WTKA Roundtable 1/31/2019: Lyin' Momma Wesson Comment Count

Seth February 1st, 2019 at 7:47 AM

Things discussed:

  • Craig Ross's wife calls out Terry Mills
  • Sam has never had someone say they had a good experience in Columbus
  • "F—Ohio" lacks cleverness. Michigan can do better.
  • Mama Wesson is a liar.
  • Indiana's self-immolation. Something's up in that locker room.
  • Iggy's shots are vastly better when he doesn't have to create them.
  • Teske's ability to stay on the court vs. Kaleb Wesson's conditioning.
  • Josh Langford loss doesn't hurt MSU.
  • What's wrong with Nebraska: James Palmer is one of the most disappointing guys in the league.
  • We get Ira started on Maryland

You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Podbean.

Segment two is here. Segment three didn't get recorded, sorry.

THE USUAL LINKS

I don't think Michigan needs to be supporting people who are going to outright lie about their experience.

I was at OSU the in 1992 when we tied 13-13 at the height of the roid era.   It was the only school I've ever been at where the students were bigger than the football players.  I avoided getting in a fight, but there was a lot of threatening yells and really drunk people.  I've hate great experiences at PSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, and even Northwestern and I want to go back to all of them.  I don't have a lot of desire to go back to Columbus.   (MSU is very meh.)

Iggy is one helluva a player and definitely in the mix for "The #1 reason for Michigan's success" this year. A (further) step up in his growth toward being an elite player will be when he starts seeing his open teammates-when he drives to the basket and suddenly has 3 defenders on him. But I certainly love what he brings to this team!!!

I didn't comment in the other thread, but I do think the student cheering section can do better. We've all heard foul and obscene language. In some settings, it is completely common. It's something many people, many players, and many fans, use all the time. But there is a time and a place.

Here in Chicago, the current Mayor is known for being extremely crude and rude and dropping f-bombs left and right . . . in private. But he doesn't do that in public. He doesn't lead a cheer saying "F the Republicans. F the president. F the (previous) governor." I wouldn't be surprised if "F them" is what he thinks and feels, but he generally doesn't express that in public.

For the student section, be more creative. There have been lots of comparisons to Yost. The thing with Yost is that they had some reasonably clever and understandable and annoying cheers. Many were crass. But they involved a lot more than just repeating f-bombs.

FTR, it won't personally upset me. I'm not bringing little kids to Crisler anytime soon. But I just think we can do better. F-bombs all the time seems more from the provenance of MSU or OSU. Imhe.
