OT - Who would you vote for Most Overrated Player?

Submitted by canzior on

Slow day..but curious. Who do you think is the most overrated player in a sport? Maybe not the entire sport, perhaps by position?

Also/Or...most overrated/dissappointing player coming into or going out of Michigan in any sport?

Maybe overrated isn't the right word, but I had high expectations for for D. Terrell and Edwards heading into the NFL.

For transparency, this was inspired my opinion that Brett Favre is the most overrated player in NFL history.

Phil Jackson - was given two generational talents to work with in MJ and Kobe, arguably three in Shaq, and was just along for the ride for a boatload of titles. He was smart enough to not try to overcoach then, and he just got out of their way. But let’s not pretend he was some uber-genius. He was incredibly mediocre with the Knicks, where he didn’t have GOATs playing for him. I could’ve coached those Bulls and Lakers teams to a few titles too.

Trent Richardson - sure, he was a warrior in the weight room, but he ran behind an OL in Bama that was nothing but first rounders. Then he went to the NFL and was one of the biggest busts of the last decade. Just another blown pick by the Browns.

As far as Michigan players go, I don’t know if this counts as overrated, but the most over-hyped player ever had to be Derrick Green.

The question posed is who is the most over-rated in any sport with no time limitations and the front page, 50 responses, come up with Derek Jeter and Brett Favre.

Jabrill peppers the man who could do everything but not one thing great. Maybe I’m just mad that he couldn’t stay one more year, or maybe it’s because he never was a part of beating Ohio. When he left I just felt like man Michigan should have accomplished more while he was here, and had no huge moments in big time games. Had the 1 pic but that was it. Yes I’m bitter but I just felt odd when he left like yea dude was a freak but just never got that like feeling where in ten years I’m going to be like oh yea that dude. Like the Desmond Woodson Braylon hart type feeling

Aaron Rodgers. Very good quarterback, but his fans often try to argue he is better than Brady and that he can be the Michael Jordan of football. He has been on talented teams with good defenses and still only has one Super Bowl win.

He may not be at the level of Brady or Jordan, but he has been one of the few elite QBs in the NFL for quite a while.   And really, no...the Packers have had fairly soft defenses for most of his time there.  Even the year they won the Super Bowl, their defense was good enough, but not great.  The Packers have been relying too much on Rogers, and have let other areas of the team get slack, hence the big shakeup this year.

St Thomas is probably the most accomplished qb of all time, but Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback I've ever seen play. Doesn't mean he wins every game, but if you're building a qb, you're taking almost every single one of his traits. Always keeps his eyes downfield, his mobility is a plus, he has a cannon, and is mazingly accurate. He also pretty much brought the back shoulder fade into existence. No other qb has their own throw!

The entire Ball family. Ugly shot, annoying, and overhyped. Lonzo is a good player but blown way out of proportion. The rest of the family has laid a goose egg.

Just found his career, as a whole, to be very disappointing. No bowl games. Big whiff on third down play Vs OSU at the Shoe. I think, not sure, 1 or two run backs for a TD. I found his career to be “incomplete” as a whole, if I was giving a grade.

Troy Aikman is easily the most overrated QB in NFL history.  He made the Hall of Fame based on his looks and because he QB'd the Cowboys.  He passed for over 20 TDs exactly 1 time in his NFL career, despite playing with a loaded offensive roster, including a great OL, top WRs like Michael Irvin and Emmit Smith.

Aikman's only real achievement was being in the right place at the right time to get drafted by Dallas.
