Michigan fails to make Top 8 for in state OT recruit Devontae Dobbs
Top 8: MSU, OSU, USC, Auburn, Oklahoma, Georgia, Clemson, and Florida State are the schools he will be focusing on.

Devontae Dobbs is the 10th ranked recruit in the nation and the #3 OT.

We won't know for a few years.
You're saying Logan Brown is overrated.
Many on this board think Dobbs is overrated.
And I've heard from inside sources that Spencer Brown isn't that good.
I think the bottom line is that OL take the longest to develop. It's easy to watch a high school game and not be that impressed by a big young OL.
My concern is that we are coming off a less than stellar recruiting class, and it seems like we have a lot of relationships in-state that need to be developed.
You can say the Belleville coach despises us. Ok, but why did it take 4 years to really get involved at West Bloomfield when their coach is an alum? I might be completely offbase here, but it does seem like the in-state kids are not a priority or we just don't think they're really that good.
I mean, if you live in Western Wayne county and read the Belleville Independent on a regular basis, you'd know that people were all about Dobbs in an area bounded by Van Born, Rawsonville, Haggerty, Hannan and Oakville-Waltz Roads. Elsewhere, I am totally not surprised that this has not been an issue to a large extent, especially as we knew it was unlikely for quite some time.
Let's not pretend here: This isn't good. Top ten guys in-state should go to Michigan if we're recruiting properly. "Not a fit for our scheme" isn't something that really applies to someone who's a 5-star talent--there's plenty of talent there to make it work. To not even be in consideration isn't good, and reflects poorly on us for future recruiting.
That said, we've known we have no chance with Dobbs for a long time. So he's not politely putting us on his list; like I said, not a great look for future recruiting, but otherwise meaningless. We knew he wasn't coming here before and we know that now.
The disappointment is priced into the stock.
When fellow recruits see that he's from the state, and doesn't have the in-state team in his top 8, they might think, "Whoa! He's FROM there, and not considering Michigan. What's up with that?" Sure, we've heard that his coach is anti-Michigan, and recruiters are going to do the REAL work one-on-one, but this social media stuff matters to recruits, and it seems clear that an in-state, 5-star (which matters more in recruiting that it does in game play, as the Kalis comments indicate) who rejects Michigan has a potential impact on other recruits.
I think that it DID have some positive impact when Hand and Harris listed Michigan. I never claimed that his Twitter post had anything more than SOME impact, but people who are a long way from being a 17 year old football player are naive if they cling to the belief that it has no impact at all on other prospects. These kids consciousness revolves around social media a lot more than it does for most of the poeple posting in this forum.
A lot of people get way too carried away with recruiting news, and you see many giddy posts when someone puts a Michigan logo in their "considering" Twitter post. So, if that's going to fly, then it's only fair for the hand-wringing nay-sayers (I'm neither of these, I watch with detached interest until they show up in a jersey) to be similarly concerned when someone in state does NOT list Michigan.
I know that kids choose their school for a lot of different reasons. And I know that some recruits are lost causes from the get go. I also know that I'm asinine sometimes. But I'm not wrong that social media endorsements or cold shoulders matter to other recruits, to one degre or another.
Kids coach has been in his ear about hating Michigan for 3 years (at least). That coach is an incompetent Personality vacuum. If not for this states School-of-Choice situation, the guy would be 4-5 every year. He has success because he recruits 7th & 8th graders. Creepy Jermaine is what we call him.
No matter what state a top150 player grows up in he may be looking for the path of least academic resistance on his way to the NFL and UofM is not considered that path. It's not even an issue of having the "smarts", as many are making a "smart" decision to maximize their chances at becoming a pro by dedicating more time to football and less to school.
Plus, isn't this a double edged sword? If keeping the best talent in state is the norm, does OSU get all the 5* in Ohio? UofGa. in Georgia? And top ranked Fla talent never leaves the America's wang?
Considering most years the State of Michigan doesn't produce a lot of top 50 prospects, I have no problem with the ones that don't want to go to UofM if it's not a fit, as long as we keep getting some players from more reliable recruiting areas that are a fit.
You make it sound like the University of Michigan "failed" somehow because a high school football player didn't grace us with being in his "top 8"? Seriously?
On to the next one.
obviously something gives .... not our way so this is positive. I trust the staff on this one. Bank it.
Biggest area of need in the entire program and there is not one but two 5 star OL recruits in the state and UM misses on both. I think it's funny how people don't think this is a big deal. I think it's even funnier people are convinced this kid is going to be a bust or has character problems. Talk about sour grapes.
If OL isn't the biggest need in the program what is. I never said any of these kids would come in and fix things next year, but if there were obvious answers already inside the program then they would be playing. Pretending it isn't important to sign recruits like this, especially in our own backyard, is completely delusional. As for your last comment, telling someone they should commit suicide because you don't like their sports opinions is the lowest of lows. Not surprised you're from Ohio.
now you tell me. great.
Kyle Kalis was a 5 star olineman. Worst player on the line in 16'. Patrick Kugler was the number 1 center coming out of his class and he was by far the worst starter from the line a year ago. I trust Warinner
Technically, Kyle Kalis was a 4* recruit. A high 4*, but I think only 1 service actually gave him a 5* rating.
There, I fixed the title for you
We made his top 10!
...if these clowns post about every player NOT going to Michigan.
But I guess we made Tre Mosley's top7 so that's some good news AND on topic!
Maybe you need to recognize that the reason a lot of these in state recruits aren't interested in UofM is they know the "fanbase" too well.
