Notre Dame has been the butt of jokes for well over a decade. To say that their reputation as a football powerhouse hasn't taken a hit in the eyes of analysts and fans is just wrong. Other than some delusional Irish fans, NOBODY considers them to be an elite program anymore and haven't for quite a while now.
The way I've heard it put is that Rich Rod's spread-option offense is somehwhat to understand than some other offensive systems, but, it can be quite difficult to execute.
Nate Robertson will be replacing Armando Galarraga in the starting rotation. Armando has inflammation in his shoulder. He's going down to Toledo for awhile.
Until we are able prove otherwise on the field, Dodd is correct about Western having a better offense than we do.
We were awful last year. We have no idea how our offense will perform come September the 5th. This really isn't all that hard to understand.......
Actually,
This has been a very strong rumor for quite a while now. I believe Tom VH even said he had heard the same thing about JJ decommitting if he were asked to switch positions.
FWIW:
Doug Karsch said this morning that, after sitting in on a few pratices, it is evident to him that Sheridan makes fewer mistakes than either Tate or Denard. That's probably the biggest reason why he has a chance to play this year, especially early on in the season.
Okay.......
Devin Gardner will NOT be moved to WR for his first couple of seasons. I'm shocked that you would even think that's a possibility. That's NOT how you go about developing a quarterback.
Boeckman's star rating means NOTHING in this conversation. He played well as a junior in '07 and took OSU to the MNC game. He was benched in '08 in favor of a very talented freshman in Terrelle Pryor. I believe that Devin Gradner is in the same mold as Pryor or Vince Young. It is very possible that Gardner earns playing time as a true freshman.
I wouldn't count on Devin Gardner redshirting. Call me crazy, but, I have a feeling he will play as true freshman, not because Tate or Denard aren't good, but, because Gardner is just too good to keep off the field.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Ware said. Like it or not, five wins is very possible considering we are starting a true freshman at quarterback and have a defense that is one giant question mark at this point.
Some of you are just going out of your way to find reasons to bitch about the msm.
I really think those injuries slowed his development as a WR. He was a tough kid, though, for playing through them. It's pretty damn hard to run routes effectively on a pulled hammy.
FYI:
That "outdated" offense we used in the last five or six years of the Carr regime was, in fact, virtually identical to that of USC's. Steve Breaston was injured for much of his final two seasons at Michigan. He played through a hamstring injury for most of his junior year, I believe. That was the reason why he looked a step slower.
Collegiate players are unpaid amateur athletes and deserve to be treated as such. Professional athletes are paid to perform well and win. They are absolutely fair game for fan outrage and criticsm, imho.
I think even you would agree with this.
The problem with Fontes was that he had final say in player personnel matters, thanks in large part to his sucking up to Billy Clay Sr. Of course, he had a nasty habit of throwing his assistants under the bus, too.
The front office wanted no part of Andre Ware and tried desperately to convince Wayne that he would be a bust. Old Wayne-O wouldn't hear any of it.
The two biggest mistakes that the Lions organization made in the early to mid '90s were:
1) Keeping Wayne Fontes around for a couple of years too long
2) Signing Scott Mitchell instead of keeping Erik Kramer, or, signing Warren Moon.
Please, just put Greg Matthews back there to return kicks and punts (as he did back in the '07 season). He might not have the speed to break a long return, but, at least he can catch and hold on to the ball.
Chitown,
I don't think people realize that:
A) Trent was originally recruited as a Wide Receiver
B) Trent performed much better in '07 when Vance Bedford was his DB coach and not Scott Shafer
C) Trent probably would've been a better fit at Safety than at Cornerback
In any case, Morgan Trent does not deserve even half the shit that he has taken from fans. Our entire defense struggled last year, not just Stevie Brown & Morgan Trent.
It's a myth that the Lions offensive line was bad while Barry was here, at least for his first five or six years in the league. LT Lomas Brown and C Kevin Glover were both Pro Bowlers.
Not to nitpick, but, we as fans know next to nothing about what kind of a husband and father that Rich Rod or virtually any other public figure is.
(Of course, it's nobody's business, either.)
