Control What You Can Control

This is a mantra that coaches always preach. Control what you can control, and good things will happen. This wasn't a well-officiated game, to put it mildly, but you don't control the officials. What do you control?

The officials didn't settle for FGs on four trips deep into Spartan territory. The officials didn't let KW3 run wild for 197 yards and 5 TDs. The officials didn't drop catchable balls. The officials didn't commit a false start on 4th and short. The officials didn't fumble a handoff. The officials didn't get caught out of position on defense when the Spartans ran up-tempo.

If Michigan controls even half of these things that were under their control, they win.

Everyone is disappointed in the outcome. Your post isn't wrong but neither are the Ref snowflakes.  Some of these calls / no calls do absolutely swing the outcome.

If a strip-sack TD isn't overturned, Michigan wins.  If a 1st down at the 2 isn't pushed back by a phantom hold, Michigan probably wins.  If a non-called defensive hold is called, Michigan probably wins.

I mean, yes, Michigan could have done a better job across the board, and certainly could have played better on defense.  But to just throw out bad officiating is complaining about your kid not getting clean because he took a bath in a mud puddle.

Yup.  Both teams did enough to win.  Both teams did enough to lose.  Only one team had points taken off the board, and about 50 other things work against them.  Also tired of "you should have done (x) to prevent the refs having such a large effect" when you played the best game of your season

It’s a no win situation when it comes to complaining about officiating. Let’s say we won today even though the officiating was one sided, people would say it didn’t affect the outcome and officiating is just poor across the board. If you lose, it’s just an excuse for most people. People can point to numerous things we did or didn’t do in the game that would have changed the game but don’t want to point to officials changing the game themselves. I think it should be obvious today that we didn’t get the fair shake when it came to the officials or the announcers.

Well, actually they had a lot to do with three of those field goals.

-The first came after Anthony was called for a phantom hold, which negated a first down inside the 5.

-The third came after the replay booth overturned Hutchinson's TD.  We got the ball back with just enough time to kick a FG before half.

-The last came after they swallowed their whistle on a 3rd-down pass where Johnson was clearly knocked off balance before the ball came.
