Exit Alex Malzone

Submitted by jbibiza on

No surprise but now official.

Wish he had gotten a chance to play but I guess the coaches did not see what he had displayed in HS.

The coaches did not see what he displayed in high school. They saw him daily in college football practices and realized he isn't a B1G level QB.

and impressive measurables, and its not unheard of for some NFL team to draft, sign as FA a/o invite a QB to camp...same w/RB's, like used cars, 'low miles' are a positive

Malzone will be getting his UM degree, so why not chase the dream of: a) actually 'playing' college f-ball, b) seeing if there's a possibility of playing at the next level

wish him well

Again I'd be surprised if harbaugh doesn't get a grad transfer. Not saying he would start but to give experience so Milton and Doyle don't burn a red shirt if something were to happen. Cuz peters has what 4 or 5 games of experience then nothing

I don’t know if he will or won’t, but haven’t we been told over and over by some posters in here that other programs do well, and even win championships with young QB’s? Well, here we go: RS Soph starter (likely), RS Freshman 2nd string, and true Freshman 3rd (?). To me, adding a 5th year guy muddies the waters needlessly — which is why I’m actually pleased that WS decided to leave. Let’s just get on with the developmental process with the talented QB’s we already have on the roster. If other programs can do it, why not Michigan? If a grad transfer came in and won the job, do you think that gives Peters a good feeling about his place at Michigan? Not to mention what that will do to his (and DM’s) developmental process. Rudock was taken out of dire necessity. We’ll have 3rd and 2nd year QB’s returning, and a couple of top recruits (at least one of whom is an EE). The schedule looks friendlier in 2019, wouldn’t it be nice to have a 2nd year (possibly 4th year) starter rather than a guy who sat al year behind a grad transfer?

Imagine how this season could have played out if we had a starter better than Speight and Speight came in rather than O’Korn after that starter went down. Losing Speight hurts regardless of how any of us thinks about his talents. But I don’t blame him for not wanting to play second fiddle all year.

Not to be flippant, but meh. Yeah sure, it would have been a nice luxury to have an experienced multi-year starter backing up our top flight young stud QB — kinda like Major Applewhite to Chris Simms. But, to me, WS touched on it in his exit interview — reps. Yes, competition is nice but whomever wins the starting spot needs those reps to develop. Maybe more importantly, I’d rather have DM (likely) getting those 2nd string reps, not WS. We NEED to develop these QB’s and every rep that goes to a 5th year guy who we want as a backup is a waste, IMO.

What are you talking about idiot? Dantonio is going to go 4 for 5 on developing pro QB's. Expect Lewerke to take a massive leap next year We are sat here hoping Peters pans put because he was ok in 3 games he played in. Michigan has never since the the single wing days rolled out a worse QB than what Harbaugh rolled out with Okorn and i think Harbaugh is a helluva coach. Still the proof is in the pudding. Michigan has been the death of some promising michigan QB talents. Why dont you meet me in ann arbor next year and tell me what clock im on?

and has luck and ruddock to show for it so far, maybe a third one out there.  and he's going to almost certainly put a couple more in the NFL in the next few years.  i'll take his record vs.mork on that issue all day long and twice on sundays.
