More bad news..... ( not really bad, just sad) ND related

Submitted by klctlc on

I believe yesterday's win by ND and M's loss gave ND the all time winningest % in CFP.

This was pointed out by some of my friendly Domer friends here in Chicago.

I was than less than kind in my response, but I did promise them we would take the trophy back next year in South Bend.

God I hate ND.

I actually changed it to add the ND part, that would have been even worse. I will update.  Sorry guys/ladies.

The whole post, was somewhat tongue in cheek.  But for some people the winningest program does mean something, the whole history of M football has value.  It does not help in current conversations with MSU and OSU fans, but hopefully that tide starts to change.

I am with Brian and even Magnus on my overall feeling about this season.  Yes it sucked. Especially after the MSU game where my family had to leave the house because of my swearing and throwing things and my dog was huddled in her cage because of the general noise.

I am not always a glass half full guy.  But i still believe Harbaugh will get it done.  He just has suck a good track record and he should have his first real (where he has two GOOD options) QB competition.

As bad as yesterday was it still does not compare to the despair and hopelessness of RR and Hoke era. It just does not.

Now if we are 8 - 5 next year and lose to ND, OSU and MSU??? I don't think harbaugh is going to get fired, but the conversation will not be absurd ( it is right now)

Really? Going to brag about or worry about win percentage? Was Notre Dame playing in the B1G conference anywhere in the past one hundred and some years? Nope, pretty sure they were never allowed in and had they made it in, their win totals and win percentage would be less. They would never be able to compete in the conference like they do now or had in the past. Prime examples are Penn State and Nebraska. Two blue bloods of college football by many peoples standards and what happened to both of those teams when they joined? Got their asses smoked year in and year out for the most part. Fuck Notre Dame and the smoke and mirrors they put their lipstick on in.

I'm beginning to think a team that doesn't cheat its ass off can't win a championship. Look at the latest winners , USC we know how that turned out, Bama enough said, OSU see Tyrell Prior, Clemson talk to Rashan Gary about them, LSU ask Llyod about the Mad Hatter on the recruiting trail, OK watch the 30 for 30 on the Switzer and Dupree, Miami again see the 30 for 30 Florida see above Urban Meyer and Georgia all of a sudden has become a player in the  years with another Saban guy. FUCK

Here's another fun fact about ND! This one's real good. Yesterday in the Citrus Bowl against a quality LSU team, ND put in their backup QB (On PURPOSE!!) and rallied them for the win. Cant make this shit up.

Good lord, who the hell cares. I thought it was going to be actual bad news...

"Najee Harris announces transfer to Notre Dame, declared immediately eligible"

Something like that.

That being said, I'm relieved it was just this bullshit.

This seems like the type of thing that only an irrelevant program would care about? Which don't get me wrong, we are pretty close to that in the grand scheme of things at the moment.

19th in winning percentage and 19th in total wins since our last national championship in '97  Right behind Louisville in both categories.

Comparing what teams are around us in those categories we are peers with Utah, Louisville, Auburn, Nebraska, and PSU.  Not bad programs, but certainly not the cream of the crop the last 20 years.

What is the relevance of 1950 as a starting date?  It includes our two worst decades (the '50s and '60s) while cutting off one of our best (the '40s).  If you want to make our program look as bad as possible, I guess that accomplishes it, but I don't see why football in 1951 is more important than football in 1949.

I'm not a fan of cherry-picking this stuff.  Stick to the all-time records.

somewhere between the end of ww2 and MSU joining the big ten in 1953 is a reasonable line to draw between the modern era, and pre-modern era of college football.

1950 is the last year that an ivy league school claims a national title, that seems to be a milestone since they dominated the pre-modern era.  Also service academies were dominant programs before ww2 and post ww2 they morphed into their currrent state.

In the 1950s, most teams didn't offer athletic scholarships.  (MSU did, which was a significant advantage for them.)  It wasn't very "modern" of an era by our standards.

All the cherry-picking is dumb.  The game's always changing.  If you care about historical records, go from the start.

Well to be fair 1950 draws a nice line between the Yost through Crisler era of program and the Bo through current era.

We won 10 national championships before 1950, and we've won 1 since.  Considering 1950 is almost 70 years ago it makes sense to split the program into those two distinct eras.  The era of Yost, pre 1950 and the era of Bo, post 1950

If you prefer Michigan is 6th in win pct and 5th in total wins since 1969.

However I like 1950 since it follows major changes in the college football landscape, especially the addition of MSU to the big ten.  This is a major moment that impacted Michigan.  And it should be noted that since MSU joined the big ten Michigan is 36-27-2 against MSU.  That is a 57% winning perctentage since MSU has been on an even playing field.  Much closer than the overall record of 69-36-5 would have you believe.  It is bolstered by our 33-9-3 record against Michigan agriculture college.  We are never going back to those days.

For the love of God, can we stop talking about all time achievements? No one gives a fuck. Honestly they should take down every single banner in the practice facility and Schembechler Hall until a new team does something to earn a new one.

Not that we should ignore or hide from our issues but who really wants to sit around and talk about shitty stuff. If you find people avoiding small talk with you at a party this may be a hint.

Michigan and ND both need to go back to grass football fields. I read something a few months ago but I can't remember where. Supposedly Michigan is going to replace that crappy ass field turf this offseason. I'm hoping they go back to a grass playing field but from what I hear it's impossible because of the drainage issue at the Bighouse.

I was looking at the Refs for Notre Dame games and

They have the same 5-6 refs doing all their games every season.

Found that to be of interest based off the wikipedia page

"but I did promise them we would take the trophy back next year in South Bend."

The day after this program goes through another of many national embarrassments you're out making sure to spread further embarrassment on everybody's part. How about you stop making boisterous claims and act humbled?

Fake news.

Michigan's all-time record is 943-338-36, with a winning percentage of 72.914.

Notre Dame's all-time record is 906-324-42, with a winning percentage of 72.877. Lower than Michigan's.

If you take take away Notre Dame's vacated wins from 2012 and 2013 its record is 886-324-42, with a winning percentage of 72.422.

Seems like they appealed the vacated wins awhile back. They are technically still counting them until the NCAA rules on their appeal. Not sure what is taking so long. It shouldn’t be that complicated but it is the NCAA so I am not surprised.
