Man type shit? As a "Michigan Man" I resent that remark. Yeah, voicing your opinions and standing behind your convictions is part of the character trait, but so is knowing WHEN, WHERE, and HOW to do it. Airing your biased and clearly bitter opinion in the paper is NOT something that should be done, regardless of the circumstances. Not from a former player. Not out in public. (Consider it a code, if you will). Something I assume you'll simply brush off as "shit."

Maybe part of the problem is that corners like him get owned in big games..I would like to see a video of all the times Trent got tore up by receivers

The flaming hair he had most of his career is why he carried the nickname Toast...although I have to admit he was respectable most of the time as a senior. That being said, I will never consider the traitor a Michigan player again. Someone send him a TUOOS alumni ticket application...

I think the main point here is he could have kept his mouth shut. Michigan does not need anything else to be piled on like former players to say they were not surprised. I would think Morgan Trent wants what is best for Michigan and should know that there are some very smart people in charge of the program and what is going on with it and are working to fix it. Quotes that could be give the allegations more to stand on do not help the program repair what damages have occurred.

Not worried at all by this. What worries me is all the sparty/tosu/domer behavior thats being exhibited here. Don't worry folks. We don't even know what (if anything) is going to happen. Deep breath.

Fuck you very much. He's a prick for piling it on. I feel like now is one of those times where if you're a former player and you have nothing nice or constructive to say, then please don't say anything at all. The whole thing pisses me off. The Freep can burn down for all I fucking care. Just a game? I'm sorry, and many of you probably feel the same way, but my happiness especially during the fall is partly determined by the success of Michigan football. It's a sad existence, but that's my life and, to borrow from former pornstar and Tiger Woods mistress Josselyn James aka her real name, you can't help who or what you fall in love with. Words cannot describe my hatred for the Freep right now. The NCAA better not fucking reward Michael Rosenberg for his agenda-driven hack job. That would be another embarrassment and a huge injustice, at least to me.

I'm joining late to the party. I don't think that a kid should ever be raked through the coals who graduated for Michigan or who is currently playing for Michigan (or most who at one point in time played for Michigan FUCK YOU BOREN). But with that being said there is a time and a place for these comments and it is not the same day that the NNNNNEEEEEWWWW AD comes out and says "No matter what RR is our coach". This does nothing but throws another person talking bad about the program. Adds more fuel to the fire, more ammunition for the Freep et al. It's DUMB. It's a stupid comment and frankly it doesn't need to be made. There are times when you should speak up and times when you should stand down. This is the latter. Finally: "It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Magnus

February 23rd, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^

I cannot argue with any of this. These comments were not prudent. I have never suggested that they were. All I'm saying is that his comments a) aren't necessarily inaccurate and b) don't legitimize many of the comments that posters/fans have made about him.

say it for example: Your gf has really bad breath: "Hey honey your breath really smells could you try to brush it better because my eyes water when you kiss me" *smacks you in the face "Hey boss even though I respect you for getting to where you are in this company your style of management completely blows and you are completely in over your head for your position. You should be fired" *He fires you* There are many situations in life where you think something but then realize that "This is pretty stupid therefore I won't say it". Morgan MFing Trent should have kept his mouth shut. He should know better. Also his comment of "I'm not surprised because I know what happened, and I know what kind of rules were broken. I couldn't see how they were going to get out of that." This is just shitty and throws RR and the program underneath the bus. And no shit if shit doesn't go well RR is canned. NO SHIT? REALLY?

He's drawing more negative attention to the program for no good reason. It's completely unnecessary and nothing can possibly come of it. If I thought he had good intentions I might give him a pass...If we were at a tippping point with RR you could maybe make that argument. We're not. ...The same could be said about alot of "Michigan fans" recently. He should have more loyalty to the team(coaching staff aside).

If you have a problem, Morgan, talk to Dave Brandon behind the scenes and try to get it fixed. Because the problem with putting it in the Detroit News is that if you don't think Dantonio, Kelly, and Tressel won't be carrying a copy of this quote and using it to negatively recruit the eff out of Michigan, then you're naive. And that means you're actively causing problems for your alma mater.
