This thread prompted me to go back and look at the Higdon highlights from the past two games. Hart and Higdon have some similarity in their running style. Hart looks a bit stronger but Higdon faster. They both run with anger and fall fall forward when being tackled.

Mike Hart, next RB coach at UM. I can't tell enough to know if Jay Harbaugh is a good coach, but I trust that he has those genes and that knowledge in him. But we know he isn't a RB coach by trade; he's a multi-functional coach. I'd love to see Hart back here soon.

Fitz was a really solid back, and at the moment I would still take him over Higdon, though its getting closer and closer as you can see Higdon piece it all together. Let’s not forget what these people are running behind tho...who did Fitz have blocking for him? Higdon? Ok, now think of who Mike Hart followed every game first snap when we ran off tackle...some guy named Jake Long

I thought Karan had called MSU "Little Brother."

Looking at that shot of Hart leaping into the end zone over ND, I'm reminded of all the angst about "piping" on the jerseys. If only we'd known what lay in the future...

Higdon missed some cutback lanes early on, but has made the right cut much more often lately.  That's what you'd expect from a first-year starter if he's receiving competent coaching - he should get better as the year goes on.

As for pass protection, I put that much more on the OL.  Most backs are just so-so in pass blocking, for the straightforward reason that they're a lot smaller than the guys they have to block.  Our problem was that our OL was such a turnstile that our backs were having to be superstar pass protectors to keep our QB clean, and that was asking too much.
