been one to jump on the "Michigan Man" stuff, but it would be nice to have more people on the staff with ties to the University, traditions, rivalries etc... I doubt it makes any difference, but I like the idea of having coaches who fully appreciate the rivalries with MSU, ND, and OSU. Robinson does not strike me as a guy who has that passion, but merely is finishing out his career as a coach, and found a good gig. I hope I am very, very wrong. There is no way this guy was top 5 when RRod first started searching (pure speculation), so once again we are finding that coaching at Michigan has lost it's luster a bit.

Also, I think we should extend this appreciation of rivalries to players. Fuck Donovan Warren as he is from Cali and doesn't know anything about our rivalries. Also, fuck all those players from Ohio and Florida, they don't know shit about being a Michigan man. And also, fuck Bo for being from Ohio originally, we only want people that were always here. Additionally, fuck all non Native Americans for being Americans, they don't truly understand what it is to be an "American Man".

One need have no ties to the school to get the rivalries. How many people come to this school from out of state with no ties to the midwest and come away hating Ohio State? Plenty.

I'm from the East Coast, and moved back after graduation. Since I'm on this site multiple times a day (worrying about a possible DC, when history is being made) I think that I appreciate Michigan history and the rivalries. The same is true for many, many out of state fans and alumni!

also, we have to assume that RR, having coached against this guy in the BEast for so long, knows his strengths & weaknesses more than anyone of us. maybe, of all the BEast teams, Cuse was the most well prepared team defensively but just didn't have the horses? and maybe RR saw that for 4 years? IDK.

for the assistant coaches is approximately $1.9 million. Someone did some math recently and the available money was roughly $275 - $300, which is about what McGee is getting as well, so it makes sense.

his 2 Super Bowl rings on every recruiting trip he makes or at least show every kid he recruits those rings. He is not as bad as everyone on this site makes him out to be. GR has more experience than any other candidate and he must have a good relationship and/or share defensive philosophies with RichRod. I think we will see multiple front defenses with him. I want this search to end so we can focus on recruiting

what is this "ohio state" you speak of?
look, people have to separate process from product. one can go thru a good process and have the product be dogshite due to things out of one's control (Rutgers being a bowl team, Miami coming back from 2000-on, the Syracuse facilities going down hill, USF doing well, etc.).
look at the specifics... can he scheme? can he teach fundamentals? maybe he can, but he can't recruit kids to Cuse from the SE, Cal, TEx, etc. the biggest thing is recruiting. i don't see any evidence that he is anywhere near a decent recruiter. and if so, well, WTF RR?

In his one year at UT he won a lot of their fans over because he schemed for every game, not just played the same ol' same ol' and he liked to blitz.
he has one year as a college DC to look at it, and it went well enough, so let's see what happens.

enjoy when people on the Internet think they know what a recruit is doing. The only person in here that I'd imagine has had any contact with any recruit is TomVH. Although, I did have a brief contact with Marvin Robinson in which he said if he committed early it would be after the MSU game. Obviously that didn't happen.

2007 was worlds better. Crable, C. Graham, Adams, and Englemon were way better than Evans/Thompson/Panter, Mouton (at the beginning of the year), S. Brown, Stewart/Williams/Harrison. App State put up 34 points on us.

as Chitown's post demonstrated, his best non-Denver year was that year at Texas. Hopefully we get that DC and not all the other years DC, which based on fact, is not inspiring.

I'm willing to give the guy a shot. He beat Notre Lame so he is okay in my book. It's Michigan, we should be able to recruit for ourselves. Can't be worse than our D this year.

You know, i realize there are a few major differences, but Roof was a horrendous head coach, but apparently a very good D coordinator. Everyone is on Roof's bandwagon now, but if we had hired him a year ago I would have flipped out.

Syracuse being a pretty successful program before Robinson's tenure, and one with some history behind it, they probably had a pretty good pool of coaches with very good resumes to choose from, all of whom Robinson beat out. I figure, that's what we ought to judge Robinson on, since that's the role he'll be playing, not head coach.

He was actually better at recruiting then the head coach before him if you go back and look at his classes they were all better then in the years previous to him even the year after the cuse went to the sugar bowl. also his defenses were better then before with the exception of that sugar bowl year mabye it was the previous coach's lack of recruiting that screwed him and not his own. Also his offenses sucked ass so that wouls also help the demise of the defense like what happened to michigan this year.

Well, I'm not thrilled, but I confess that my reaction is mostly based on his work as a head coach, which isn't all that relevant. As for how he did in the NFL, I don't know what to make of that; it's a different level of football. I trust RR's judgment, so I'm willing to give him a chance.

What I can gather about GR is that he is generally regarded (by those around the country and not on this board) as a good DC. The comments from his prior players and coaches are solid. He was not a good head coach, but I believe that being a head coach for several years at a D1 program (regardless of his record) would improve his ability as a coordinator in many ways. I'm a bit interested to see how this goes. I'm looking forward to reading the posts next season. I may even cut/paste a few comments from some of you in case you change your tunes.
