Start June 26 Comcast is doing away with free Peacock for everyone

However, if your a Internet Gigabit or Diamond or Platinum Rewards Member you can still get it free (gigabit for two years, Rewards members as long as your keep account open)

$2.99 a month if you aren't giga internet or those two rewards levels.

With Michigan's football opener and probably several basketball game this might come in handy.

I couldn't watch the App State game because Comcast and the B1G Network couldn't reach an agreement at the time.

Hopefully this game ends up with a different result...

This seems like a big tub of stuff that I don't want to be immersed in

I subscribed to Peacock over the last month to see what I'd be getting myself into by adding another streaming service to the list. Some thoughts:

The ability to watch The Dan Patrick Show on the app is awesome. Huge DP fan.

Old SNL episodes are great and there are a ton of them.

Bupkis with Pete Davidson was a decent show. Joe Pesci and Edie Falco both have supporting roles.

That's all I got

With the Max merger including Discovery+ content, Disney buying Hulu, and subsequently increasing their subscription prices, we're ultimately where we were - paying premium pricing for bloated bundles of content we don't actually want.

Next thing you know, ads will be compulsory on platforms regardless of pay tier.

I remember when Netflix first came out and being able to watch almost any classic movie I wanted to was amazing - now it's mostly Netflix exclusive content - which isn't very good with the exception of a few titles.

Going to go back to pirating again here soon, which I haven't done since the early 2000s.

I completely agree with you.

So I'm paying 200+ a month for cable/internet/home phone

I pay for Netflix for the kiddo because there is about 50 shows that she happily watches.

I get Max thru my cable provider so that's nice.

I got a 3 month free trial to apple tv and then another 6 months free when I purchased a PS5.

I just added the lowest tier of Disney Hulu and ESPN plus because of kids shows and I didn't realize I could watch Detroit FC with ESPN plus.

Is 300 per month too much to be entertained? I do it because I'm lazy.

Jesus man …. youre way overspending.

We spend $70 on 200 mbps internet. $80 for YouTube TV, $16 for Netflix, $15 for Hulu. Less than $200 for every channel/show/game I’d ever want to watch

My mother in law also put peacock and paramount on my Roku as that’s what she watches and she visits frequently but I never watch them except for maybe 5 times a year for an occasional Premiere league game or when something dumb like “Michigan game only on Peacock!” happens

I am sure some will neg me for the pirating thing but that pisses me off no end.  I am an IP lawyer and when someone pirate's someone else's content, to me it is no different than stealing goods that are not yours.  I will get off my soapbox but when people steal, others end up paying more.  It is a cost of doing business but it is not fair to those of us who play by the rules.  I'm not talking about two people who can legitimately use the same login and PW.  If that is what the contract allows, go for it.

If you like the content, buy it, if not do without.  I agree, this Peacock thing sucks, but that's the quid pro quo for getting paid what the B1G will receive from its new contract.

I won't neg you but I will offer up a counterpoint.

I used to pirate everything. However I'm one of those guys who used thepiratebay or whatever as a preview for finding media I may enjoy.

I had a humongous DVD/Blu-ray collection. I have an extremely large album collection.

I have no problem giving money to creators who do it for me. The problem is there is a lot of shit to wade through and some of us don't feel like we should have to wear a pair of swampers to find new music or shows.

I use Peacock a lot because I enjoy their sitcom selection to have on while doing mindless tasks like cooking or cleaning and I enjoy putting them on before bed. They also have pretty good soccer coverage. I'm not thrilled that we have all these streaming services (some at little to no out of pocket costs, some pricey), but we're still paying less than when we had cable. For any sports I can't get locally or streaming legitimately, I just stream on Sport Surge (if I recall the name correctly).

Poker face with Natasha Lyonne was pretty entertaining with some fun cameos and storytelling that was formulaic enough that you could follow it without paying the kind of hyper close attention that's necessary with some prestige tv. Felt like an updated version of crime procedurals.

Agree on Poker Face.

Trying to get into Mrs. Davis - premise is fascinating - but it's getting to be a bit of a slog for me.

Killing It was kind of stupid, but kind of funny.

I might watch Rutherford Falls. Heard it was funny. I overlapped in high school with Ed Helms (and Brian Baumgartner from the Office), so figure I'll it a shot.

i'll be at another game and won't be able to watch it anyway, but just out of curiosity, will the standard hulu subscription be able to watch the michigan/ECU game?

Peacock TV stinks from what I’ve been told. There are other good games on that day. I’ll watch the highlights and then analyze the game through reruns if available on a service besides Peacock. If not no big deal.

I’m certainly not going to get involved with lining up Peacock to watch Michigan play East Carolina. Not going to support that dumb move by Michigan. If people do that it will only get worse.

I suppose this isn't directly related to this post. Maybe indirectly, but at a certain point I have to wonder if cutting the cord is really going to put more money back into your pocket than if you still subscribe to cable.

I guess if you had been subscribing to both and then just drop cable full cold turkey then you get money back, but if you drop cable in favor of YouTube TV, how much money are you getting back? I think YouTube TV just upped their prices, and they were already at $65/month before the hike. And that's not even including the extra $15-$20/month you have to pay if you want to go for their 4k service.

At what point, if its not already here, does cord cutting essentially take the same amount of money out of your pocket that cable does? I can't imagine these prices are ever really going to go down.

I am a DirecTV customer right now and have been considering getting rid of it in favor of YouTube TV or Fubo, or something similar.  I think those services are like $75/month.  I am paying like $145/month for DirecTV and just about every channel that I want.  With taxes, fees, equipment rental bullcrap, etc, it comes to about $160/month.  I guess $85/month would be worth it for me to cut the cord.  And I don't have any worries about streaming bandwidth now because we replaced our shitty Spectrum cable modem with Google Fiber.

But OTOH, the $85/month savings is not really going to make/break our budgets.  So there is something to be said for staying the course and not adding tasks to my life.  I would love it if someone could just come in and do the changeover for me.  Add YouTube TV or whatever, get that working flawlessly, call and cancel DirecTV, etc.

I'm starting to sound like my parents.

Savings are pretty minimal at this point, particularly once you add in Netflix, Max, etc. However, I do like that you can pause the streaming services very easily in periods of the year when you're not using them, which wasn't my experience with either TimeWarner or Fios. My family uses youtubetv almost exclusively for sports, and don't care about baseball, so we basically pause it until September after the NBA's done. That saves around $170.

I am an old guy and never have had a streaming service My TV would need Roku or a firestick

to get Peacock. I am willing to buy one and add it to my TV.  My problem is I will be traveling on the day of the opener, Will I still be able to watch the game the next day or does Peacock only stream it live.

This has me thinking - what other games are even remotely "worth watching" that first weekend?

I'll be tailgating from our usual spot for the ECU game - and, will watch it in person.   I'm already thinking about "post game" programming for our tailgate tv.

Colorado and TCU kick off at the same time as Michigan does.  The afternoon games (3:30 pm EDT) include Ohio State at Indiana,  and Tennessee State at ND.  That's about it for the possible viewing pleasure as I grill our "post game" burgers.

Xfinity is terrible and Peacock is not all that great, but you do get to be a platinum member just by having a service of theirs for a minimum of seven uninterrupted years.

Could be worth a check for anyone that’s had Xfinity for awhile.

If you want to save some money on a subscription to PeacockTV, there is a one year prepaid deal.

Peacock TV is offering for New Peacock Accounts: 1-Year of Peacock Premium for $19.99 when you apply promo code N2TEWDZZ in the Redemption Box on the page and complete checkout. (from slickdeals)

The deal is good through July 8, 2023.

I went ahead and took advantage of a $20 for a year and subscribed to Peacock for the ECU game. I have actually started watching Saturday Night Live reruns from season 1 forward since I'm an old guy who watched them 50 years ago.

Peacock, from a streaming tech perspective, is probably the best in my opinion. It doesn't require logins all the time, is pretty easy to navigate, and I haven't really had problems with buffering/connection as often as I do with ESPN and FOX Sports apps.

The problems with streaming remain poor internet connections and the lengthy delay from live, much longer than cable or OTA.
