Everyone is so against this . The lions job is actually a pretty good one. And yes Martha ford is a good owner, she’s not complacent like her husband was .

Who would like to write his head coaching obituary? Over before it started.

I think it's a good hire, I just hate the lions. So I like to troll Lions fans every chance I get ;)

I have a sinking feeling we are stuck with Drevno. He would have been let go by now if he was getting relieved of his duties.Pep is still out there recruiting, so Harbaugh must have plans of retaining him also.

I wonder if the progress Drevno may have been making with the O line wqs thrown for a loop when Frye wqs hired? When we went back to being "power" dominant we look pretty good. Amd that is Drevno's wheel house. In Harbaugh's efforts to diversify the O, I wonder if it didnt have the reverse effect? We have had a lot of turn over with offensive pay calling and staff and at some point maintaining some consistency has to matter. Our strongest position (d line) has had the same coach (Mattison) for at least 5 yrs. Probably not a coincidence both from talent acquisition and development, this group has been our best.

He's had 14 years working with (maybe objectively) the best football coach in history. He knows both offense and defense - he's run several different groups for Belichick. He has experience working with nuclear submarines. He has excellent taste in tee-shirts. The only knock is that he's never led a team at any level. If the rumor ends up being true, it's a coup for the Lions. They have talent, but you can't keep ignoring the run game (even with Stafford and that arm of his). A change was necessary, but they can compete right away.

The Lions have been doom and gloom for years but I prefer to be optimistic. This guy is super smart and works his ass off. He has been immersed in the most successful NFL football operation ever. He has an understanding of all facets of the game and the process to make it work. He has a good relationship and like mind with the GM. He inherits a winning team with a veteran QB who is one of the best in the league. I think this is the best situation we have seen the Lions in my long miserable fandom. Lions fans should be supporting this.

Patriots fan here. I honestly can't say whether this is a good hire because I don't know where Belichick's influence ends and Patricia's begins. There's no doubt that Patricia has been a part of the formula in making lemonade out of rotten lemons. The talent level of that defense hasn't been great and every year, it seems like Patricia and Belichick get more out of them as the season goes on.

I'm very happy to see Patricia get a chance. He's a smart dude. Went to RPI and has an aeronautical engineering degree.

My only question is knowing if that statement made he wanted to be a Giant vs A Lion is true? Today I don’t and could be media bullshit.

I know Detroit isn’t a dream job for many but I would want to know someone would want to be here. It’s not like the cupboard is bare.

In the end happy and excited for this hire.

Seems like a good hire. I feel bad for the guy, though. Has any Lions head coach ever gone on to be a head coach anywhere else? I can’t think of one, at any rate. The Lions are where coaches go to grab the cash they can, while they can, and then go into obscurity.

Wasn't in favor of anyone being fired this year - maybe recruit for some key positions like OL and DE.  Not much to do now but wait and see how it goes.

At least the beard might be somewhat intimidating to opponents...

A nice pickup for the Lions. And don't let people say the Giants didn't want him - they did, but that team has a number of issues with roster construction that I could totally see a coach not wanting to deal with.

I’ve been lions free for 3 years. Made a bet which would require me to buy season tickets if the lions hire Patricia and sign L Bell. Not sweating yet but it’s a start.

It’s the Lions, and I’ve been a fan my whole life. Would love to see Patricia hire an A+ staff before I get excited.
That said...who is a better candidate? I don’t see a better option out there. I get the naysayers with the Belichick tree and Lions doubters, but Patricia looks like the best possible scenario.
