Part of the "article" below:

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report, Robinson's Chevy Impala slowly drove through an intersection on the wrong side of the road and ended up in a retention pond shortly after 4 a.m. July 3.

Robinson was found asleep at the wheel of his car while it was slowly sinking into the pond. The 25-year-old Robinson and his passenger, 29-year-old Marissa O. Staples, were unhurt. However, police officers had to tell Robinson multiple times that the car was in the pond and convince him to leave, according to the police report.

The report also stated that officer M.T. Borgert screened Robinson for impairment and determined that Robinson was not impaired and should not be charged with driving under the influence. In addition, it was written on the police report that alcohol and drug tests were not given.

However, Robinson said Thursday he was tested for impairment and he didn't seem pleased with the fact that the report said the police had trouble waking him up and convincing him and his passenger to leave the car.

I think most of us have heard recently that NFL players abusing pain killers will be the next big news cycle, and that's what this sounds like to me. IF that's the case for 16, I hope he can find help.

I'll share a personal story that is similar.

One night I stopped by my girlfriend's house which was on the way to where my friends were hanging out. I fell asleep and when I woke up I decided I still needed to drive to meet my friends (this was before cell phones). I hopped in my car and started driving and I could barely stay awake. I could tell it was dangerous.

I'm not saying this is what happened to Denard but it made me remember that night. I have driven under the influence in my younger days (not recommended) and I can honestly say I was more coherent those times than the time I was extremely tired.

Either way, I hope everything is ok for Denard.

Professional athletes get smacked with DUIs unfortunately often and they didn't even test him for alcohol or drugs, so I'm still leaning toward the carbon monoxide thing. Get the car checked out.

He was drunk, high, OD'd on pain killers...lol. I agree it's weird, but it's crazy how people just assume they know what happened when they weren't anywhere near the scene.

I'll just chalk it up to "who the fuck knows?" and "thankfully no one was hurt" and move on...because not ONE of us has a single iota of information that would help support a hypothesis.

Pretty easy to argue either side if no one can prove you wrong...but then you can't prove yourself right, so what's the point?

We don't have all the facts and DR doesn't have a track record of doing stupid shit so I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Personally, I think he's still stunned & possibly depressed at not being able to play under Jim Harbaugh.

In southern AZ. that meant it won't/can't  kill you. That, however may not be a scorpion from AZ.  Another "How deadly is it" factor is the size of it's pinchers, the bigger the pincher the less deadly it will be. Those pinchers are fairly large another indication it won't/can't kill you. The deadliest scorpion in southeast U.S. is the Bark scorpion it's fully grown at 1". The Bark scorpion will/can indeed kill you without immediate medical attention. This has been an unpaid announcement from a Wannabe Discovery Channel narrator . Found it just outside my front door Thursday morning. Something had pierced its shell and crushed a couple of its legs, the most likely candidate would have been a Roadrunner, which are carnivores and quite viscous, despite how they are depicted in the Bugs Bunny/Warner Brothers cartoons. The thing was still alive for a short period, they are quite hardy. A few years ago we scooped one out of the bottom of the pool, and after it dried out it started moving again.

Fortunately they prefer their burrows and stay out of houses. Their sting is extremely mild, and they eat other scorpions. We are well aware of the bark scorpion, and average finding one/year in the house. My wife has no fear of them (and has even been stung "no big deal"), but they absolutely creep me out...the one thing I hate about living in AZ, even in the middle of the summer.

Maybe they had a long night and didn't want to drive And decided to park and go to sleep. and when the cops knocked on window. maybe he didn't know he was in a pond and sinking, and thought the cops were just checking on him if alive and ok, and then signaled hes fine thx and zonked back to sleep. Not that far fetched ...well... I take that back...

Having investigated hundreds of accidents, I'll add my two cents. I'll start by saying that there isn't enough information here to speculate or draw conclusions. Having said that, there have been countless studies on what is called drowsy driving and these studies have generally concluded that driving drowsy can be as dangerous as driving while impaired. From the report it appears that one of two things occurred. 1) DR did not display any signs of impairment. I can only speak for our Canadian laws but without signs of impairement and without reasonable grounds to believe that DR had been drinking or using drugs (odour of alcohol, freshly burnt cannabis, etc) I would have no grounds for further testing. 2) there was something there and the officer cut him a break....been there, done that. One other note. I've been to a few accidents where people dozed off and had no idea where they were including one that was travelling the wrong direction to get home and drove into a field.

Who is ever so tired that they have to be told they're in a sinking car after they've crashed it into a pond? I don't care how tired you are. Crashing your car with all that adrenaline wakes you up. Not buying the story at all

But it was said that DR's car rolled slowly through the intersection and then into a retention pond... don't sound like near enough action to produce a concussion so terrible that he didn't know where he was or that his damn car was sinking

"Who is ever so tired that they have to be told they're in a sinking car after they've crashed it into a pond?"

His car didn't crash, it rolled into the pond.  There is video online of the car rolling through an intersection on the way to the pond and it's clearly not the expected vehicular behavior of a drunk driver.

He was still very much asleep when the police arrived and had to be woken up.  Maybe you've never been woken up after recently falling into a deep sleep but many people experience disorientation when being woken up.  There's actually even a sleep disorder called sleep drunkeness where people will commonly wake up severely disoriented.  This occurs even after a long night's sleep in their own beds.  I don't have that disorder but I can clearly recall many times my girlfriend would wake me up to the point of a response but not to the point that I was fully coherent.

In fact my ex-wife loved to tell a story about how I woke her at 3am in a panic.  She sat up and asked, "What's wrong?"  I took her pillow and then told her "Shhhhhh.  Go back to sleep."  I have no recollection of this ever happening and was clearly not aware of my surroundings or the impact of my actions on others.

There is a big difference between driving drowsy which many of us have done and falling asleep behind the wheel which most likely few of us have.

I have on multiple occasions been woken up in deep REM sleep by an alarm and then had to spend several minutes trying to figure out how to turn off the alarm.  I also once woke up in a situation like this and wanted to say something about a spoon but could not remember the word for spoon...while my roomate laughed hysterically.  Being woken from a deep sleep is very disorienting.

The fact that they were both in the same shape says either, a) car has a stupid bad exhaust leak, or b) substances of some kind. Nothing says nice guys can't mess around with stuff too.

I think Denard and his cousin should have taken a cab and gotten the car the next do if they were really tired. Never really going to know the full story since no one knows what happened.

So we all love denard but wanna figure out a way he is guilty of the circumstances. Good job! Quit post this bull shit. He's did not blow hot, or test positive for drugs in any NFL test. Maybe he's tired from just working his ass of to make it in the nfl..go blue

He falls asleep at a red light, his passenger's already asleep, and they drift in to the pond.  So it was hard to wake him up.  Ever try to wake up a high-schooler to tell them class is over?  Takes a few tries.

Is it possible that he simply fell asleep from jetlag at the wheel and ended up in a pond? Yes I know not enough story or drama. It looks like they rolled the same speed the whole way and rolled into a shallow retaining pond. He never attempted to steer at all as if, as if he were, asleep. Strange he would say that instead of some elaborate excuse that never changed. But I really believe this is all Borges's fault cut and dried.

Tired? Why are a lot of posters fixated on that point? If I am driving late at night, do I need to basically assume everyone is dreaming about fluffy clouds?

He could have slept all day and been wide awake when he got in the car. If his passenger noticed what was happening, they should have darn well shaken his rear end and taken over the drive.

I try my best not to assume much in life. But the dude didn't even know what happened, even after the fact. He wasn't in the right frame of mind, and it's more than sleep deprivation.

Another poster summed it up perfectly. If he was just "sleeping," the second that car smashes into that pond, there's no freaking way you are staying asleep. Unless it's one of those calming "wave pools."

"I try my best not to assume much in life....the second that car smashes into that pond"

You failed here.

http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2016-07-20/story/video-jaguars-rb-denard-robinson-driving-retention-pond-released-police

Just watch the video.  That car didn't "smash" into anything.  He was clearly stopped at the light for a period of time.  At some point it appears he fell asleep or passed out.

It starts at the 26th minute.  He very slowly crosses the intersection, thankfully without crossing the path of an oncoming car and rolls into the retention pond.  First responders don't arrive until the 31st minute.  So he'd at least have been asleep for 5-6 minutes by that time.  The video very clearly seems to back up what was reported by everyone involved.

Now I'm not assuming he didn't have anything in his system that caused him to pass out, but at least get some real context on the events that happened.
