OTish: Spielman class action suit may be expanded.

Submitted by 74polSKA on

On Tuesday, Chris Spielman's attorneys asked the federal judge to expand his claim against Ohio State to include 89 universities with IMG and Nike contracts. This would include many big name programs, including U of M. What do the MGoLawyers think? Does this lawsuit have legs? This was discussed in July when the original case was filed, but this adds a pretty significant dimension to the lawsuit.

I know nothing about IMG other than their HS sports factory in Florida. Here is a list of their properties according to their website:

Living in Bursley.  She was accepted to a few other good schools, but Michigan was the best of the bunch.

She's been having a hard time adjusting to life away from home (even though we're less than an hour away) so I'm glad she stayed close.  She comes home most weekends and she's talking about commuting next year instead of living on campus.

She's really nothing like her mother and me.  She doesn't drink or smoke weed.  Ever.

I think she just misses being at home.  Spending time with her little brother, lying on the couch all day, stuff like that.  She loves Ann Arbor, but the transition away from the comforts of home has been tough for her.

Both of my daughters left home for school and were back after a semester. They also have (much) younger brothers at home and I think that was the hardest part for them. My older son headed to Madison and is loving the freedom. Each is different and they will find their best path eventually.

Now one daughter is at grad school in Iowa and the other is on a grad school visit 1000 miles away at Alabama today. #humbelbrag?

The one visiting Alabama is killing me. She is raised in Wisconsin but I taught her right and she roots for the Maize and Blue. I'm not afraid she will turn to the dark side, but she is my sports buddy and having her leave will be harder on dad than anyone else.

I wouldn't disown my child if they wen to MSU or OSU, but I woudln't pay for it. And they know it.

If for some reason they can't get into Michigan, and they have to go somewhere else, there are a 1000 other schools they can go to that I will pay for. But not MSU and not OSU.

It's generally referred to as "lurching" and is outlawed in most tournaments (as well as most home play), We ban it whenever we play.

Essentially you take the NT and at snap make a slight move downward then dive at the QB. You will get a sack. And you can do it repeatedly. Usually helps to use a good/fast NT like Jerry Ball or Bob Nelson. You can also do it with the DEs, but in my opinion that's a little more difficult.

For example:

If you google "Tecmo Bowl Lurching" you can read all about it!

Every student signs away image rights when they accept admission to many universities.  This covers pictures the University puts on its website, promotional materials, and ... When ESPN comes to town and wants to show the big footbaw game.

But as many above have pointed out, if any old student wants to sell his/her image they can.  I think athletes can get permission to do it too...Jeremey Bloom rings a bell http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/30/sports/college-football-olympian-sues… as long as they aren't making money for being good at their scholarship-earning sport.  But that is an odd edge case.
