OT - MLB All Star Game thread

Submitted by CalJr3000 on

This thread is for MGoBloggers watching tonight's MLB All Star Game.  Will the AL continue it's dominant streak?  All signs point to yes.  For now, tune in for the first pitch at 8:45 on Fox.

EDIT:  A few streams for those away from TVs tonight:

"Soul Sister" had no place and nothing to do with last night's doings. It made about as much sense as bringing a keg of beer to Easter Mass.

"You Are Beautiful", directed towards the 30 community service honorees, one for each team, that can very easily make sense. There's the (big) difference. The Glee tie-in, well, I'll just have to live with that.

What, there's no clips of Guererro getting beaned in the eyes, ears, mouth and nose? That would have completed the ridiculousness.

OH GOD, JOE BUCK... "Is that the cast of Glee that recorded that for us? It was? Thank you."

What do you think about Pettite coming in in the 3rd? Girardi plugging his guys in early, or does he deserve to pitch over someone like Lester (maybe), Verlander (probably), or Lee (definitely not)?

Neither could pitch though, because they pitched Sunday. CC's replacement pitcher was Weaver, who was then replaced by another pitcher, I think it was Verlander. There is a rule that if they pitch close enough to the all star game, pitchers cannot throw in the actual game, so the managers get to pick a replacement.

Which brings up another question, why pick Weaver to replace CC anyway? They knew Weaver couldn't pitch, yet picked him, so he wasn't picked in the first selection process, but also was of no actual use to the team. Just seemed dumb, even thought Weaver should have been on the team in the first place, being arguably the best pitcher in the AL this year. Lee is probably better,  but Weaver has more innings and a ridiculous K rate.

AL up 1-0 on a walk to Longoria, then Mauer hit a chopper to the mound that Kuo airmailed over first, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cano hit a sac fly to left to score the run, then Mauer got erased on a groundout (and bad baserunning). Bell coming in now to face Hunter.

...and our friends with the White Sox do all they can to hurt the AL's chances!  Konerko "hits" into a strikeout-throw out double play and Matt Thornton gives up a two-out walk and bases-clearing double.  3-1 NL, top 7th, 2 out.

Nice going White Sux you've put your stamp on the game. What is it now 15 strait won by the AL? And the White Sux screw our chances for 16 strait. Here's to hoping your team without Peavy and your mouthy dickhead manager fall flat on your faces in the second half of the season!

He keeps saying "if you haven't heard of him" about relatively well known players. First Josh Johnson then Brandon Phillips and probably others that I can't remember.

Valverde is warming up, though he doesn't have a lead to protect.  It would be cool for all the Tigers representatives to make it into the game, though.

EDIT:  and here he is in the top of the 9th, he starts with a quick strikeout of Michael Bourn

EDIT 2:  TWO strikeouts

EDIT 3:  THREE, THREE STRIKEOUTS (ah ah ahhhhhh)
