2011 MLB on Michigan's radar?

Submitted by M.I.Sicks on
Digging around on this obscure recruiting website I stumbled upon a Michigan related piece of info in their forum. "Michigan stopped by Boyd Anderson not only trying to make one last late push for 2010 S Demar Dorsey, but to check in on what looks to be the jewel of the Cobras' 2011 class, LB Kent Turene." http://www.soflafootball.com/fan-forum/topic.php?id=1293 There's a highlight video on the site. The kid looks like a pretty good player.

starts out decently enough, but he definitely starts to impress me around the 1:19 mark - he starts shedding blockers and makes some vicious hits. He seems to have everything a coach could want, with the added benefit of being college-size already.

He definitely has the right size, and looks like he can develop into the hard-hitting MLB that we need. I'm definitely going to pay attention to what type of interest he attracts in the future. I'd be a little cautious about bringing in more recruits from Boyd Anderson though. Dorsey wanted to get away from some of the people down there, so we don't necessarily need to bring them up to him. Either way, I trust the coaches to determine whether it is a good idea. This kid looks like the run-stopping MLB we would need against a team like Wisconsin. Needless to say, we'll take as many as we can get.

What am I missing?

He's not saying DON'T bring them in. He's saying the coaches need to find out if any future Boyd Anderson kids are the ones that Dorsey was trying to escape from. I don't see what the big deal is. He just wants the coaches to do their homework.

Dorsey's problems happened when he was 15 and 16 and involved older players on his team. This particular recruit is younger than Demar and that would rule him out of the group he got in trouble with. I would think they could find out about this recruit from Demar himself and a would guess that they already have. Hopefully, the coaches do their due diligence on every player they recruit otherwise they are not doing their job.

And...? This doesn't mean that people one year younger can't be negative influences. Saying "I want to get away from some of the people down there" doesn't necessarily refer specifically to the people he got in legal trouble with. Nobody's saying this guy is a problem. All anyone's saying is that hopefully Rodriguez won't look into bringing up anyone who might be a bad influence, which is a sentiment that I'm sure we ALL agree with. The end.

Its just the fact that Dorsey is only going to get one chance. Little things that a guy might do with his HS buddies probably aren't going to fly in Ann Arbor. Something benign such as "grabbing a girl's ass at a party" might be enough to get him in trouble. That's all I was trying to say.
