Moderator Action Sticky

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on

Brian has requested that instead of deleting each individual comment in the Moderator Action Sticky, that we instead just create a new thread. It takes hours of less time, preserves the comments for future explanations, and just clears things up faster.

You'll notice that the previous thread is now locked, and will slowly fade back into darkness. For the time being, the link from the Useful Stuff menu will point to the wrong location. We're working on a fix for that.

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

New Thread.

I just received this response from "wiper" to one of my posts in the "worst press conference ever" thread.  Clearly inappropriate, no?  I don't think my OP was all that inflamatory to receive this response . . .

well then..

fuck you.

Not sure if it's my place or not, but you guys might want to look into this guy.  I think every post in the last week has been about firing DB or hiring Chip Kelly.  None of his posts are insightful, and I fear he's trolling for responses.

Are there server issues preventing voting again for some people?  It seems that some can vote but I'm being blocked from doing so.

Thanks for everything during these very trying times.  Much appreciated!

i think the mods could make their jobs easier and not have to spend any time this week moderating if they took a solid swing at the top 20 posts and just flushed out anyone who makes a comment that's an obvious troll. such as the guy who said Hokedick, etc. don't care where people stand on the hire but Obvious Troll is Obvious

On the front page at that, so he shouldn't be hard to find.

I mean, he could get the dual slam for crass insults of Michigan's own, AND using a stupid nickname.

Though I wonder when someone is going to do something about His Dudeness's meltdown.  Doesn't look like he's even gotten a warning, and he's done nothing buy troll all week.

Question post by user: "Why is this okay: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-wasting-your-time?

Answer: It's not. We were on vacation, and the regular citizenry used the opportunity afforded to get a little unwinding accomplished.

FTR: "Who's your least favorite poster?" is not an acceptable meta topic for the board, but nor is a "personal" attack in and of itself when a least favorite poster is named. If someone says "dude, Misopogon, your posting sucks and your Dear Diaries are just emo whiney bitch crap," that's an attack on my writing, not me, si?

And by the way, the whole "this blog isn't what it used to be" bit was already old and tired back in whatever day you're thinking of as the time when the blog was what it used to be, unless "what it used to be" refers to the early Haloscan days when you went on blogspot and Brian or a guy from WLA was the only person to respond to you because literally 20 people read MGoBlog back then. I've been around consistently since mid-'07 and other than missing a few old regulars (Chrisgocomment, where hast thou gone?) it's better today in every single way.

Anyway, OP is fined 2,000 points since he's been around long enough to know that this wouldn't fly.

To be fair, this thread does fit Brian's documented exception.  The title was obvious and Scarlett Johansson is listed as the exception as well.

It's a picture of boobies!
Ever open a fifteen-post thread at work and get two different 800x600 pictures of impossibly fake boobs alternating for pages and pages? And then have your boss walk up behind you? Thanks, internet hero, for turning my idle surfing of a sports site into a firing offense! No one needs to see the same set of fake gazongas eighty times accompanied by your three words of deep insight into the team of your choice.

EXAMPLE
Go to Rivals and click on a thread.

DIAGNOSIS
Person is fourteen and has a constant boner. Likely to turn into a guy who says "stud" constantly after being rejected by women for the next ten to eighty years.

CURE
An introduction to life's harsh realities, hopefully beginning with a slap upside the head.

SUSCEPTIBLE FANBASES
Anybody with a site on Rivals.

EXCEPTIONS
Arguments about hot chicks are always welcome as long as denoted in the subject title and the specific purpose of a thread. Also exempt are pictures of Scarlett Johansson.

I appreciate you taking time to issue this declaratory relief (clarification).  For what its worth, I would consider an attack on someone's writing a personal attack since writing is all that we have in a blog but I definitely do not want to belabor that point.  I was not personally offended and was simply raising a point of clarification.  I hope I did not imply the "this blog is not what it used to be" meme - I do not feel that way and would not whine about it even if I did.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

May want to take a look at this guy - potentially caveworthy.  Unfortunately, I made the mistake of responding to him in a moment of passion.

In particular, his comment on the second page of the "10 predictions for MSU game" thread (referring to other users as "f@gs") is over the top (hammerworthy in my view; I absolutely hate that word, and it appears that others do as well).  Moreover, his sig makes his status as "troll" clear.

Joke-quadruple posting a topic just to put up NSFW pics...charles woodson does not approve.

Also: deleted comments on this thread related to several trolls/troll-like users who were caved or warned or weren't actually over the line.

Deleted the thread on Woodson's endorsement of labor. Have to be verrrry careful if talking about Wolverines and politics. This wasn't careful.

Also, those who got political in the thread got point-docks.

UPDATE: I should have known it would be re-posted. I left the second one (original person -- you did nothing wrong) and locked comments.

While OT stuff is OK, there's still a threshold of "things other people might care about" in terms of thread-worthiness.

Seth

In the future, e-mail a mod rather than post it here.

The guy you've been complaining about got the hammer; stop asking. Some people who had particularly contra-productive responses got docked.

Formerly, you can't be presently soon enough.

My job is technically to copyedit the FP and the diaries and write a weekly article. I help out as I can, so I can't promise quick turnaround. misopogon at att dot net.

Tim puts his e-mail on his recruiting posts, or did.

Please remember we have twice as many lurkers who come to this site for information as we do board members who might get a kick out of taking over the sidebar. Anything after [Adjective] for Denard (where you can put your creative ideas) gets deleted. Some of the ones before got unpublished. I think if you already commented in those you can still find them, but leave 'em off the board.

This was back in January but we all missed it.

OP asked why no Sarah Palin chants at the hockey game v Alaska. Because bringing up Ms. Palin on the internet always leads to such high-minded discussion...

Seth

April 7th, 2011 at 10:02 AM ^

Yeah, I've heard 'em. And technically it's topical for the blog because it's about the Michigan fan experience, which is what we write about on here. However I judged the value of a "hey, howcome nobody's doing the Sarah Palin cheer at Yost tonight?" versus having to moderate a thread with Palin in it and decided it really wasn't worth it.

Sometimes when we nail a thread we're thinking "damn that poster is on my watch list." Other times we're just like "eh, harmless thought but let's kill before unforeseen circumstances make things go bad." This is one of the latter.
