Yes, you need someone who can swing the ax where it needs to go, without worrying about protecting any deep ties.

You want somebody who is willing to fire even Izzo and Dantonio if necessary, because that person doesn't really know all that much about them, and doesn't really care.

AD. He grew up in EL, played college baseball at Albion, cut his teeth at Oregon before becoming CMU’s AD and is now getting it done in Arizona. His wife is a MSU grad and oh yeah, they are good people.

The man who built MSU football, Biggie Munn, was a Fritz Crisler assistant for eight years before he was hired to be the head coach at MSU.  Grabbing a Michigan man didn't turn out too badly that time.

This Crain's guy is just throwing out the usual suspects.  He doesn't have any inside info as to who is going to be considered because no one knows.  I strongly suspect MSU will be under such severe heat that they will hire an outsider who has no ties to MSU or any B1G school,  It will be some well respected academic with impeccable character and integrity.  He or she will not care a hoot about athletics and as a result, I fully expect both Izzo and Dantonio to be "retired" within the next 12 months.  MSU sports will be deemphasized and they will serve their purgatory as a mid-major level football and hoops program for the next 5-10 years.  And deservedly so.

The Real Michigan Difference is when we went through this after the Fab Five scandal and served our ten year penance (the Ellerbe/Amaker years), every U-M alum I knew were ashamed of what occurred and thought our program deserved to be punished.  My MSU friends that have texted me over the last few days are describing this as a Disney/ESPN vendetta against MSU and are mainly worried that either Izzo or Dantonio will be let go.  They have no remorse or think that their head coaches deserve any punishment.  And what has occurred at MSU, including in the football and basketball programs, is more serious than Mayce and Jalen being paid by some boosters.

That is the Real Michigan Difference.
