1. Hoops Ups and Downs

starts at 1:00

Jordan Poole is going to be a joy. Putting too much on Charles Mathews to carry the team on both ends. MAAR is in a bit of a slump offensively but he kicks it better than he used to. Wagner is heating back up. Robinson will come back. Is Livers in line for the midseason Beilein light to go on? Texas: we’re gonna feel sad about missing Mo Bamba; big chance to change the trajectory of the season. Down year in the Big Ten.

2. The Mississippi Trio

starts at 33:24

Shea Patterson: We think he’s more of a Tate Forcier, or ceiling of a Johnny Manziel minus the off-field issues. Didn’t see a five-star quarterback, definitely don’t think he’s going to be a shoe-in to replace Peters. It’ll be a competition, but Peters has got to be the favorite. Van Jefferson is the son of an NFL receiver, and pretty productive/polished, would be immediately helpful. Deontay Anderson is big and athletic, another bullet in the safety chamber. Greg Little, et al., not happening.

3. Ace’s Hockey Podcast, wsg David Nasternak

starts at 50:48

Who are these guys? They get three points off Minnesota, get swept by Wisconsin, split with MSU? Corsi doesn’t work on State because they’re too selective with their shots. Hughes doing way too much. Hope is Top 20 bubble-ish, .500 is still a massive upgrade. Better but still first-year Beilein-ish.

4. Inside the Crooked Blue Line wsg Steve Lorenz of 247Sports

starts at 107:35

Barrett is a take; what position should he play? JaMarr Chase is Michigan’s best shot with a Louisiana guy for a long time—you never know when a new coach at an SEC school gets in the mix though. Recruiting Tremble hard. Every OL is a tackle—Petit-Frere is a battle, Patterson had a great senior film. Hufanga: got his last visit. Gotta get Reese back on campus. 2019 shaping up to be great.

I've been on the Peters bandwagon since he showed to be the best talent in the spring game and when it looked like Speight was nearing his ceiling last year. But I just don't see Peters having anything greater than a 20% chance starting over Shea if he transfers. Between Patterson, Peters, and McCaffrey this would be the most QB talent we've had on hand since Forcier/Robinson or Brady/Henson.

With Speight leaving I know Michigan could use an experienced back up. HOWEVA, it just feels like bringing in Shea is a desperate move. Really hope Peters has an awesome game and a huge bowl win and never looks back.

Whats desperate about it?  UM fan base may not be as familiar with all of this but transfers happen every year at both big and small programs, espeically at the qb position with only 1 guy really being able to play. I dont recall the "desperate" takes when OKorn and Ruddock came here? Its like theres a negative vibe added on because the kids actually good instead of "depth".  There's nothing sleezy about taking on guys who want to transfer out of there current situation for greater opportunity.  Bama and Auburn have both won national titles with transfer qb's.  Johnny Football and Baker Mayfield both transfered and had great success.  Nobody thinks back at JM as an Oregon transfer.  The list goes on and on and will only continue.

Coming out of HS I didn't see how or why he was the top QB and #4 player overall. He has a moderate arm and accuracy. He rarely delivers the ball from a strong stance and has a weak motion. It's fine but not "top QB" good. That said, he throws a gorgeous deep ball. Very Chris Leak in that regard. Yet, he's mobile and that's what we need more than anything right now. You can't win big without a QB that can extend plays these days. You can't have a bad OL and a QB that can't move. Shea has solid awareness of the rush and can run when needed. I wouldn't put him as a guarantee to win the job over Peters as long as Peters can take the team over. I absolutely get what Harbaugh meant when he said Peters needs to be more vocal. He wants a confident leader at QB that borders on cocky. Every HC should want that. You can't be a timid/quiet QB. The team feeds on its QB.

Just thought I was tripping so went back and check Forcier's stats. Lol you guys definitely have a crazy bias against Patterson. The stats aren't even comparable, and Shea had to play against LSU, Alabama and Auburn every year. Those defenses are among the top in the league. Patterson literally had superior stats in EVERY category compared to Peters, with the exception of interceptions...but I'm willing to accept that in exchange for 300 yd/ 2 TD passing games. Better than throwing for 50yd/1 TD game managing. Literally better YPA, yards, pass rating, completion percentage, better down field accuracy, better everything. And this is Shea playing against some of the best in the NCAA, lol Peters had decent numbers against GARBAGE football teams.

Sam Webb would bet only on 2 of the 3 Ole Miss guys ending up at UM. That is what I guess he said this morning. I haven't listened to it yet so I don't know the full context of his statement.

Harbaugh will start the best guy for the job period. But more good competition for the spot only raises the bar for all the QB’s. If Peters beats out Patterson or vice versa, then we know the team is in good shape. Another thing to keep in mind is that Harbaugh wants this and is pursuing it. I trust his judgement. It’s just fun looking at film of Patterson and knowing that this is the “minimum” we can expect for next season. We’re gonna be deadly next year! Go Blue!!
