Perhaps an OSU win helps keep Alabama out? I'm not sure. I suppose I really don't care about this game
December 4th, 2021 at 12:19 PM ^
Man I hate that champsionship college football is played in the DrPepper Dome or any of these antiseptic corporate NFL monstrosities
December 4th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
not a fan either.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
Agreed. They should all be named after a famous but openly racist coach from the 1940s, or a booster who made his billions by killing his workers en masse. Corporations are evil!!! ?
December 4th, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
Corporations are evil!!!
If only for the aesthetics
I wasn't making a moral argument btw
December 4th, 2021 at 12:32 PM ^
My bad. I thought you were complaining about the naming rather than the stadium. Of course, the corporations don’t make those stadiums, just sponsor them. I’d love the game to be on campuses too.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
It's both. It's mostly the stadium experience -- college football just doesn't feel right in an NFL dome.
But the naming does detract as well. E.g. the ILoveBrandNewCarpet.com Bowl presented by Liberty Mutual just doesn't sound as cool as a bowl named after some local flavor.
(And if we did want to go down the moral route, certain soft drink behemoths have done some pretty despicable things -- and in the time frame they've been sponsors of these games -- particularly with union leaders in South America, but I had two Diet Cokes this week so who am I to judge...)
December 4th, 2021 at 1:03 PM ^
I just tried to google the name of Ohio State’s stadium, but instead I got “Did Ohio Sate change their name:
The change from simply "OSU" was said to "reflect the national stature of the institution." University officials wanted the institution to be known as "The Ohio State University," again, since OSU could also mean Oregon State and Oklahoma State University.
He said simply OSU
December 4th, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
Yeah. Nike comes to mind.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
Silver lining: the cheerleaders don't have to wear fucking turtlenecks
December 4th, 2021 at 12:35 PM ^
I like turtlenecks. It's the soccer mom sweatpants I don't like.
December 4th, 2021 at 2:01 PM ^
It always worked for the song girls.
December 4th, 2021 at 1:37 PM ^
College basketball is as well...
December 4th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
Assuming Michigan wins, Oklahoma State winning (+ Cincy winning) helps keep a more talented team (e.g. Alabama) from backing in somehow. It also keeps ND out, because to hell with Notre Dame
If Iowa somehow wins, a Baylor win here might help Michigan back in. But I don't want to consider that right now
December 4th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
Cool of the MAC to let both teams wear their home jerseys. Looks like a poor man's UCLA/USC, which is annually the best dressed game of the year.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:29 PM ^
BU's backup QB looks pretty good. Curious how the two teams settle in a bit.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:33 PM ^
OSU could assert itself here. If they’re held to a field goal or less here though that would bode well for the Bears. We’ll see how this progresses although I’ll be switching to basketball at 1:00 to see our boys take on SDSU which should hopefully be good.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
Momentum killer
December 4th, 2021 at 12:35 PM ^
Wow I wonder if the white is blending into the field lines? That was a lame pass
December 4th, 2021 at 12:38 PM ^
That was a nice play call for the TD. I can see Cade doing that. Probably much easier to do against the Big12 defenses though.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:38 PM ^
Early on, Baylor's offense looks like the best unit on the field. Surprising, given what I've been hearing about the Pokes' D.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
Both teams with a turnover early. I like the cool play of the Baylor's young QB.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
The OKST front is stout. The back end got suckered on that TD
December 4th, 2021 at 12:43 PM ^
Turnovers man
December 4th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Ok St is playing themselves out of the playoff picture with these turnovers.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
Another bad play by OSU QB. Wow.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come later...
Chaos already today.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
I was just thinking, what if Oklahoma St, Alabama, and Cinci lose, which is not improbable by any means? OSU is sitting at 7, and I think that could be a scenario where they have a real chance of falling ass-backwards into the CFP.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:57 PM ^
And we get matched up with them again….
December 4th, 2021 at 1:47 PM ^
Don't you remember all the shrieking, "people don't want to see rematches!!!" from people like Gary Danielson back in 2006?
December 4th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
I don't know, unless Cincy or Oklahoma state get blown out, I still think a conference championship game should have more weight that a team sitting home this weekend, win or loss.
December 4th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
If Baylor beats OSU bad -- which it looks like now -- Baylor is getting in before OSU.
December 4th, 2021 at 1:08 PM ^
The committee would have to take a hard look at Baylor.
Baylor would have won the Big 12, Ohio State did not even win their division. And winning a conference matters to the committee. Also, Ohio State's loss to Oregon is not looking so good now.
At the end of the day, these are still political organizations. They can't keep leaving major conferences out of the CFP or it will implode. They would be hard pressed to leave out the 2-loss Big 12 champion to get a second Big Ten team in that also has 2 losses and did not win anything.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
Sanders is trying to carry his team but he's not up to it.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
OSU is imploding. They need to get it together.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Michigan would feast on this OSU quarterback.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
Just goes to show nothing is certain. I hope our team is ready to fight tonight.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
No other game has any influence on our game tonight. Michigan will come to win and will do so after 4 quarters. I believe that.
December 4th, 2021 at 1:14 PM ^
May not have an influence on , but it will determine who we should play in the CFP. \
I dont want to play Georgia or Alabama at all if can be avoided . Not likely I know ,but if we can play a Cincy or OK State in the semis that would be much easier to win and play for the championship .
December 4th, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
Our OL is much better and Cade is more careful with the FB. OSU is not a good offensive team surprisingly even though they are in B12. So, I am hoping we come out with a balanced approach.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
With apologies to Corso's prediction, OkSt thus far not looking good to win the whole CFP.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
Took the Kent State 1st half team total Over (I believe 19.5). Shut out well into the 2nd quarter
My bets have been so bad lately, I feel like I control the universe
Iowa moneyline it is
December 4th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
Things are snowballing
December 4th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
Cowboys are shook.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
If Michigan wins we want OKst to win. If Michigan loses we want Baylor to win. Since we play after it’s hard to pick a team right now.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:57 PM ^
So, If OkSt, Alabama, and Cinci lose, dose Baylor get in over Ohio St?.
December 4th, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
If Alabama loses, they are getting in over OSU. It would be Georgia, Michigan, ND and Alabama. And Baylor would be ahead of Ohio State as well.
December 4th, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
A run in 3rd and 15? Is OSU folding already?
December 4th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Come on Okie St wake the fuck up …. don’t want the committee giving any chance to love on notre shame … especially if Bama loses OSU and Cinci have to win …. fuck notre shame now and forever
December 4th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Maybe a Baylor win helps assure Cincinnati as the 3 seed with an Alabama loss later.
