Friday Night Football Open Thread
Then at 8 EST is the Cotton Bowl between LSU And Texas A&M.
Post thoughts here as you try to forget that we don't have a coach 3 weeks from signing day. Oops, shouldn't have reminded everyone...

I am really impressed with Delaware's strong fundamentals. The receiver's pass was underthrown, he tried to get the ball, got tipped so he just tackled the DB. That really has to be coached. Even their tackling, they....tackle. A shutout in a NC game? pretty good coach(es)

Brian VanGorder -- Atlanta Falcons DC.

I'd take him

Didn't he used to coach at WSU? So he has some Michigan ties no?

He didn't play or coach here, but he's spent some time in the neighborhood, and was actually born in Tony Dungy's home town (and mine) right down I-94! Has been a head coach, assistant in major university program and now DC in a terrific program that's quietly been operating under the radar since the networks forgot to schedule them nationally. Hmmm... Do his parents still live here? Nice to bring all those grandkids home...
January 7th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
I was just sorting through DC's in the NFL and ran across his name. Looks like he fits what DB is looking for so I just threw it out there.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:05 AM ^
dude used to be my neighbor when I was like 7 years old and growing up in canton, used to coach at wayne state...

Is Les Miles going to be able to recruit the same student athlete he gets at LSU to Michigan? I know he's with the 49ers, but with Harbaugh we knew that he would be able to. I think that is a mistake we made with RR. Even if he can recruit them, will they even qualify? I know it's kind of a messed up thing to say that players in the SEC have a lower intelligence level, but yeah...
January 7th, 2011 at 10:38 PM ^
He is surrounded with so much talent, he has to oversign them just to keep up with the demand.
That does not happen at Michigan. That is a big concern with Miles, can he do it when they're not all 4/5 stars?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
Ton of PATs blocked in this game. Start of 4th quarter.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
E Wash is showing some life late. Down 6-19 and driving. Can 'Laware hold on?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:49 PM ^
I would love for Michigan to look like LSU does tonight. Big lineman and even the skill guys look big! No more slot ninjas at every position.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
I thought they would have hit it up much sooner. Reported the usual fluff from Les: "I've not been contacted" "I'm having a great time here, why would I leave?"
January 7th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
Yeah, the Jabronis on Fox made it sound like MIles was insulted that he's considered a candidate, mentioning that Bo was a young unkown coach coming out of Miami (Oh.).
January 7th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
Nice to hear the "Les Miles ain't interested" comments during the Cotton Bowl followed by the announcers agreeing that he would be nuts to leave LSU.
DB better have a big sleeve he's hiding something up inside of if we've got recruits deciding this weekend and no head coach.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:15 PM ^
January 7th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
1) M hasn't contacted me
2) I'm having fun here, why leave?
Contrast to the Pelini/Fitz declarative Noes. He had ample opportunity to tell them Nah, I'm not a candidate for the job. The rest is chatting around the subject
January 7th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
First off, I don't think Fitzgerald or Pelini were ever approached by Michigan. I think their names popped up in places like Brian's list of candidates and local reporters asked about the job and got the "I'm not going anywhere" responses you mentioned.
Still, contrast Miles's comments with Harbaugh running away from the microphone. A guy who says "I think they should hire someone else who isn't like me at all" doesn't sound like a guy I expect to see in Ann Arbor any time soon.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
I thought Moose said he (Moose) found it offensive how candidates with any connection to their past U's are assumed candidates, it disrupted the current team. Then separately Miles said in their talks M may not want someone like him, Bo was an unknown etc
But hell, I could have been scratching my balls and missed what you heard
January 7th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
I heard the young Bo comments as "If I was Michigan I wouldn't want to hire me." That didn't sound like something you say if there's any chance you'll take the job.
I could be wrong. I will probably be completely punchy until this thing gets settled. Hoping at Army game tomorrow or b-ball game Sunday. Otherwise it is going to be a long weekend of "LOL Michigan has no corch!" talk.
January 7th, 2011 at 11:48 PM ^
I thought the point of the "young Bo" commentary was that Miles was too accomplished for the job. That was the tone of the Jabroni announcer who said it.
January 7th, 2011 at 11:53 PM ^
or the Hatter's take?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:00 AM ^
Jabronis' take
January 7th, 2011 at 11:51 PM ^
b/c I thought 3) was him talking that he was about to go 62-17 over the last six years. In the SEC yo. After turning around a shit Oklahoma State program, during which he beat highly ranked Oklahoma teams in his first 2 years. MNC in there too somewhere, right?
January 7th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
January 7th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
That makes no sense whatsoever? Bo was hired young, thus, it's offensive to offer Les the job? Am I missing something?
January 7th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
January 7th, 2011 at 11:51 PM ^
I got that impression as well. Of course, these same hobos just said that they think the Cotton Bowl will soon become the bowl game that everyone wants to play in.

Is working on his "Holy sh*t we're blowing this game face".
January 7th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
Face perfected. A win for the vile red turfers.

20 unanswered points for EWU in the 2nd half. Looks like no Blue Hens will be coaching Michigan next year. 2:30 remaining.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:16 PM ^
Ha. a team that wear yellow and blue and winged helmets with kicking woes. Deja Vu.

Compliments of the Angry Winged Helmet Hating God.

Time to hide it away with the Little Brown Jug until it's safe to come out.
January 7th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
our Jug is safe.

I wish I were hiding away *in* the Little Brown Jug until it is safe to come out.

What an unfortunate turn of events. That game turned around quickly. I knew those early FGs would come back to haunt them.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
If K.C. Keeler wants to bring his defense to Michigan, I can suggest an offense. Its name is Denard Robinson.

2011 U.S. Army Player of the Year: DEMETRIUS HART. #usaab
:( Congrats to Dee Hart, I just wish you were still coming here...

Followed the link but I don't understand this tweeting nonsense. Who sent that to Dee Hart?
January 7th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
make me sad.
January 7th, 2011 at 11:57 PM ^
If you want Les to coach for U-M (if you don't, don't bother answering, no trying to debate that point here), do you want him to win this game? Moot point now, I realize, since it's a definitive beatdown, but since it is I'm curious if you think it helps us or hurts us? I can see it both ways.
For that matter, does the fact that it's such a beatdown help even more?
January 8th, 2011 at 12:02 AM ^
I don't think it really mattered. If he was willing to leave LSU three years ago, when they were on the brink of the national title, he'd probably be willing now. The question will be whether we want him or not.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:03 AM ^
LSU is talented, and, yes, well-coached. They took ATM's best shot, adjusted to what they did, and then shut them down.
