OT: Eminems back?
OK is Eminem officially back or what? His guest verses on "Forever" and BoBs "Airplanes pt 2" are clearly the best verse on the song (even though Drake sucks) and his new freestyle "Despicable" is crazy.
We all know his last couple of albums before "Relapse" werent Eminem at his best but with Relapse, his latest freestyles and guest appearances...is it safe to say that Eminem is back?

aside from what you mentioned is he was also on Drop the World and his only stage show last year was at Voodoo in New Orleans.
also i don't think Drake's that bad. After Stephon Marbury had his meltdown and kept playing Drake on his computer during his webcam sessions, I like the guy. Drake that is.
verse on "drop the world on em" is sick and the new BOB song with him is WOW just wow
"Imagine if marshall never picked up a pen imagine........... he is so good just gives me chills
I keed I keed
There's supposed to be a follow up to Relapse coming out soon, but on another note, where the fuck is Detox?! That shit has been "coming soon" for the better half of a decade. Come on Dre, the game needs you. I'm tired of beats that sound like they were made on the Yamaha PS-130 I got for Christmas in '88.
April 28th, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
Even after he came out with relapse: refill, he had planned on making a sequel. Those plans have been scrapped now though. He is still coming out with another album I think, just not a direct sequel.
Also, yeah, Dre needs to put out some music. He was supposed to put out a first single a couple weeks ago, but like everything he does it was delayed, so who knows. Maybe it's never coming out.
April 28th, 2010 at 10:08 AM ^
It was rumored the first single is suppsoed to come out before THIS month is over. It's called 'under pressure' with Jay-Z. 'Detox' will be out this year, at least, thats what Dre said a little while back.
The new Eminem album is gonna be called "Recovery". I've given up on "Detox". I mean I know he wants the best beats to himself but if he made 1 beat a year he would of dropped a 10 song album like last year.
Happy to see Em is back once again.
Rico, Drake sucks??? Not too sure about that...
In my opinion...yes. He shows no lyrical talent. He uses auto tune and just talks. Eminem on the other hand is an expert, top of the class student.
No you just don't like him because he's getting all the hype. He's good. Not great, but good.
April 28th, 2010 at 11:02 AM ^
That has nothing to do with it. I dont like him because he sucks. He uses no emotion or lyrical talent, just his handy auto-tune software. I'm a big fan of Jay Z, he's made 1000x more money off of Hip Hop than Drake. Eminem, Nas, etc...fans of them too and they have more long term hype than your boy Drizzy. I just dont like Drake because he's using up the radio space with shitty music and lack of talent.
See? I said he's good, not great and all of a sudden he's "my boy"? It sounds like you just listen to his radio tracks, which are designed to fit current trends in order to sell records, and then label him as talentless or whatever. Not surprisingly, you start naming non-mainstream rappers so that we all know you really like rap music and that you know what you're talking about.
Don't talk to me about Jay-Z btw, I am well aware.
Also, before anyone negs me, take a listen to the So Far Gone ("Say What's Real", "Lust For Life", "Successful") mixtape. I'm not even a big fan of his, he's just being sold short for sure.
April 28th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
Wale & J.Cole are both mainstream style rappers whose verses are way better than Drake's. Drake is only popular because he was on a kid's TV show and because he raps with Weezy, who is also nothing special. For the most part making money in the rap game is all about who you know and who you rap with.
I supposed Drake isn't terrible but it's a crime for him to be as popular as he is when their are so many better lyricists that are struggling to get by.
Finally in response to OP:
Eminem never went anywhere, dude. You don't just rap like that and then one day just forget how to do it. Encore is a very under-rated Em album. He really only took a few years off, and supposedly that was because we were going to see Relapse as a double disc - which I'm still waiting for.

"I supposed Drake isn't terrible but it's a crime for him to be as popular as he is when their are so many better lyricists that are struggling to get by."
I'm assuming you've followed rap for a while. When has it not been this way? Just saying.

94 until about 99 or 2000 were considered the golden years of Hip Hop. There were Hip Hop classics being released one after another that received major radio play and album sales. back then people would rather listen to lyricism, story telling abilities, and concepts. There are still plenty of people who do but they are just in the minority now. Radio play since then has catered to the Soulja Boy, Drake, Lil Wayne, etc type of shit.
In that era i stated, classics such as.....were released.
Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt
Notorious BIG - Ready to Die and Life After Death
2Pac - All Eyez On Me
Big Pun - Capital Punishment
Nas - Illmatic and It Was Written
Fugees
Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers and Wu Tang Forever
Gangstarr - Moment of Truth
And those are just some of the few. Now please tell me with a straight face that Drake, Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy or anyone is even close to the talent of those guys? Eminem and Joell Ortiz are probably the only artists who are on the radio that can touch these guys.

I really can't stand his newer stuff, but if you check out his mixtapes there is some brilliant work in there. Specifically check out "the Dedication" 1,2 and 3 are all pretty great.
April 28th, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
He was the shit with the Hot Boyz.
April 28th, 2010 at 11:48 AM ^
if you're talking about mainstream music. As for post 90s, if you can dig in deeper(toward the underground music type), you can find good music like Del Tha Funkee Homosapien(though his earlier stuff was better and Deltron 3030 was his best effort to date), J-Dilla(RIP), Cunninlyguists, The Coup, etc.
I pretty much stop listening to the current hip hop because it has gotten so bad that you don't need to be a talented rapper to succeed. The music corporation industry is to blame for trying to put out shitty music because people liked it. They only cared about money(which is true because they're a business), not how good of an rapper you are. Autotune is the worst thing to ever come out for the hip-hop industry.
April 28th, 2010 at 11:59 AM ^
That would be about 88-93. Everything being put out was new and innovative. Technology had improved from the early days while at the same time copyright laws and royalties were not around or enforced like the became in the mid 90s. Sampling was to the point DJs were actually featured in songs. You had the DJing, story telling, politics, battles/fueds, crossover of musical styles, and most videos weren't giant cliches.
Acts from 88-93:
Public Enemy
Eric B & Rakim
NWA
Big Daddy Kane
EPMD & Hit Squad
LL Cool J
Cypress Hill
Beasties
Jungle Bros
Getto Boys
3rd Bass
There's some cross over like Gang Starr, early 2Pac, etc. It's subjective but that era isn't considered the Golden Era by most. Maybe it's a matter of age because I've heard kids refer to 90s rap as "old school"
Is old school. Tupac was kind of on the borderline, maybe his earliest stuff (Strictly 4my, etc..)
Who said anything about whether talent is relevant to selling records? Why do you twist my argument? I know what a classic rap album is.
Wanna fuck with Shady....WHY? Cause Shady....will fuckin kill you
-Will always love Em, but I'm more pumped about Bone's new album, jesus Bizzy and Flesh are back......even though Flesh is already back in jail because he's an idiot
Shady's getting ready for the halftime show at the ND night game next year.

What do you all think of the B.o.B. cd? I <del>picked it up</del> torrented it yesterday...pretty fantastic. The first single, <i>Nothin' On You</i> is pretty overplayed, but I really enjoyed the disc as a whole.
Also, didn't realize there were so many rap/hip-hop fans on the board...
P.S. Does anyone (i.e. Geaux_Blue) know how to make HTML tags work? Mine fail, obviously. It says that HTML should work if you click on "Input format".

if you haven't already, i suggest you find his latest mixtape which is titled "May 25th"
I think I will. Thanks for the tip.

I've heard a few songs by BoB so far. Obviously the "Airplanes pt 2" w/ Eminem is nice but besides that I have mixed opinions.
You know who I'm really waiting for to drop an album? Lupe Fiasco!
Lupe's definitely the man. Lasers is supposed to be out sometime this spring/summer I think...

Too many terrible beats and way too much singing of his own hooks has taken a toll. At his best he might be the best.
