OT: Blake Griffin is a Piston
Per Woj:
Clippers trying to free-up for Lebron?
Who (and what) would we be letting go?
Either way -- big (potential) news!
EDIT
From the comments, it's possibly quite the steep asking price: Bradley, Tobias, Boban, and our first-round pick.
EDIT #2
Per Woj, done deal:

Setting up for a move for Lebron is certainly what the local media seems to think in Cleveland.

Hell no -- no need to even compare their games. On injury history alone. Blake is snake-bit in the worst way.

I was reading an SI article on him early in the year. He works his ass off to try and prevent injuries, while also improving his game (like adding a 3-pt shot this year).
He makes progress and then, inevitably, something snaps or is broken.
And it's not going to get any better as he gets older, unless he defies medical science.

And now the Pistons want to take it over. Somebody thinks he can stay healthy. I sure hope they're right.

Kander, and yeah, that was basically all him. I forget who exactly, think it was Dice, who gave an interview that said basically he'd been written off by every doctor that looked at him and Kander fixed him up. That guy was an absolutely elite trainer.

It could be worse. He could have just been born old like Greg Oden.

Some players have a bad knee, or a bad back.
With Blake, he's like the guy from the board game Operation -- there are like 10 areas that you can't touch, some that haven't even been problems yet.

Griffin is signed through 2022 -- at $38 million a year.
Are the Pistons one piece away from contending? Um....no (unless that piece is a LeBron / Bill Russell / MJ hybrid who never gets tired or injured).
Griffin is an excellent player, but is *way* too injury prone. The Pistons don't need any more dead money. If I'm not mistaken, they are still paying Josh Smith.

Dang. I had to look that up because I didn't believe it at first. I guess I have to remind myself that he's only 28.

Heard it's a form of Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, a first-rounder and Boban Marjanovic to the Clippers for Blake Griffin

at least it could be interesting
January 29th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
Now.
I have NO CLUE what to make of this.
The Clippers and Pistons have agreed on a deal to trade Blake Griffin for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first-round and a second-round draft pick, league sources tell ESPN.

Agree - this smells like desperation and a last-chance idea on SVG's part. He's been fiddling and fiddling with the roster and nothing works. I thought the team they'd assembled this year was pretty good, but without Jackson it's been tanking horribly and even before he went down the cracks were showing.
If this Griffin thing doesn't work, 1) the Pistons are gonna be in cap hell for a while and Drummond is straight-up gone, and 2) SVG is toast. Suddenly, you're looking at much bigger roles for guys like Kennard and Stanley Johnson because the backcourt is shit on a shingle right now. And, uh, those guys haven't exactly lived up to any expectations. This twin-towers strategy is kind of a desperation heave if you ask me.

Is not really a pick. Those dudes pan out of a 100.

They probably would have been drafted or landed somewhere else.
I don't give them any credit for drafting someone that's not on their team anymore.

Oooh, wait... they've given up their 1st *and* 2nd round pick.
So they'll suck *and* have no picks for the future.
<Insert bold strategy Cotton gif here>

2nd round draft pick has very little value. You can buy those easily. Its essentially Harris and a mid 1st rounder for Griffin. No chance they were paying Bradley what he wants.
