Friday Night Adult Beverage, BBQ, and Bonfire Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

About to leave work, lots of long days this week and working tomorrow.  However, all is not lost, as when I get home it'll be time for some adult beverages, a lit BBQ, and then a bonfire on a beautiful night with the family.  Oh yeah, and the livestock.  They'll watch from the pasture.

Simple questions:  What's in your glass, what's on your grill/menu, and what's on tap for the weekend.

Spring is here, summer can't be far away,

Colorado dry cider (sourced from the now venerable1946 Frigidaire Kegerator), smoked AK sockeye (little left from last year's haul) and a nice weekend with my 94-yo dad here in CO. He flew 30 combat missions in WWII. If wx permits, he and I will be doing a little flying. : )

you flying in your mooney?   that's worth a picture, too.   i never asked my dad how many missions he flew in the P-51, and now he's gone.  he loved flying that plane.

i don't know much about cider, but i sure know about sockeyes.  wonderful eating.  will be up there with oldest son in a month.  looking forward to it.

Cessna 182. Not quite the "Cadillac of the skies" that your dad flew. What an experience that must have been. There's a P-51D at my home airport that is up flying often on Saturday mornings. I was fortunate enough to be in the pattern together a few weeks ago--and what an experience that was. After I landed the Mustang did a series of low level passes while I was lugging the hose at our self-serve gas pumps. It was a drudgery of love seeing that plane overhead likely well exceed the 250-knot speed "limit." Hoping something like that will happen for my dad this weekend. Enjoy AK with the eldest, BTW. Suspect you've been there, but if not, it is awesome.

would enjoy the details if you feel like sharing them.

as to AK, yes, have been going for close to 30 yrs.  two of my closest friends live there and we have had many a fun adventure.  looking forward to the trip.

Tell your dad hi and THANK YOU, from my wife and I! There are so few hero’s left from WWII and when I am lucky enough to see one, I always make sure to stop and say hi and thank you to those great men and women. You are truly blessed to have a great man like that as your father.

I'll pass it along. He doesn't get to buy many of his own beers any more. I think he's kind of mystified by it. Not that he doesn't appreciate it, but to him, he was just doing what needed to be done.

Now that our kids have graduated and are living on their own, we’ve landed on the Friday evening cocktail. Mine’s a manhattan and her’s is a martini. Chicken on the grill right now. Giants baseball tomorrow at the most beautiful park in America. Figuring out how to build an outside BBQ island on Sunday.

Eating Zingerman's bread of the month (Jewish Rye).

I am looking forward to trying Stroh's Perserverance as I love Founder's All Day IPA and their Centennial IPA. and even New Belgium Ranger IPA even though I once said I don't get what anyone likes about IPA.

I'm actually back in Ann Arbor for the first time in a decade for a wedding. Just finished several glasses of wine at the rehearsal dinner at Vinology, tomorrow's the big show. Fingers crossed the rain stays away.

Sipping on a Fosters All Day, no grilling, picked up Little Ceasars hot and ready to feed the happy hour guest and kids and looking forward to a Head Hunter later. Shout out to Ace, dude brings all kinds of great content and writing that we all enjoy to our beloved site. Hope he’s hanging in there and won’t be asked how many “weeds” he’s had the night before for a long ass time. Peace, bro.

Just left a serious crawfish boil and I am uncomfortably full after eating four enormous trays. I started the event with a couple Vieux Carrés which were phenomenal. I'm heading home to writhe on the couch while I digest.

Picked up a bottle of Makers and a nice Australian Shiraz on my way home tonight. Drinking some Maker's now.

Edit: also made a cup of coffee and poured a little whiskey in there as I needed to wake up before heading to the bar ;)

Had a Narganasett a relative brought back for me from Hilton Head. 16oz of pure enjoyment. Sorry, I enjoy regional beers from across the country over craft brews.

My favorite cousin died on Monday. Here for the funeral. He was like brother to me. Drank a toast to him at Big Grove Brewery. Hawks have been great to me. Wearing my Michigan gear, they still respect. Very warm here.

when you're up there later this year. He'll quickly go from "Cool Hand" to "Frozen Hooves Luke", that'll teach him a lesson! As for the other livestock, couldn't you at least have tossed a handful of graham crackers and marshmallows in their pen when they came in from grazing Friday evening? Geez, let them know you care---everyone who's ever spent time around a dairy farm knows that contented cows produce more milk with higher butterfat content.

I think I enjoy your posts more than anyone on this blog. Im a wannabe farmer. I’m drinking cranberry and soda water. I’ve had my lifetimes allotment of anything stronger.

also, good for you that you realized that mr. booze had run his course in your life and you let him go.

i'm glad someone enjoys the farming stuff. i don't want to be a bore and i hope it provides at least some entertainment to others whose lives are probably far removed from farming.
