Why don't people give Tate his props?

I mean seriously look at his video. He outruns defensive backs and takes it to the house. He looks pretty fast. Not an absolute burner but more than fast enough. He's got good burst and good vision. He runs a 4.55 according to Rivals. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=89569&draftyear… http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=55584 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCENpiGgsN8 Give props when due! Dude is fast! Period. Tate is the future of Michigan. His arm is just too good.

I can name many that have. Randy Moss, Chris Johnson, Reggie Bush, Joey Galloway, Mike Bennett, Dennis Northcut is hella fast. I dont know about 4.3 but maybe. Mike Vick I think. Deanglo Hall. Those are just off the top of my head. But certainly more then 3.

Are you kidding with they are the only two? I guess Denard does. But for real. Reggie Bush did it OFFICIAL. Youtube it. So your point is already shitty. There have been way more then two people to do it. Mike Bennett has a tattoo on his leg of running a 4.16 or something. It wasn't official but im sure in his young days he could run a 4.3. LT runs an 4.3. So does Darren McFadden.

Do you notice a common thread amongst all these people? I do. They're all NFL running backs, cornerbacks, and wide receivers who trained in major college programs for 3 or 4 years before running their forty times. They're not high school kids. The majority of high school forty times are fake. Get over it. You lose.

I agree with Magnus (and most of the board) that forty times are cooked. So is height, especially in QB's. The only time that can be trusted is Robinson's legit track time last week. For those who don't remember, it was 10.44, apparently in or against a "strong wind," in the hundred meters. Obviously, track times don't translate to football speed, but neither do forty times. Tate's speed will be an interesting component. Will he lose that step of advantage he had on San Diego HS defenders? Will he look like Troy Smith trying to run away from Florida LB's and DE's and finding out that they were faster than he was? My guess is that he will be fast enough to be "shifty" and barely elude opponents long enough to get rid of the ball, and will be able to run just fast enough to keep the defenses honest. He will obviously be better than Threet and Sheridan were last year. Comparing his speed to Robinson's, though, is a bit of a joke. Forcier should be able to elude LB's and DE's; Robinson should be able to outrun most CB's. There is a big difference there. Before Feagin came in, I had heard that his forty times were definitely fudged. I didn't want to believe it, but its' not like he was the fastest player on the team last year. His injuries last year were usually cited as the reason he wasn't as fast as advertised. I wonder if that is truly the case? I don't think we will have that problem with Robinson.

He is tall and I watched him complete some passes during spring training. Plus think of all his experience from watching. Give props when due! Dude is sweet! Period. Coner is the future of Michigan. His arm is just too good.

Here's my issue with the original post: it assumes that you can project players based on their high school statistics. The argument is that Tate's speed + passing skills + high school completion percentage = the "future" of Michigan. Plenty of extremely high-profile recruits have flopped, notwithstanding their superior high school film. Of course, Tate may live up to the expectations, but it's certainly not a foregone conclusion.

Tate Forcier (or ANY freshman) to light the world on fire in their first year of college. It's not unreasonable to expect big things out of talented young players, but it IS unreasonable to expect it out of them immediately.

You can't throw out an exception like "Chad Henne was good as a freshman so Forcier will be, too" and not expect people to think you're an idiot. Oh, well, Michael Jordan got cut from his basketball team in high school, so I'll be an NBA Hall of Famer, too. Oh, well, Kurt Warner played Division XII football and worked in a grocery store, so Cousin Billy will be an NFL MVP, too. I am not saying Forcier will be bad. I really don't know. But if you were a betting man and you wagered on having successful freshman QB's consistently...you'd be living on the streets of Detroit playing an out-of-tune guitar and begging for people's leftover Pizzapapalis pizza.

Chad Henne was the exception, not the rule. Most true freshman quarterbacks struggle mightily -- even the highly touted ones. What about Mallet? Clausen? And Chad Henne was throwing to Braylon Edwards and Steve Breaston. Chad Henne had an excellent offensive line. Chad Henne... well, you get the idea. Are you actually comparing Chad Henne to Tate Forcier based on Tate's highlight film and a few spring practices?

As a SoCal resident, hella is a NorCal word, no one down here says that. I've literally heard McFarlin use it more than I've heard it out here in the few years I've lived here. Since the Forcier's are farther south than me, I doubt it. I think he's just a poser.

I must say that I find it quite comical how we have already taken our sides on who will be the starting qb this year. D Rob is not out of high school yet and some have made up their mind that he is the man while others have decided that another true Frosh who is there now but only a select few have seen is the man. I am chomping at the bit to get to Sept.5 so that I can sit in my seat at the big house and cheer for whoever gets the job, but at this point there is no telling who will get the spot and there is furthermore no sense in haivng the pointless arguements over who will get it. RR if you read this I would love to hear yuour input on this matter but other than that it is all nothing more than a guess (educated one or not it is just a guess from 99% of us).
