In-state recruiting rankings update
Both 247sports and ESPN have updated their rankings and in the class of 2019. For 247 their composite rankings have changed because of the change of rankings with other sites.
In-state 247 composite list says we have 2 five-star prospects ( OT Logan Brown #1 State and #9 Nationally, and OT Devontae Dobbs #2 State and #10 Nationally), and 7 four-stars.
For ESPN, the state has 1 five-star (Dobbs) and 9 four-stars, they once again rank Logan Brown in the top20 of their 300 at #19.
I find this to be interesting and wonder if Harbaugh and company are going to ramp up persuit of Logan Brown. He is and has been on the radar for a long time, but committed to Wisconsin while our season was on the downward slope after our loss to them. We are in dire need of tackles and he fits perfectly. Devontae Dobbs is considered good as gone, as well as top100 ranked MSU commit Julian Barnett. One top recruit that we do have a Very strong chance with is Mazi Smith, 29th ranked in the ESPN 300 and teammate of Logan Brown from East Kentwood. I can see him being a player that if committed early, we can use to sway Brown towards flipping.

Maybe the state just doesn’t have great players. Wasn’t it two years ago that we signed almost every state player that was worth anything?
You know what I don't understand? How did you not know how to spell 'coaches' in the first paragraph, but had an epiphany in the second?

As you can see from my points I don't post often and like I said in an earlier recruiting thread I have little inside insight. But I have a little information on 2 different prospects. The first is Logan who I don't think it would matter what any school did to presuade him he isn't going anywhere. He absolutley LOVES Wisconsin and wasn't very high on Michigan (regardless of balls).
However, Mazi another big time prospect who just took an official to PSU has Michigan in his top 3 with Bama and OSU. PSU was very high but not in his top 3 so it will be interesting how it plays out. I have heard great things about his relationship with Mattison.

love about Wisconsin? Great school, amazing city, great program as of late, great stability, and they have a long track record of getting OL to the NFL.

when recruiting GA would have been unheard of. Let's be clear I don't like war. This war is worth carrying into enemy territory. Michigan is shaking things up.

ok, just went back and watched Hudl on Spencer Brown, hard to argue with anything you say. He looks extremely athletic for an OT. Hope we have a chance to flip him.
I do find it very surprising where we seem to stand with a lot of the in state recruits. It seems that only a few we are really in on. I'm hoping it is due to one of several reasons: 1) The past coaches did a poor job of recruiting Michigan last year and our new coaches are working on making up ground and are doing so or 2) We feel likewe are in great shape with more national recruits that are better/high rated (still would prefer taking a fair amount of Michigan kids and not just hoping for lots of national recruits as that is a bit risky).
But its crootin' and we have lots of time to keep making up ground. A good season, beating our rivals, and the O-line developing under Warinner and we have no worries. But thats a lot of ifs.
I think the coaching turnover is having a negative effect. Coaching continuity is important for home state recruiting.
While I'm not one of those fans who panics aabout recruiting or ever think sthe rankings are the end all be all, recruiting has changed significantly, these kids are developing long relationships with the schools they ultimately pick. We've changed a lot of coaches in the last 3+ years under Harbaugh, some of these kids have been contacted by their 3rd Michigan coach for their position.
But, we'll get ours, probably a little bit of bad luck this year too. A few of the top players grew up Michigan State fans. A few others we aren't interested in, and a few others will be leaving the state. It's a shame because this is arguably the best year for the state of Michigan for recruiting in many years, maybe ever.
We'll be fine, the thing about recruiting Michigan is that you get a kid that is much less likely to leave the program than if you get a kid from Florida or California. They're close enough to the support system of home that they're more likely to be here ini 4 years. Strong Michigan football teams should have a core of kids from the Midwest supplemented with talent from the rest of the country.

Everything will be fine if UM win 10 games this year. There will be plenty of lineman to choose from. Another 8 win season will stall the program for another year or two.
Why is Notre Dame recruiting well? I am constantly confused by this. What do they have that M doesn't? crazy.
What metric are you using? For 2019 Michigan has a higher average rating than ND.
Catholic schools and catholic leagues tend to have a lot of talent due to their ability to offer scholarships and better programs to kids, they often recruit the best guys out of public school leagues in a lot of states. Catholics like ND, so they have strong recruiting connections to a lot of powerhouse high schools all around the country.
