OT - MLB All Star Game thread
This thread is for MGoBloggers watching tonight's MLB All Star Game. Will the AL continue it's dominant streak? All signs point to yes. For now, tune in for the first pitch at 8:45 on Fox.
EDIT: A few streams for those away from TVs tonight:

"Soul Sister" had no place and nothing to do with last night's doings. It made about as much sense as bringing a keg of beer to Easter Mass.
"You Are Beautiful", directed towards the 30 community service honorees, one for each team, that can very easily make sense. There's the (big) difference. The Glee tie-in, well, I'll just have to live with that.
Price is an awesome pitcher, but I thought UM baseball fans might enjoy remembering this
+1 for the memory!
Wow, Ichiro tracked that down in overdrive. Nice grab, especially since the sunlight seems to be screwing with tracking early on.
I put $1 on the AL, $1 on the under, $1 on Jeter to hit the first home run and $1 on Jeter to score the first run
What kind of poor excuse for a gambling addict are you?
...to Bob Sheppard.
...getting it done.
Would've knocked both guys in with a double. Just sayin'
I'm still trying to figure out how Boesch isn't an All-Star, but Omar Infante is
It's your 2010 All-Double Play game
What, there's no clips of Guererro getting beaned in the eyes, ears, mouth and nose? That would have completed the ridiculousness.
OH GOD, JOE BUCK... "Is that the cast of Glee that recorded that for us? It was? Thank you."
can't Joe Buck be more like Jack Buck. GAHH HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you think about Pettite coming in in the 3rd? Girardi plugging his guys in early, or does he deserve to pitch over someone like Lester (maybe), Verlander (probably), or Lee (definitely not)?
but I don't consider Verlander to be a probably... he only got on the team because Sabathia pitched Sunday. I know his numbers make him deserving but I wouldn't mind giving him the night off and avoiding a freak injury.
Agreed, freak injuries for OTHER AL Central pitchers, please. But good on Verlander making it, even as an injury replacement.
EDIT: Who wants to see Joakim Soria pitch the next 6+ innings?
but I wouldn't mind them accidently forgetting him in Detroit next time they're in town
I meant that Pettite probably deserves to pitch over Verlander, maybe over Lester, but definitely doesn't deserve to pitch over Cliff Lee. I agree with you, Verlander needs the rest, not the exposure.
replaced CC and then JV replaced Weaver
but Weaver is on the team... but I could be off on who JV replaced
Neither could pitch though, because they pitched Sunday. CC's replacement pitcher was Weaver, who was then replaced by another pitcher, I think it was Verlander. There is a rule that if they pitch close enough to the all star game, pitchers cannot throw in the actual game, so the managers get to pick a replacement.
Which brings up another question, why pick Weaver to replace CC anyway? They knew Weaver couldn't pitch, yet picked him, so he wasn't picked in the first selection process, but also was of no actual use to the team. Just seemed dumb, even thought Weaver should have been on the team in the first place, being arguably the best pitcher in the AL this year. Lee is probably better, but Weaver has more innings and a ridiculous K rate.
Holy 1968 strike zone, Batman. Bob Gibson thought that was a bit high.
Batting over pitching - I hope!
Jeez, at this rate maybe we WILL see Valverde in the 9th, assuming the AL can actually score.
Verlander's warming up
Might we see our all-star JV?
Braun Grandersons Hamilton, nice play
JV comes in and gives up a single to Wright on the first pitch
The Tigers couldn't keep Wright off base when they played the Mets earlier this season. The trend continues.
Way to bounce back, JV! Not his fault on the steal, Mauer chucked that ball into right center.
Calling it: JV gets the twin killing to finish the inning
Ok, I was wrong, but Verlander holds the NL to NOTHING, nice job
Nah, we gotta get a strikeout of the side now.
EDIT: That works.
I think he thought that one was gone.
Papa Grande countdown is at t-minus 4 innings
Here comes the AL....
AL up 1-0 on a walk to Longoria, then Mauer hit a chopper to the mound that Kuo airmailed over first, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cano hit a sac fly to left to score the run, then Mauer got erased on a groundout (and bad baserunning). Bell coming in now to face Hunter.
About time the NL gets a clutch hit in one of these...
...and our friends with the White Sox do all they can to hurt the AL's chances! Konerko "hits" into a strikeout-throw out double play and Matt Thornton gives up a two-out walk and bases-clearing double. 3-1 NL, top 7th, 2 out.
Nice going White Sux you've put your stamp on the game. What is it now 15 strait won by the AL? And the White Sux screw our chances for 16 strait. Here's to hoping your team without Peavy and your mouthy dickhead manager fall flat on your faces in the second half of the season!
He keeps saying "if you haven't heard of him" about relatively well known players. First Josh Johnson then Brandon Phillips and probably others that I can't remember.
Not much of a Joe Buck fan. Please tell me FOX's contract with the ASG and WS runs out sometime in the near future.
See, as a Cubs fan that sort of thing doesn't really worry us. Never does it count.
Keep your head up. 10 years ago who would've thought Boston or that other team in Chicago would pull it off?
Exactly! I just rooted for Cabrera, Verlander, Valverde, and Byrd to do well and I was happy. Being a Cubs fan takes out a lot of the stress in baseball.
Valverde is warming up, though he doesn't have a lead to protect. It would be cool for all the Tigers representatives to make it into the game, though.
EDIT: and here he is in the top of the 9th, he starts with a quick strikeout of Michael Bourn
EDIT 2: TWO strikeouts
EDIT 3: THREE, THREE STRIKEOUTS (ah ah ahhhhhh)
At least the Tigers represented well. Miggy 1 for 2, Verlander and Valverde 5 strikeouts combined.
Well, I got part of what I asked for. Valverde striking out the side and dancing off the mound.
Too bad it looks like I might have to root for Arod. Balls.
