Michigan offers 4 star LB Antonio Poole
Hoke and company are going after some pretty good talent. Poole would be a great pick-up for our linebacking class. Dont know why RichRod never offered.
Hopefully Mattison walks in, shows him a picture of Ray Lewis, and walks out with a commit.

I wonder how he eats a whopper

flame broiled

But, man, I expect this to work wonders on the next class.
January 21st, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
that the recruiting is really focused towards our Defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 21st, 2011 at 5:53 PM ^
it's blatantly obvious our defense is bad... so....
January 21st, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
Extremely happy with the focus put on defense at this point. It's a desperate need and we are addressing it.

Poole would be a great pick-up for our linebacking class. Dont know why RichRod never offered.
Cause he plays defense?

I still can't stop laughing. The biggest problem with a statement like that, is that it is true.
January 21st, 2011 at 7:10 PM ^
Anthony Zettel, Darian Cooper, Mickey Johnson, Tim Jernigan, Kevin Williams, Ray Drew, Jadeveon Clowney, Deion Barnes, Brennan Beyer, Kellen Jones, Desmond Morgan, Lamar Dawson, Ed Davis, Lawrence Thomas, Kris Frost, Trey DePriest, Greg Brown, Delonte Hollowell, Blake Countess, Dallas Crawford, Doran Grant, Raymon Taylor, Avery Walls, Wayne Lyons, Ha'sean Clinton-Dix, or Karlos Williams?
If Dave Brandon hadn't turned Michigan football into a smoking crater you would probably be jumping up and down about the great defensive commits that RR added to the 2011 class.

I am all for people getting behind the new staff and as big a RR supporter as I was, I was at the point wheree I felt something had to change. However, the people on this site that are trying to suggest RR wasn't recruiting every bit as hard and as well as this new staff are either pretty uninformed or have very short memories.
Let's also remember...these are OFFERS for pete sake, not committs. If we end up with a decent class inspite of the position DB put us in I will lead the way to the roof tops so we can all sing BH's praises re: recruiting, but how about we let this play out before we all start congratulating everyone on a great class.
January 22nd, 2011 at 10:29 AM ^
Giving him credit for all those guys assumes lots of things. The biggest being that they would have even come here anyways. I see guys that we know were probably was solid. Hollowell, Beyer, Jones, and Morgan. We know they were probably solid because it appears they have no intention going elsewhere despite the coaching change.
Ed Davis and Lawrence Thomas were highly regarded in state linebackers that blew us off for MSU many months ago. Rodriguez is gone to a great degree because of this disturbing pattern.
January 22nd, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
The post I replied to said that RR didn't make an offer to Poole because he plays defense, implying that RR didn't make offers to defensive players. I simply pointed out some of the players on D who were recruited by RR. He absolutely gets credit for those guys in that context.
In addition, several of the players listed would have likely been Wolverines if Brandon hadn't screwed up. Dallas Crawford, Frost (although I would expect him to be a WR), Avery Walls, Wayne Lyons, Raymon Taylor, Blake Countess, Anthony Zettel, and Darian Cooper are all top quality defensive players that RR pursued and had a very good chance of landing.

Now, just if the coaches can seal the deal on this kid. Would be a huge pick up.

3 star on espn and rivals but 4 on scout.
January 21st, 2011 at 5:09 PM ^
Hoke's already offering more 4 stars than RR ever did!
January 21st, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
really makes you wonder dont it
January 21st, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
It do.
January 21st, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
RR only went after those shitty 3-stars like Kris Frost, HaSean Clinton-Dix, Lamar Dawson, Dee Hart, Karlos Williams, Ray Drew and Sammy Watkins.
Thank God we're not stuck with any of them.
January 21st, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Don't forget those clowns he recruited in 2010:
Richard Ash, Cullen Christian, Demar Dorsey, Devin Gardner, Marvin Robinson, and Ken Wilkins.
January 21st, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
Never heard of them. Were they not present at the most recent Circus Circus?

doesnt all these offers by hoke make you wonder what rr was doing? was he settlling on wv talentt at place where he could have had more? if hoke pulls out a third of these we will know rich didnt know how to sell michigan.
January 21st, 2011 at 5:37 PM ^
We're seeing new names because we have entirely new recruiters (sans Jackson) with different contacts, philosophies, etc. RR was hampered because other schools convinced prospects (accurately) that he would soon be gone. Hoke has the Ravens D-Coordinator as a recruiting trophy wife.
I am not knocking Hoke at all, I love what he is doing. But his efforts in the last few days do not show RR's recruiting in a negative light at all. RR had two 5* before his firing became imminent.

any film of this kid?
January 21st, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Febuary 2nd yet?...Every day I'm getting more n more excited about this staff's ability to recruit.
January 21st, 2011 at 6:56 PM ^
Hoke must feel like he has won a shopping spree to The Somerset/5th Avenue/Rodeo Dr (depending on your geographical bias). He has the schollies and has until Feb 2nd to spend them. Fill that shopping car Brady!
January 22nd, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
Michigan gives him the power to talk to guys who he had no hope with at his previous job. Great analogy.
January 21st, 2011 at 6:03 PM ^
Poole is expecting to get a scholarship offer from Miami on his official there right now.. we'll see what happens.
January 21st, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
I see why the offers are few. His pursuit angles are similar to that of one Obi Ezeh...remember him? Yeah, its impressive that he misreads a run (really misses a tackle) and then has the speed, hustle, and determination to pursue the guy and ends up bringing him down, but I would not use that play in a highlight reel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSq_mCKY2P8
Kellen Jones looks much better on film.
January 22nd, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
I saw nothing except for that one play that looked like Ezeh. This kids attacks and has a knack for getting to the ball.
January 22nd, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
He is in high school; Ezeh was a senior in college. Sometimes if people have problems, they can indeed be fixed.
January 22nd, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
I really feel Ezeh could have been a heck of a LB, his only downside was the lack of a decent position coach.
January 21st, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
To set the record straight on why RichRod never went after this guy and never even offered him is because he doesn't know well the hell he is doing when it comes to recruiting DEFENSE and last time I checked, in the Big Ten you win with defense (hense why we couldn't win trying to outscore teams.)
Its irritating listening to you people talk about how good of a coach he is. If he was a good coach he would know how to recruit and how to fit his offense around his players (who tries running a spread option offense with Steven Threet and Nick Sheridan, OH YEAH RICHROD)! And also he would know how to develop the players in the program! And you may be asking yourselves why he hasn't found a job anywhere in America, its because he proved at Michigan he CAN"T win in BIG TIME college football. (BIG EAST IS NOT BIG TIME COLLEGE FOOTBALL)!!!!!!!! I have some insite for all you RichRod lovers out there, he is NOT our coach anymore, so quit posting on this site and go follow him to his next coaching failure!
GO BRADY HOKE!!!
January 21st, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
1. Read your comment before posting.
2. Do you honestly believe that is the reason RR has not found a job? There could be millions of reasons why he is currently not coaching at another program. You sound like "Razor Sharp."
3. Saying the Big East is not big time college football makes you sound like a moron. I'll agree it is not on the level of the SEC; it's rediculous to make such a large negative statement. So because RR coached in the Big East it means he is not proven? You cannot honestly believe that BH is more proven by his time in NON BCS conferences.
4. I don't think you understand sentance structure.
5. Oh, -1. Thanks
January 21st, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
Be "that guy" but if you're going to chirp someone on their sentence structure, you should probably spell sentence right....
January 21st, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
Don't be "rediculous." ;)
January 22nd, 2011 at 12:35 AM ^
No, thank you for being that guy. I hate when I do that. This baby is going back to the corner. :(
January 22nd, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
Rich Rod didn't need to offer him, he had enough of a defensive recruiting class coming most likely. Probably would have taken Hayes,Hart,Lucien,Fisher,Bryant,Miller,Posada,Tabb on offense and Brown,Hollowell,Countess,Crawford,Lyons,Frost,Jones,Morgan,Rock,Cooper, and Goudis on D/ST. That's a class of 19, about what he wanted. Could have pushed out a guy like Leach to gain a spot if necessary. Sousa might have come back with Tate leaving too.
