OT: Lamar Jackson declares for NFL

Submitted by Magnus on

Louisville QB Lamar Jackson declared for the NFL Draft early. I'm very curious to see how he does at the next level. His stats this year:

59.1% completions, 3660 yards, 8.5 YPA, 27 TD, 10 INT
232 carries, 1601 yards, 6.9 YPC, 18 TD

Is he Cam Newton, DeShaun Watson, Michael Vick, Pat White, or someone else? He reminds me of Vick more than anyone. I think he'll have a decent career, but I'm not sure if he can pass well enough to be a superstar NFL player who takes his team to the next level.

You sound like a fool! The kid is more gifted than most of the QB’s in this draft. The only real knock on him is that he’s “athletic”. If you watched the whole season, he outperformed Darnold in the pocket. Lamar will get drafted no later than day 2 as a QB

This is rather surprising to me, unless he just wants to get out of Louisville and get a paycheck ASAP. From the few Louisville games I've watched this year (mostly against good competition), he does not make great passing decisions under pressure. Sure, he can scramble well and CAN pass well at times, but everything I've seen suggests that 1 or 2 more years to develop are needed. Of course someone will give him a payday, but that does not mean he will be a relevant game piece anytime soon.

What I always forget about Jackson is he isn't some little guy.  He's 6' 3", 215lbs.  He's not Cam Newton, but he's certainly tall and big enough to play QB at the next level.  Will be interesting who takes a shot at him; former UL QB Teddy Bridgewater went pretty high and was solid before getting hurt.

Honestly I watched him and Darnold(totally overrated)a ton this year, and Lamar looked like the better QB outside of the Clemson game(bowl game too). He can spin it, also looked better throwing on the run as well which allegedly is Darnold’s best attribute.
