A funny little bit about a course at OSU brought to you by The Daily What.

Twilight? Must be a 300 level course then...
EDIT:: It makes sense now. The prereqs are "Drawing in the lines 101" and "An introduction to coloring books." And we thought they were reading it for a class...silly us.

This saddens me for the level of what college honors courses have deteriorated to. Don't get me wrong, I don't think everything needs to be classic literature, but seriously Twilight? Is Harry Potter being taught now too?
January 31st, 2011 at 2:57 PM ^
yes. Harry Potter seems to be pretty popular in college...

Hmm...I see. Yale of all places.
Oh and for you, "Dorothy Mantooth was a saint"
January 31st, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
I kind of hate that I posted something referencing Yale in a thread talking about OSU's academics. Sounds like I'm defending OSU. I'm not.

I was forced to read Harry potter and the sorcerer's stone and Anne of Green Gables in English 124 at Michigan. Would have been nice if I knew I was walking into children's lit so i could have switched sections.
I don't think we can make fun of them for twilight.

Leave Harry out of this

I'm in a 400-level english class here and my homework over the weekend was to watch 3 Disney movies. Later in the semester we read Harry Potter. Does it make it ok if it's for a Children's Literature class?

Reading Twilight makes you stupider. It's the literary equivalent of daytime TV.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
Daytime TV can teach you about the science behind lie detector results, paternity tests (both from our pal Maury), and amnesia (every soap opera ever).
Twilight, on the other hand, has no such redeeming qualities.

His hair gives me a wettie. So dreamy...
January 31st, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
Do you think it's just Twilight or reading about OSU in general? Perhaps it's best to avoid both.

Honors at Ohio State is like winning the Special Olympics.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
For some reason this doesn't surprise me. I can't recall but in one of tosu games they showed tressels class and a kid was on facebook during it. lmao no surprise.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:33 PM ^
That never happens anywhere but in classes at Ohio State.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:13 PM ^
When I was in college I took a Pop Culture class where we had to read the books "Ender's Game" and "Dawn". It was the most enjoyable easy class in the history of easy classes. Funny thing is that I had never read a book "for fun" before that class, but after it I started reading every day, and still do. I guess I would have less of an issue with this if it wasn't an honors class, even though it looks like they're reading it for comparative purposes.

Negged for saying the b-word.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:13 PM ^
At least the students can watch the movies and get the info that they miss from being unable to read at such a high level.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:27 PM ^
stephen king called the twilight author the worst writer he's ever read. so, basically a perfect fit for OSU.
January 31st, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
And all it cost him was one pair of gold pants and his Rose Bowl ring.

They can read?

I gave Ohio State the benefit of the doubt when i first saw that and assumed that it was Oklahoma State or Oregon State. A quick check on Rate My Professor however...

... and I'm not sure why I didn't just assume what I wanted to believe fromt he very beginning.

HA! That is fantastic!!! Unfortunately I cannot IM or email the crap out of this link to everyone work because the servers have died on us. It's too bad since I live in Columbus and work with mostly osu grads/fans. Just hope the servers come up soon.

I live in Cleveland and am moving to Columbus soon. Survival tips? Earplugs and whiskey?

Pooper scooper. Bleach, lots of.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
Twilight is considered to be 4th grade reading level material.
I have no joke to go along with that. Just a sad, sober statement.
January 31st, 2011 at 3:34 PM ^
That's why it's an honors course. You can't expect the average tOSU student to be able to handle such a high level.
January 31st, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
Finally, I may have found a school that will allow me to pursue my PhD in American Idol Studies. Time to print out an application.
It will be "Dr. PurpleStuff" to you, bitches!
January 31st, 2011 at 3:01 PM ^
...or should the creation of any course that equates Twilight with anything done by Mary Shelley immediate grounds for dismissal?
January 31st, 2011 at 3:20 PM ^
Spec-tacular.
Although it might be a bit tough for OSU fans to grasp that book. The longest word has 4 syllables, and is therefore longer than the longest one OSU fans know how to spell (ohio).
January 31st, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
for when they become the bloodsuckers of society.
Also, is this why OSU has sparkles in their helmet paint?
January 31st, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
if it were a psychosocial study on the Twilight phenomenon
That would be a worthwhile endeavor
but no
it's a fucking English class
