Harbaugh ranked #1 NFL HC candidate by 45 analysts
And so it begins. I guess at least they put his face in the upper left of their front page picture, instead of directly in the middle. So we got that going for us, which is nice.
1. Jim Harbaugh: 95 points
Current job: Michigan Wolverines head coach
NFL experience
Former 49ers head coach (2011-14) In Harbaugh's one NFL stop in San Francisco, he took over a 6-10 team and went 44-19 over the next four seasons -- which included a heartbreaking three-point loss in Super Bowl XLVII.
Before that, he inherited a 1-11 Stanford team and went 29-21 over four seasons.
Most recently, he inherited a 5-8 Michigan team and has gone 28-11 in the three seasons since.

Wait. If he's a chronic underachieving blowhard who can't beat his rivals at the collegiate level, how can he be a legitimate NFL candidate?

PLS RAISE POINT TOTALS FOR POSTING OR OTHERWISE PROVIDE A GRACE PERIOD FOR NEW ACCOUNTS. OR JUST LET THE TROLLS MODERATE. WHATEVER WORKS.

He's been around a LONG time. Just not very active and I dont know why this post has everybody's collective panties in a wad - it's definitely postworthy (IMO) even if we all think it wont every happen.

You make a tired point that adds nothing to the board, which is what trolls do. And your low point total suggests troll. And trolls shouldn't be allowed to post here.
I can't see your jorts, but I'm guessing MSU.

How is this news?
January 3rd, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
Dude, did you even read the article? The very first paragraph states that the poll is for experts to determine who they would hypothetically choose if they had any choice at all. The only implication that the coaches listed are actually candidates for current vacancies comes from the timing. The majority of any correlation lies exclusively with the reader assuming that the two are related. If one reads the article with the perspective that a bunch of NFL experts chose the top non-NFL coaches who'd be good fits in the NFL, it reads well and makes a lot of sense (the random factual error/typo nonwithstanding). And you know what, having the most coveted non-NFL coach as our head coach is pretty great, especially since we know he's staying with us!
WRT your ad hominem attacks on the OP, maybe you should stop being a bully. OP has a low pt total, but has been around for 6+ years. That's an awfully long con for a troll. Stop being a dick for no reason.
January 3rd, 2018 at 6:27 PM ^
I'm not being a dick for no reason. I'm being a dick because the troll is regurgitating the same shit that we've all raged about for the past few days. In terms of the NFL issue, it's been going on longer than that.
How in the hell is this article adding anything new to either issue? Is this blog a forum that celebrates old news repeatedly?
So, no "ad hominem." But thanks for going ad hominem on me.
January 3rd, 2018 at 6:35 PM ^
You calling a guy a troll doesn't make him a troll. I actually looked through OP's comments from the past year or so, and I found nothing that would mark him as such. If anyone is trolling at this point, its you.
As MGrowOld said, he posted an article that has some information that adds a bit of additional context to the current discussion. If you actually read the article for what it is, as opposed to the narrative you have built up in your mind, you'd understand that there is no implication that Harbaugh is going to the NFL - he is merely the most coveted non-NFL coach. Is it similar? Yes - this is the news cycle, but it's not the same. As tiresome as it may be, and while you have every right to downvote it, being a dick because you yourself are frustrated is well .. really dickish.
January 3rd, 2018 at 6:41 PM ^
I'm being a *dick* because it's too easy for users to repost links to old articles and topics. Virtually anyone with an email address can give us an OP. If you enjoy this sort of non-content, that's great.
January 3rd, 2018 at 6:48 PM ^
Well, then start a META thread or email Brian/Ace/Adam with your greivances. I agree that there are some trolls that need to be squashed, and yes I do feel that in general, posters who have less than 1 year of tenure and fewer than say 500 pts should not be allowed to start threads.
But falsely calling OP a troll because you don't like content that he shared pretty much without opinion (which is not really old - the article was posted today, and has Harbaugh's face and the block M plastered on the front page of one of the largest sports websites in the world) is extremely dickish, and is counterproductive to rooting out actual trolls.
January 3rd, 2018 at 6:54 PM ^
JFC, I'm not the only post that thinks he's a troll. Great - he's lurked since MSU week in '11. But whether he is or isn't a troll, this is yet another bad OP by someone in the 100pt neighborhood. This shit is less likely with more posting experience.
January 3rd, 2018 at 7:00 PM ^
Someone else calling OP a troll without evidence because you posted that he was a troll isn't confirmation - its called circular reasoning.
I'm fisking you on this because I despise actual trolls as much as anyone else, and you shooting off, calling people trolls simply because you don't like them makes caving actual trolls a lot harder. It adds noise for the already overworked mods to have to sort through and slow the process down for them.
If you can provide actual evidence from OP's posting history that labels him a troll, I'll happily retract any and all statements I've made in OP's favor, and will go and downvote every comment he has made.
January 3rd, 2018 at 7:23 PM ^
The OP is probably a great person. But the low point total is the biggest problem. That's how we wind up with tired topics. And since trolls have low point totals (and post tired topics) I (and others) called him a troll. Probably because we're sick of the trolls. You don't think he's a troll. I get it.
I can deal with something that is critical of our current regime. But if you're going to cut/paste links to ESPN, share something new. Tell us why this is significant and different from the 30 other posts on the same topic. Is everything that mentions Harbaugh as a NFL candidate necessary for consumption here? Or is this article special because its on the WW Leader? As such, another dude's opinion of coach names who would be *good* NFL HC candidates?
I'd be more interested in this topic if the article legit mentions him as a candidate for a specific job. But, naw. Hot takez. Let's read 'em.
January 3rd, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
I think the fact that 45 different analysts believe that he is the #1 candidate is new and interesting. At least I find it to be. Thank you, OP.

Don't tell me what to click. And my points are not fake. They're real. And fabulous. For what it's worth, I'm not the only one to think that trolls lurkers should have more experience before they post.

I'm pretty shocked to be honest. He would probably do very well in the NFL since he's not one of those rah rah gimmicky guys unless it's a rivalry. The Bengals might actually beat the Steelers and the Ravens if they had him.

Not even a single vote in the full results section.
Others who at least got a vote:
Byron Leftwich
Katie Sowers
The HS coach who never punts
Rex Ryan
Jim Caldwell

Nah, Dantonio would be a Greg Schiano type in the NFL.
January 3rd, 2018 at 5:32 PM ^
He would be at the top of the list no matter what his record was at UM. He wins the National Champrionship and all the blow hards will say he is ready to move on. Down year..he's ready to move on. I think this topic should be expected as long as JH is here, similar to how there is always some theory that Saban has a foot out of the door at Alabama.

The talk about Harbaugh going back to the NFL has started, and it will never end as long as he's here. Get used to it. He may not get any actual offers this off season, but they will come, there's no doubt at all. Some time in the next few years, an NFL team will start pursuing Harbaugh seriously, he won't turn them down flat, and then all hell will break loose here.

(but didn't downvote) In addition to what someone a couple posts down notes about his personal life, JH realizes that rebuilding the Michigan program means having buildings named after you and a statue out front of the stadium. That's not gonna happen running an NFL team for a few years until they force him out due to personal conflicts or whatever bullshit they have.

The "college media" love OSU and Urban. May of them wanted a 2 loss OSU over Alabama.
