The MSU Dam is Breaking - Trustee Calls on Simon to Resign

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

I know we've been following this closely, moreso b/c its MSU, but maybe Simon isn't going to survive this after all.  Per a just-released article on ESPN, MSU board member Mitch Lyons said:

"I do not agree with our statement of support for President Simon," Lyons said. "As I expressed repeatedly to fellow board members during our discussion Friday, I don't feel that President Simon can survive the public outcry that has been generated by this tragedy and even less so after hearing the testimony of these brave survivors of Larry Nassar's abuse. I feel that our best recourse is for President Simon to resign immediately."

The first victim to disclose this abuse had this to add:

"No one at Michigan State has listened since 1997, and still no one is listening. It leaves me so concerned for that campus and for little girls everywhere. If they are unwilling to listen, this is not going to change."

Maybe some more heads will roll.  Seems like a lot of people should be out of a job and looking for defense counsel on this.

Bad Ju-Ju all the way around.  Perhaps justice is headed to MSU.

Don't care where Nassar is from. Anyone aiding or covering for this atrocity should pay for it. These things ruin lives, and there is just way too much of it going on.

Just bear in mind that Mr. Lyons expressed concern is about "public outcry", not student safety, accountability, or anything relating to fixing the roll MSU's administration or staff had in perpetuating the climate which permitted these abuses. He's just responding, in a political sense, to a week's worth of heart-rending testimony on the part of victims. Thank goodness the Judge allowed all of them to offer their testimony, as it appears that dammed-up sewage needed a lot of dynamite to dislodge.

Well hallelujah!  Someone on the MSU BoT finally ordered some common sense from Amazon Prime.  WTF took so long. The entire Board needs to resign as things are seemingly going from bad to worse.

“I have been told it is virtually impossible to stop a determined sexual predator and pedophile, that they will go to incomprehensible lengths to keep what they do in the shadows.”

I lost all respect and confidence in her after that ill informed statement.

See the following open letter by Rachael Denhollander to LAS refutting her statement. A must read!

Is devastating in her analysis of what happened to her and the other Nassar victims. The board of trustees needs a complete housecleaning, along with LAS and AD Hollis. None of these people is talking about student safety and making changes to see this never happens again, which is the only correct response to this horrific situation.

He's calling for her ro resign but don't they have the power to fire her? Wouldn't they have justification for doing so? If this were a coach or AD, they would have been fired already.

She reports to the BoT and serves at their pleasure, yes.  But it was, at least, a majority vote that she stay in place.  His statement said he doesn't believe she can survive the public outcry - it said nothing about whether she's handled this issue nicely.  She hasn't.  They haven't.  His words are nothing more than window dressing to save a little face.  He is scum...

This could very easily happen again, at MSU, because the president and others created a culture that permitted this, and they obviously haven't changed at all. Nassar is a monster, but he committed crimes in an environment that let him go unchecked. They allowed him to hurt countless girls for decades and are guilty of extreme negligence.

I believe she's been president for 17 years and been at the place for thirty or more in one capacity or another.

This is a prime example of why real universities term limit their president and deans and don't allow these cults of personality to form.

My wife had the same thought, at that level it is unheard of for someone to be at one place that long. She basically graduated from MSU, got a job there and has been there ever since and as president for almost 20 years.

As has been stated after izzos and d’Antonis statement, the amount of dirt she must have on everyone there has to be astronomical thus no one wants to stand up to her.

She should not be allowed to resign. She should be fired and charged criminally, which will coincide with the multitude of civil suits she will be facing.

Funny, but Lyons himself should also be ousted. He went public with a whistleblower issue and was recently charged with assault in Jackson. No faith in him and as a lifelong Republican, he won’t get my vote again.

Judging from how this stuff usually plays out, I'm fairly certain that Simon is going to be fired or will resign of her own volition...it is simply a matter of time.  The University will be paying millions in legal fees and restitution soon, and they need at least one scapegoat.  The trustees don't have the nads to go against her now, but they will be forced to grow some soon and that will be the beginning of the end.

Upon her resignation/dismissal, a new leader will be brought in who promises to change the culture of the University and he/she will institute a one strike policy that will make it difficult for Izzo and Dantonio to operate in a "business as usual" mode.  The football team sexual assault trials will be the last straw for Dantonio.  They will begin soon after this Nasser mess and Dantonio will feel enough heat to retire due to "health concerns".  The University will publicly support him, but behind the scenes, there will be arrows flying all over the place.  Recruiting and on-the-field performance will suffer greatly as a result of the MSU academia having a greater say in terms of admissions and disciplinary matters.  It gets real old quickly when you constantly have someone looking over your shoulder and you have to explain and justify every single action and decision you make.

The basketball team is going to be affected in a similar fashion and this season just might be Izzo's last hurrah.  His recruits will have to be able to meet more stringent academic requirements and this doesn't fit well with his recent model of recruiting one-and-done players who don't care a lick about actually attending classes.  I really wouldn't be too surprised if he announced his retirement after the 2018-2019 season.

God bless the University of Michigan and those that sweat and bleed Blue!
